Radial Tires vs. Bias Tires

Radial tire vs bias tire graphic

Radial ply tires are designed for trailers that are towed on the highway. The cords on a radial tire are positioned at a 90-degree angle to the direction of travel so that they lay across the width of the tire from wheel lip to wheel lip. This construction prevents the cords from rubbing against one another when the tire flexes, unlike the cords on a bias ply tire. As a result, radial tires have less rolling resistance and heat buildup, which leads to a longer tread life and improved steering at higher speeds.

I actually bought 3 of theses and wheels for an overlanding trailer I built from a CE Smith boat trailer and other parts I bought from etrailer. I am happy with these tires and wheels as well as the trailer and other parts.

by:

I have about 6200 miles on them with no issues. Most of the miles are going from WI to FL twice. They are wearing even and look like 3/4 tread left. They are installed on 2021 Coachmen 192RBS.

by:

There are so many trailer parts suppliers out there that are completely unreliable or worse. I had a very good experience with etrailer all the way from helping me find the correct wheels to the fast delivery. If I need something now I start here. Thank you.

by:

These tires came stock with my boat and lasted over 6 years of guiding with a lot of road miles.. found them on etrailer and had them on my doorstep within 3 days of ordering. Great service!

by:

I purchased 2 tires and a tire and a rim for my spare. They look great and the fit was perfect. If I need tires again, I will be ordering them from etrailer.

by:

If you Google “best trailer tires” you’ll get 10 different opinions. I decided to go with etrailer because customer service is over the top and I’ve had very positive results with them in the past. Peyton was very knowledgeable and helpful. Time will tell how good my new tires are but the purchase process was smooth. Delivered in 4 days.

by:

From the time I placed my order I was pleased with the way I was kept up to date. It was easy to track the order and it even arrived ahead of schedule. Thanks for that part of the process.

by:

Arrived fast and tires were manufactured recently. AOK

by:

bash shipping box and tire in excellent condition!

I bought a used 2013 Keystone Hideout from a private party. The rv didn't have a spare tire. I researched part numbers for the same Karrier tire and Dexter wheel that are on the camper. Search results had etrailer at the top of the list of responses. Prices for these pieces were competitive with other websites. Free shipping over 99 bucks sealed the deal. Just before making the order I noticed that two axle grease cap covers had cracks in them. I searched the ALKO/Hayes part numbers and etrailer was the only site ( other than the mfg ) to list/cross ref the covers AND they were in stock for a low price. I made the order on Tuesday and they arrived Friday which is real good for free shipping from Missouti to N.E. Pa ! Parts arrived securely packaged and in perfect shape. I am very satisfied with this order.

by:

Doing a good job at max weight capacity!

by:

Great price, fast shipping

by:

Quick response to order and timely delivery. Excellent update on delivery status.

by:

Long lasting tire, great price and quick delivery.

by:

I received product ordered in timely manner. Also tire was purchased at fair price. Happy customer!

by:

Great service !

by:

Looks good and the date code is recent,
Time will tell how good a tire it is. Shipped in avery sturdy cardboard box.

by:

I bought these Karrier tires to replace the original Karrier tires that had worn out /failed (broken belt, uneven tread wear) on my 24’ RV. They have run over 8000 miles now and are still looking good. It is important to get the wheels balanced when new tires are installed.
It took a few weeks to get these as they were back ordered in 2021.

by:

etrailer had everything I needed in stock. I ordered and they were shipped very quickly. Great job etrailer. It is not the first time I have done business with your company. I was equally pleased in the past. Loyal Customer!

by:

Exactly as ordered with super fast ship ping!!

by:

It was very easy to order from etrailer. Product arrived quickly. Have since made three trips with the new tires and they ride nicely.

by:

TIRE CAME FAST AND GREAT QUALITY

by:

I received my tires, Karrier ST205/75R14 Radial Trailer Tire - Load Range C, within a few days if ordering. Very happy with that. They were well packaged, each tire in it's own box. They are mounted and my trailer is ready to go. I gave this 4 stars, because I haven't used them yet. Hopefully they'll be 5 star tires once I start using them.

by:

This is my second purchase from etrailer and could not be happier with their products and shipping. I have purchased Karrier Loas Star ST205/75R14 trailer tires. They have proven to be wearing well and are very smooth. All the other trailer tire brands that I have used would delaminate and not hold up.

etrailer will always get my business!

