Radial Tires vs. Bias Tires

Radial tire vs bias tire graphic

Radial ply tires are designed for trailers that are towed on the highway. The cords on a radial tire are positioned at a 90-degree angle to the direction of travel so that they lay across the width of the tire from wheel lip to wheel lip. This construction prevents the cords from rubbing against one another when the tire flexes, unlike the cords on a bias ply tire. As a result, radial tires have less rolling resistance and heat buildup, which leads to a longer tread life and improved steering at higher speeds.

Very easy to install, unlike some trailer tires. Good quality and has held up great. Got rid of any sway that it has.

by:

Great tire. It came really fast. They keep u informed through the whole process so u kno where ur product is at. I have yet to mount them but I think they will do great.

by:

Great tires! Here they are mounted and doing work carrying the Honda Challenge S2000 Race Car.

by:

They were packaged well, took them to the local tire store that remarked on the quality 8 ply :) . Mounted and left with a smile. This is my 3rd order from ETrailer. for 3 different vehicles. Can I call 2 trailers and a hitch that?
Great service, stuff, packaging..... Bill T.

by:

I expected the tire to be mounted to the rim. Had I known it wouldn’t be, I would have just take the rim to the local tire shop and bought a tire there

by:

Very economical choice to step up to a load range D tire.
I had no luck locally finding a decent tire under $100ea so on a whim I checked etrailer. I bought (7) with free shipping and the tire quality looks good.
I knocked off one star because dealing with the staples in the shipping boxes is a PITA and must be removed to recycle.

Still Rolling Strong! Better value than I could find locally.

by:

Looks to be a good quality tire. I just received them yesterday and had them mounted. Time will tell more about the quality. Fast shipping, well packaged and great service from Etrailer. Thanks!

These have worn great and we have put almost 20k miles on this trailer this year with almost no noticeable wear and zero air loss

by:

Bought this as a spare tire for a 16ft. car trailer. Won't know about tread life cause it is for spare use only. Seems like good quality 8 ply and beads sealed with a nice pop on new Vesper rim easily. Tire says 2200lbs. load for single axle on @ 65 psi and that's what I needed.

by:

Product was exactly what I wanted. The shipping information page lacked a second line to add the lot number. So I entered the number next to the address. The system would not accept this format and removed the lot number. I assumed UPS would deliver to our main post office with the missing lot number. Using the UPS tracking link, I found that it was waiting locally on additional address info. However etrailer tracking history did not state this request. I received the tire late Friday night. I took the tire to the site etrailer recommended in my area. It was 28 miles away. When I checked with the front desk, they stated we do not have mechanics on Saturday. Leave the tire and come back on Monday. So now I will need travel another 56 miles to pick up the tire.

by:

Tires and wheels came FAST! I was surprised!

Got these mounted/balanced this weekend and installed them myself yesterday, as I had to go over all the bearings, repack with fresh grease, check the hubs, etc. They look sharp! The real test will be how they do on the road going down to Mexico later this month. They seem like a good solid load range D tire, but will report back after I get some miles on them and see how they hold up.

Purchased the galvanized wheels from etrailer as well. The tire shop that mounted/balanced cautioned me on one of the rims about a weld that was a bit iffy to them -- they checked them all as they were mounting. It didn't seem too bad to me, but I'm not a professional.

by:

Order process went perfect I was updated on order status tires arrived very quick 3 days

We have had no issues the tires are performing very well. They have over 2000 miles on them no uneven wear

by:

This will be put on an older rim to be used as the spare on my trailer. Looks like a great tire, and the price was reasonable. (Having a spare is almost priceless in of itself when you have a flat on your trailer while traveling !!)

by:

I bout the D rated load range tires. Was an easy decision for a little peace of mind while towing my single axle trailer.

by:

WORST experience ever! I purchased a set of tires/rims for my trailer that didn't fit so I purchased another set and returned the new set via UPS. eTrailer did not refund my money and they kept the returned tires/rims. My UPS receipt proves that both were delivered and signed for bur etrailer said that they never received the return and refusd to refund my money.

