Today we'll be reviewing part number BWBMHD30012. This is the B&W Heavy-Duty Ball Mount with a 3 inch rise or a 4 inch drop, it's rated at 16,000 pounds. It's ball mount is going to let you hook up your trailer to your tow vehicle. The shank will slide into your vehicle's hitch receiver and the ball platform is going to provide a good mounting point for your hitch ball which is sold separately. This is made from a sturdy steel construction. You can see here at the rear that we have a solid shank, there's hollow shank or cut out back here. This is a solid sturdy steel piece. It is corrosion resistant and it's coated in a high gloss black powder coated finish. Now both the drop and the rise position are available to ensure level towing and a hitch pin and clip or a hitch lock is require and sold separately.

This ball mount is made in the USA and is designed to fit a 2 inch by 2 inch trailer hitch receiver. It has a gross towing weight of 16,000 pounds with a max towing weight of 16,000. Now I'm going to measure from the center of our hitch pin hole to the center of the ball hole and we're going to get a measurement of 9 and 5/8 of an inch. Now this ball mount provides a rise of 3 inches and a drop of 4 inches. We'll go ahead and show that.
The drop is measured from the inside top edge of the receiver tube, it's also equivalent to the hut of the shank to the top of the ball platform. I'll place the ruler on here and if you can picture an imaginary line coming off the top of the shank, it's going to hit at about the 4 inch mark, giving us the 4 inch drop. Now we rotate this to the rise position and we'll take that same measurement from the shank to the top of the ball platform and we're going to get a rise of about 3 inches. Our shank from the end to the top edge has a measurement of 6 inches. This ball mount does have an inch and a quarter ball hole diameter. In selecting your ball accessories you want to make sure that it doesn't exceed that measurement and again, this has a gross towing weight of 16,000 pounds.
I'll go ahead and slide it into the receiver hitch just to show you how to install. All you need to do is slide the shank of your ball mount into the opening of the hitch, line up your pin holes and then insert your pin and clip. Just like that, you're all loaded up and you're set to go. Now to flip it over to the rise position, you'd remove the pin and clip, flip it over and reinsert it and install it just the way I showed you in the drop position. Was needing a 7-8 inch ride for my camper that could sustain a GVW of at least 5000 lbs. Let me say, it’s a hard to find item. Thankfully I called Etraer and with some research, found me the perfect ball mount. It’s heavy duty for a reasonable price.
I had to flip this upside down and put a hitch ball on this to get it to work with my Dodge Journey and my camper. It's held up without issue for a half-dozen camper pulls. I wish the paint hadn't already started flaking off at the receiver end, but that's to be expected when you connect metal to metal. The other parts of this haven't started flaking yet after a year so hopefully it continues to hold up.

This 16,000 lb hitch and 30,000 lb ball keep me legal in the weigh stations. Pulling 800 mile runs through the mountains safe and sound.

ball mount had a nice coating on it before shipping. it was put loose in the huge receiver box. bouncing around loose it punched a few holes in the box and got a number of chips from hitting the receiver. it made the same damage to the receiver as well.
this is too bad. I went with etrailer due to great selection and install info. people shipping just don't seem to care about the product. it would have taken veary little to package this so it would not damage other items, but no effort was made to ensure shipping would not cause damage.
Just what I needed.
This is a great drop hitch for my lfted truck, very great experience dealing with Etrailer in all aspects of my order, will definitely order everything I can from them in the future.