  • Replacement Tires For a Ranger Trail Tandem Axle Trailer With 205/75-14 Tires
Based on you confirming that the Karrier ST205/75R14 Radial Trailer Tire # AM10234 matches the tire size that you have these should be the correct tires that you need. There are different load ratings available for the 205/75-15 tire size that you need. Also the load rating is per tire so you will be able to multiply that by 4 for the total trailer GVWR. If you are unsure there should be a trailer ID sticker on your Ranger Trail trailer that will show you the weight ratings required for...

It doesn't look like we offer any mounted wheel and tire assemblies with the Karrier ST205/75R14 Radial Trailer Tire part # AM10234 and Dexstar Steel Mini Mod Trailer Wheel part # AM20363. Therefore, if you want these two exact assemblies you'll need to take them into a tire shop for mounting. That said, we do have a similar assemblies in the Westlake ST205/75R14 Radial Trailer Tire with 14" Silver Mod Wheel part # 274-000053.

  • Should I replace My Castle Rock ST ST205/75R14 Tires
This type of question is always challenging due to the amount of varying opinions, different experiences, and lack of controlled environment with set standards. Please keep in mind that Castle Rock is an economy trailer tire so they will not perform at the same level of a Goodyear tire. However, feed back available to me was a statement of a 7,500 mile trip with great performance and no significant wear. But your 12,000 mile trip will be pushing the limit on most any economy tire currently...

  • Availability of Replacement Wheel for Demco Kar Kaddy 3 Tow Dolly
We can indeed offer you a spare wheel for your Demco Kar Kaddy 3. It is a chrome wheel rather than white. The part number is # DM11574. It is a 14 x 5-1/2 inch wheel with a 5 lug on 115mm bolt circle (which is the same asa 5 on 4-1/2"). I've confirmed with Demco that is indeed the correct replacement wheel. You'd want to use a ST205-75R-14 Load Range C tire like part # AM10234. The # AM31985 you referenced wouldn't work well for you. It's a 13 inch wheel, not a 14 and the offset would...

I don't have a way to provide the exact date code for any one set of tires that we ship but I can tell you that trailer tires are a top product for use and we sell a lot of them. This means that they don't sit on the shelf long in our warehouse once they leave the manufacturer, especially for common sizes like a 205/75-14. • What Does Ply Rating of 6R Mean
From what I could find it doesn't look like there is any kind of 6R ply rating so I would guess that the R either stands for "rating" or possibly radial tire like what you find with the Karrier # AM10234. I spoke with our residential tire expert who confirmed this and stated that he's never heard of a 6R ply rating (and he's been in the tire industry for many years). Just make sure that you don't exceed the psi, weight, or speed ratings of your tires to prolong their life. I have attached...

You will probably not need to get new wheels but there are no trailer tires that are 195/70R14; that is a passenger tire size and not something you want to use for your trailer. Tires that are 195/70R14 measure 24.7" in diameter and have a 7.7" width; the closest trailer tire size to that is ST205/75-14, which have a 26.1" diameter and 8.1" width. Thanks for being a customer! The cracks are caused by weather so if you want to prevent them in the future, use some tire covers while the trailer is not in use. • Can Tow Dolly with Radial 205/75-14 be Replaced with Bias Ply Tire
Yes you could replace your current tire size ST205/75-14 radial with a bias ply if you wanted to. For that we have the part # AM1ST86 which would work really well. Radials typically are preferred since they handle a little better and are more stable but they end up costing more as their drawback. If you wanted a similar radial that's priced close the part # AM10234 would be your best option.
