Video Transcript for Redline Trailer Suspension - Leaf Spring Suspension - 30-20 Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at the rear hanger with the included bushing, this is for a single axle trailer suspension system. This rear hanger suspends a double-eye leaf spring on a single axle trailer suspension system only. Again, it is configured as the rear hanger and it provides the attachment point for the leaf spring. This hanger suspends the spring from the trailer frame when used in conjunction with shackle straps. Shackle straps are sold separately, if you're in need of them you can find them here at etrailer.com. If we take a measurement of the diameter of this hole right here, that's going to give us a measurement of right around 9/16" to 5/8", so that tells us that this will work with a 9/16" diameter bolt. The bolt is sold separately as well.

This is made for use with single axle systems only. It's going to fit 1-3/4" wide double-eye springs, again, with 9/16" diameter eyes. Taking a look at the length measurement real quick, it's going to give us a measurement of about 2-1/8". The width measurement measures 1-3/4", and then the thickness, it's going to measure 3/16" thick. It's made from a nice durable steel construction. That's going to do it for today's look at the rear hanger with the included bushing for single axle trailer suspensions..

I think etrailer is Great. I think their customer service is fantastic. My wife and I were in Arkansas, 1200 miles from our home in Ft. Myers Florida. I replaced the original springs on our trailer with new heavy duty springs, but never changed the hangers or bolts. Our trailer was riding very poorly, we needed new hangers and bolts badly because we were headed on a very long 9000-mile trip with many stops all the way to the Monterey CA. etrailer found us a UPS Store along our route to send us the parts that we needed. Many thanks to etrailer for great parts and Fantastic customer service and for helping us with our most Wonderful Adventure!

Product was as advertised and work perfectly. I like your company and have purchased many items from you. The shipping was very good and arrived shortly after the purchase.

by:

The quality of this hanger is just fine, but the issue is that the dimensions listed in the description were not correct at all so it was the wrong length. Please use product staff who know the product when posting online content!

by:

The hole in the hanger is offset just a little, I wished it would have been centered like my stock on was.

by:

Loved the personal service and the help. I tried a few other sources before going online to order from etrailer. One place I tried was an online tool dealer, and their online site was a mess without help and so was a retail location. etrailer, was quick to find me exactly what I needed and got me fixed up in just a few minutes. From now on all my trailer needs will be fulfilled from etrailer!!!

by:

Weld-on rear spring hanger. Much better than the completely worn-out original rear spring hangers on my Pace American 5 x 10 trailer, due to the bushing. This gives a much larger bearing surface for the shackle bolts. Combined with wet - lubricated - spring shackle bolts (Part # 126B2), these should last a very long time

by:

These brackets are high quality I needed to replace the original ones from a old trailer the new brackets are a much heavier gauge and fit perfectly I would definitely buy again thanks

by:

Thanks for shipping so promptly. Well made mount for spring shackles...difficult to find one with an inside sleeve (makes installation of shackle bolts a no brainer). The sleeve takes the fight out of alignment issues. Love your inventory because there are many options. Thx. Marty W.

  • Differences in the Redline Single-Axle Trailer Hanger Kits, # APS1, #APS2, and # APS3
The APS1, APS2, and APS3 are all suspension kits for single-axle trailers with 1-3/4-inch double-eye springs. They are designed for use on trailers with single, 2,000-lb to 7,000-lb axles. The difference in the kits are in the rear hangers and the shackle straps. The Redline Single-Axle Trailer Hanger Kit, part # APS1, uses the Redline Rear Hanger, part # 30-20, which uses a steel bushing and is .91 inches tall. The shackle straps are the Shackle Strap, part # TRSL313, which are 3-1/8...

  • Why Dont Trailer Hangers Come with Bushings.
The # 30-20 hanger is a unique hanger as it comes with it's own bushing that has an inner diameter of 9/16 inches and installs in a different orientation than most. Like Victoria said, the reason most standard style hangers do not come with bushings is because the bushings are on the spring side of the equation. While what you said is true about wear with dissimilar materials, the reality is that hangers don't wear out at a fast enough rate to warrant a different approach. We rarely hear...

