My buddy has a trailer with the 2 5/16 ball will my 2 inch ball on my truck work.

You will need to get a 2-5/16" trailer ball for the 2-5/16" coupler on the other trailer. You can replace the ball on your current ball mount or get a new ball mount with the ball. Here are some options listed below.
