Bias Tires vs. Radial Tires

Bias vs. radial tire graphic

Bias ply tires are designed for off-road or agricultural applications. They are built with thick, durable nylon cords that are positioned at a 30- to 45-degree angle to the direction of travel. The layers alternate in a crisscross pattern, making the sidewalls stiffer so that the entire tire is able to flex easily. As a result, the tire provides a smooth ride and improved handling when trailering on uneven surfaces.

Excellent tires. The local tire store put them on the rims for me. They did not inflate the tires to the psi that is on the tires. Only about 35 psi . By the time we got 1/2 way to Minn. both tires were worn on the inside edges. I inflated both to the right psi and so far so good. I will be purchasing about her set from etrailer in the near future.

You guys are right on it! I always order trailer parts from you guys. The service is excellent and the shipping is fast. Ordered on Tuesday and had the tires on Thursday. Couldn't be happier!!

by:

The ordering system was flawless, and delivery was quick. What impressed me the most is that the tires came in a box. The last time I ordered tires else ware they came all banded together and were wicked out of shape.

I Picked out these tires because of the brand and the high-speed rating. The wear has been very good, and I am very satisfied with this product.

by:

Prompt shipping. I trust etrailer.com! Tires are exactly what I ordered and most importantly the inventory was fresh. These tires are not from old stale inventory. Thank you again etrailer. Dan

by:

I ordered Load Range E tires from another vendor for a lower price. When they arrived, they were labeled Load Range B! I decided not to waste any more time, ordered from y'all, they were delivered a day early and were what I ordered. No bait and switch! I'll never bother with any other vendor. You folks are the best.

by:

Dependable tires for heavy pontoon trailer. The two ordered replace one worn bald by a sticking brake caliper and another with a 2011 manufacturing date.
The old one was a spare, now have a newer 2018 spare. These little 10 ply tires can be good exercise to mount, but with a bead breaker, tire spoons and tire lube they were on the trailer in a couple of hours. These arrive in normal shape, and do not require a chuffer to seat the beads.

by:

Look like good quality tires, fit as ex pected

I don’t put on a lot of kms with the trailer but probably about 1500 km so far and they are hardly showing any signs of wear. I do find that they are a little bit rough when I first start to drive especially when it’s cold outside but they smooth out after 5 km or so, mind you, they are bias ply tires so this is to be expected.

@Richard I was just getting ready to say that that's normal for bias-ply tires, but you beat me to it! We're glad they're working well for you.

by:

The ordering process was very easy, and the tires made it here to Alaska in no time!! They were even kind enough to upgrade my shipping at no cost to me! Will definitely be ordering again!

by:

Tires look good with good tread pattern. They arrived as promised in a couple of days. I will have them installed on the boat trailer in the next couple of days. My current tires are loadstar and have held up quite well considering they are 15 years old.

Great service confirming the tire size over the phone and the tires are just what I needed at a great price. Fast shipping. They fit on my snowmobile trailer tire rims. Rated E 10 ply bias so I should get several years out of them. Thanks for your help.

by:

Bought these for a 27 ft pontoon trailer. I run 75mph on the interstate all the time and these tires hold up great.

by:

Bought these tires for a cross country trip from Ohio to Colorado. Made the 3500 trip with no issues. Sold the trailer after the trip so can't speculate longevity

by:

Somewhat hard to find tires for my pop-up trailer and these have very good load and speed rating.

by:

Well I'm not sure how long the 2 tires for my trailer took to arrive after I ordered, but it wasnt long. Had some rims from the local RV outfit that came with the range C or D. I had em mounted and balanced. Never come balanced from the local. So I wanted to see if it made a smoother pull on the pavement and I believe it did, in conjunction with a much better looking heavier duty tire with a different tread pattern as well.
I have a 7x14 custom utility trailer that's pretty heavy duty with a flipped 5' axle which puts me flush with the outer of the deck and the sidewalls. I'm hoping to get 3 of my trips out of these without any signs of needing replaced from wear and tear. Theres about 20 miles a trip on a rocky grated road that the C and Ds didnt handle too well after 2 or 3 of these treks. So that why 4 stars for now, but so far so good. If E-trailer will send me another review link in a year I will be happy to give a complete review then.

