Video Transcript for Curt Hitch Ball - Trailer Hitch Ball - A-6 Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at Part Number A-6, this is the CURT two and five-sixteenth inch trailer hitch ball. A few measurements to go over with you real quick. This hitch ball is going to give us a shank diameter of an inch and a quarter, it's going to give us a shank length measuring from the bottom of the platform to the end of the threads of two and five-eighths of an inch. This is designed to fit draw bar thicknesses of a half inch to one inch thick. The hitch ball is going to offer a capacity of ten thousand pounds. It's made from a solid steel construction with a nice chrome finish on it, so it is going to stand up really well against rusting and corrosion. Here on the sides of the platform, it's going to have the flats, these are just your wench flats, makes for an easier installation, you can get your wrench around there for a nice, adequate grip.

Really going to come in handy when you need to torque this down. The hitch ball will need to be torqued to specifications listed by the manufacturer. You can find all that information on the tag that's going to come attached to the trailer hitch ball. You just want to make sure that you remove this tag before your installation. Really simple installation though. The hitch ball is going to go straight through that opening on your ball mount.

You're going to place on the lock washer as well as the nut, and then you're going to get everything tightened down, and again once you get it hand tight, or once you get it tight with a wrench, you will need to go ahead and torque it down to the specifications listed by the manufacturer. It looks like for this particular mount, it says to tighten the trailer ball to four hundred and fifty foot pounds of torque. That's going to do it for our review of Part Number A-6, this is the CURT two and five-sixteenth inch trailer hitch ball. .

  • Hitch Installation Bolt Torque Ratings on Hitch for 2005 Chevy Express
We currently offer 10 different receiver hitches for the 2005 Chevy Express, with towing capacities ranging from 3500 to 12,000 lbs. The torque rating of the installation bolts will depend on the particular hitch being installed, the rating will vary according to the weight capacity of the hitch. I have provided a link below to the hitches offered for that vehicle. Clicking on the part number of each hitch will redirect you to its product description page. Each product description page...

  • Trailer Hitch Ball Wrench Size and Torque Rating for 1-1/4 Inch Hitch Ball Shank Size
You can have a 2-5/16 inch hitch ball on either a 1 inch or 1-1/4 inch shank. The nut on a hitch ball with a 1-1/4 inch shank takes a wrench with a 1-7/8 inch socket. A hitch ball with a 1 inch shank will take a wrench with a 1-1/2 inch socket. You will need to torque all hitch balls with a 1-1/4 inch shank, like 2-51/6 inch hitch ball # A-6, down to 450 ft/lbs. I am including a link to some helpful trailer hitch ball information, if needed.

With there being 3 standard size balls used to tow a trailer, you can simply measure for 2 of them Those being a 2 inch coupler that attaches to something like the Curt 2" Hitch Ball - 1-1/4" Diameter x 2-5/8" Long Shank # A-90, or a 2-5/16 inch one that will attach to the 2-5/16" Hitch Ball - 1-1/4" Diameter x 2-5/8" Long Shank # A-6. • Will Curt Hitch Ball # A-6 Work with a Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution System # BXW0751
The hitch balls we recommend for this Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution System, part # BXW0751, have a shank length of either 2-3/4-inches (part # 19286 with a 2-5/16-inch ball size) or 2-5/8-inch (part # A-90, with a 2-inch ball size). The ball you ordered, part # A-6, also has a 2-5/8-inch long shank, so it should work with your Blue Ox SwayPro.

The Draw-Tite Ball Mount for 2" Hitch - 7" Rise, 8" Drop - 9-1/2" Long - 12,000 lbs # 4283 is the closest we have to what you are looking for in a fixed mount. It has an 8 inch drop, 12K capacity, 1-1/4 inch hitch ball hole diameter, and 7/8 inch thick mount. The smaller diameter holes and thinner mount will leave you with only a 5K capacity. Yes, the Reese Steadi-Flex weight distribution system part # RP66559 that you referenced takes a hitch ball with a 1-1/4 inch diameter shank that is 2-5/8 inches long just like the part # A-6 so it would work well. Also this has the same 10k capacity as the Steadi-Flex.

  • Best Way to Reduce Suspension Sag When Towing a Trailer
We have the perfect product for you, but it's not a suspension enhancement system as they are more ideal for vehicles that are carrying weight in the cargo area of the vehicle. For a towing situation a weight distribution system would be much better as it actually distributes the tongue weight of the trailer up to the front axle of the tow vehicle which will help with braking and handling. The best way to pick out a weight distribution system is to base it off of the loaded tongue weight...

  • Recommended Curt Weight Distribution System for Jayco Jay Feather Trailer
The Curt TruTrack Weight Distribution System w/ Sway Control - Trunnion - 8,000 lbs GTW, 800 lbs TW # C17499 will allow a rise of up to 6-1/2 inches so it will work well for you. The shank will need to be inverted for the rise position and you will put the hardware in the 3rd and 5th holes from the top when inverted. You will need to torque the hitch ball and the shank to the manufacturer specs, so if you don't have the ability to do that on your own, I recommend going to a local mechanic...

  • Is a Weight Distribution System or Sway Control Needed for 3,500lb Trailer with Chevy Silverado 3500
Considering the towing capacity of your Chevrolet Silverado 3500 and the relatively light 3,500 pound Casita Trailer, you most likely will not need a weight distribution system or sway control. I recommend simply going on a few test drives with your trailer to see how everything handles. If after a few trips, you feel like the control and stability of the ride can be improved upon, a weight distribution system might be a good idea. If you do end up looking for a weight distribution system,...

  • Recommended Weight Distribution Setup for a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee Towing a Coachman Viking
To choose a weight distribution system you will need to go by the total tongue weight of the set up. Based on your Coachman Viking trailer gross weight of 3,538 pounds and tongue weight on your trailer could be as much as 353-531 pounds (10-15 percent tongue weight), the weight distribution setup I recommend...

  • Will the Curt Heavy Duty Forged Ball Mount Part # C45340 Fit a 2012 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
The Curt Heavy Duty Forged Ball Mount part # C45340 that you referenced has a 2,550 lb tongue weight (TW) and 17,000 lb gross trailer weight (GTW) rating. The tongue weight of a trailer is typically between 10-15% of its gross trailer weight so this ball mount would be plenty for your trailer. In order to add a hitch ball you are going to want to use part # A-90 for 2" or part # A-6 for 2-5/16". Please keep in mind that this ball mount has a 1" rise and 2" drop. We do! My personal favorite weight distribution (WD) system is the Reese Strait-Line for which part # RP66082 with the 200 lbs - 600 lbs tongue weight range is the same as the WD system you were looking at. The Strait-Line uses dual cams for the sway control which gives you the best performance on the market and allows you to back up.