by:

Just received them and they appear to a good quality tire. I'll see how they perform once they are mounted, balanced and installed on the trailer.

by:

Kenda steel belted radial Karriers have been on trailers I have owned for several years. Even with a lot of abuse, I have never had a problem. In anticipation of a move 3000 miles east, I decided to replace the tires that came on my utility trailer. When I looked online for the brand that is on my trailer, all I found were pictures of blow outs, and torn up fenders. No wonder with how flimsy they are. My wife wanted to know why I was replacing new tires. I told her to push her fist into the take off tires, and then into the Karriers. She could almost push her fist through the takeoff, but could barely budge the Karriers. No more questions. These Kenda radial trailer tires are really good--I am even not going to put in the disclaimer "for the money". Mounted and balanced just fine. Took an ounce of weight to balance.

by:

I received exactly what I ordered very fast within 48 hours at a lower price then anywhere else. Thank You for great customer satisfaction

by:

Once a long time ago the Goodyear trailer tires were the best, today they are junk. The Load Star's are fantastic long wearing, don't seem to dry rot out. Have put over 12,000 miles on this set and will replace them with the same when they wear out.

by:

Fit rim perfectly was recommended during rim purchase. Thanks.

by:

Great product great price great service !!!!!!

by:

All four tires have performed well. Even ran over a few sketchy things at high speed without issue. Can't ask for much more than that!

by:

Great tires at a fair price delivered! All good!

  • Recommended Trailer Tire Size To Replace 6.00x15 Tire On Trailer
The closest trailer tire to the 6.00x15 tires you currently have is the Karrier ST205/75R15 Radial Trailer Tire - Load Range D # AM10245 which is 1.6" wider and 1.7" taller than your current tires. To make sure the # AM10245 will fit you will need to measure from the inside of the your current tires to the frame and from the top of the tire to the bottom of the fender on your trailer. As long as you have 2" between the inside of the tire and the frame and 4" between the top of the tire...

  • What PSI Is Correct For Trailer Tires
On all trailer tires, such as the Karrier ST205/75R15 Radial Trailer Tire - Load Range D # AM10245 you always want to inflate the tire to the maximum cold psi, which on this tire as well as yours, is 65 psi. Doing this will give you the best performance, allowing the tire to wear more slowly and give you optimum gas mileage. I have added a link to a help article on trailer tires that I also recommend checking out.

  • Axle Needed to Upgrade to 15 Inch Wheels on Homemade Utility Trailer
For a 15 inch wheel, you'll need a hub with a 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern. The hub you'd need wouldn't be compatible with your existing spindles, so your best bet would indeed be to go with a 3500 lb axle. To determine which axle you'll need, you'll need to know the hub face to hub face and center leaf spring seat to center leaf spring seat distance. I'll provide a diagram showing how to take each measurement. The off the shelf axle beams we offer have hub face to hub face dimensions...

  • Taller Tire Size Recommendation for Size 205/75-14 to Gain Inch of Ground Clearance
We have a taller tire size than your 205/75-14 that will fit your current wheel which is tire size 215/75-14 but you'd really only gain about a 1/4 inch of additional clearance so it would not be you ideal solution. What you'd really need is to go to the 15 inch trailer wheel tire size 225/75-15 as this will give you a little over an inch of additional ground clearance. The closest setup we'd have is the part # AM32468 which comes with this tire size and a galvanized spoke wheel.

  • Replacement Single Axle Trailer Tires ST205/75D15 and Prolonging Life of Tires
A trailer tire with the size of ST205/75D, the D indicates that the tire is a bias ply tire. A bias ply tire is constructed so that the cords that run across the tire are at a 32 degree angle to the direction of travel, hence the D stands for diagonal. On a radial tire the cords will run at a 90 degree angle to the direction of travel. For use on your single axle utility trailer I recommend using a radial tire, they run cooler and provide a smother ride. The typical application for bias...