I feel like these are gona last much longer than anything in the past.. great tires and would recommend to a to anyone who needs a good heavy duty tire that gives piece of mind.

I ordered a pair of LOADSTAR K399 205/65 -10 Load Range E bias tires late on Friday evening and they arrived before noon the following Tuesday , a day quicker than expected. The tires arrived well packaged and in great shape. I haven't had a chance to have the tires mount yet, but I don't anticipate any problems at this point. Although it can be a challenge to locate a vendor that carries these size tires, they are exact OEM replacement tires to fit my Acme EZE-Tow car dolly. A job well done etrailer!

David

2/7/2019

I mounted them, with balance beads, and they have driven and worn wonderfully on my car dolly, both loaded and unloaded. I would definitely purchase them again and recommend them to all.

by:

I recently purchased a used pontoon that needed tires. After some research, I decided a 10 ply tire or load range E (LRE) would be best. Etrailer.com had the best price and they also offered free shipping on orders over $100. The tires look great and shipping was very fast. I will be getting all of my future trailer supplies from etrailer.com

by:

Great tire for my tow dolly. No issues, balance really well with balance beads, seem to be wearing good.

  • Speed Rating Of Kenda Loadstar 205/65-10 Bias Trailer and Wheel Combo
The Kenda Loadstar 205/65-10 Bias Trailer Tire w/ 10" Solid Center Wheel part # AM3H454 has a 87 mph speed rating. The tire without the wheel is Loadstar K399 Bias Trailer Tire - 205/65-10 part # AM1HP56. I have attached a video for your reference.

  • Will there be Any Problem Using a Load Range E Trailer Tire Instead of a Load Range D
The ride might feel a little more stiff with the higher capacity load range E tire. And you would want to make all of the tires the same load range or you could see uneven tire wear. Other than that there isn't really any issue with using an E instead of a D. The Higher load range E tire will likely require more air pressure. For example on a 206/65-10 load range D tire such as # AM1HP54 it will have a rating of 1,330 pounds at 70psi. But the load range E in the same size, # AM1HP56, is...

  • Suggestion to Stop 205/65-10 Load Range E Tires From Cracking
I can imagine it is getting quite aggravating to have to change your load range E 205/65-10 bias tires like the Loadstar K399 Bias Trailer Tire # AM1HP56, but as you said, these are bias tires, and that is the only type available for 10 inch tires. In regards to Kenda tires, if you are not familiar with them, the Kenda brand is recognized as being very high quality. Our customers who have them have rated them over 1,500 times (as of this writing) and given them a nearly 5-star rating,...

  • Trailer Tires to Replace 12.5x8x10 Tires on a Jayco Trailer
Tread wear on the inside of the tread indicates that either the trailer is overloaded or there is something off with the suspension. Make sure you are within the weight capacity of trailer and the tires. You can check the suspension for signs of excessive wear such as broken parts or egg-shaped mounting holes (which would cause abnormal travel and positioning of the suspension). Also, for any given tire size there are different load ranges available. The higher the load range letter in...

  • Replacement Tire Recommendation to Replace 20.5x8.0-10 Tires Load Range E
I did some checking and the 20.5x8-10 tire size that you referenced is the same as 205/65-10 so the Loadstar K399 Bias Trailer Tire # AM1HP52 should fit well, but may not have enough capacity. Since you have a load range E tire currently I would recommend you replace this tire with one with the same capacity. For that I would recommend the Loadstar K399 Trailer Tire # AM1HP56. This tire has a load range of E and should work well for you. I attached a couple FAQ articles on trailer tires...

  • 205/65-10 Load Range E Tire for Highway Use
The Kenda # AM1HP56 tire you'd looked at is a bias-ply. Radial tires run more smoothly and cooler for highway use than bias ply tires do, but folks have been using bias ply tires on the highway for years without issue. If you keep the tires properly inflated, keep your speeds down to a reasonable level (just because a tire carries an 87 mph speed rating does NOT mean it's safe to pull a trailer that fast) and don't overload the trailer, the # AM1HP56 would work very well for you.

This tire is a 205/65-10 size tire which is the same as your 20.5x8-10. I attached a couple FAQ articles on trailer tires for you to check out also.