  • How is the 30-20 Hanger Designed For Mounting On Its Side and Not Facing Down
The hanger part # 30-20 is an unusual hanger in that it is recommended you attach the side of it to the trailer frame unlike most that use the other side and face "down". It is also unusual in that it has a bushing that comes with it and that the straps also attach to the outside of it. If you look at the hole of the hanger you can see that it isn't centered from top to bottom. Hangers that normally install facing down have the mounting hole centered there. I attached a picture that shows...

  • How To Mount Redline Rear Hanger # 30-20 On A Trailer
On the Redline Rear Hanger, part # 30-20, the hanger has top stamped into one of the sides of the hanger. The hanger is welded to the trailer with the side marked top, facing the outside of the trailer with the word top showing. I am including a picture of the hangar that shows the top marking and how it is positioned on the trailer.

  • Replacement Bushing for Rear Hanger with Bushing 30-20
The bushing on the Rear Hanger with Bushing # 30-20 has a 9/16" diameter and is 1-3/4" long so you'll need to use one of the bushings in the Dexter Bronze Bushings Kit # K71-291-00 as a replacement.

  • Outer Diameter of Bushing on Suspension Hanger Part # 30-20
The bushing on the Rear Single Axle Trailer Suspension Hanger is welded in place, and is not available separately. I walked out to our warehouse and pulled one of the hangers off the shelf. The outer diameter of the bushing is .76 of an inch as measured by a digital caliper.

  • Spring Hanger Dimension Recommendations for Installing a e34SR Leaf Spring
If your current springs are like the # e34SR which is 25-1/4 inches from eye to eye the correct measurement to use for the hanger spacing is 24-7/8 inches. At one point 25-3/4 inches was recommended, but we found that 24-7/8 inches was a much better dimension to use as it made the shackle strap face the correct direction. The # 30-20 should work well as a rear hanger. Going with longer shackles would move the axle closer to the trailer frame so that may not be an ideal solution for you....

  • Using Wet or Dry Shackle Bolts in Rear Leaf Spring Hanger of Single Axle Trailer
You can certainly use the 30-20 spring hanger with the # 166081 bolts, or you can use the wet bolts like part # 126B2. The bolt features a grease zerk that would allow you to grease the inside of the bushing. Using the wet bolt would probably make the suspension a bit quieter as well as helping the component to last longer.

  • Replacement Leaf Springs for a Boat Trailer Rated for 3,740 Pounds Gross Trailer Weight
The double-eye spring we have that is closest to the measurements you have provided is # e27SR. It measures 26 inches eye center to eye center, is 3-3/4 inches from the top center of the stack to the centerline of the eyes, and has 6 leaves. The spring has a capacity of 2,250 pounds. If you can tell me the center to center distance between the hangers then that can help determine the right replacement spring, too. This spring uses 9/16 inch bolts such as # 166081. The hanger that you...

  • How Does the Rear Hanger Get Welded to the Trailer Frame
On the Redline Rear Hanger, part # 30-20, which is the rear hanger included with kit # APS1, it is welded to the trailer with the side marked top, facing the outside of the trailer with the word top showing. So the U-shape part is what gets welded to the frame, on the flat part. I included a picture of the hangar that shows the top marking and how it is positioned on the trailer.

  • What are the Proper Components Needed to Install the Leaf springs On a Trailer
Building a single axle trailer you will need the following items to install leaf springs. I have listed the part numbers for the PR626 Springs next to the items needed. 2 Springs - # e27SR 2 Front Hangers - # 115917, 1-1/2 inch tall or # 28-5, 3-1/4 inches tall 2 Rear Hangers - # 30-20, with 1-1/2 inch or # 93003-3x, with 3-1/4 inch 4 Shackle Straps - # TRSL313 6 Shackle Bolts and Nuts - # 166081 These components are available in the following Kits. • Hangers to Use with Leaf Spring e54SR
The spring you ordered # e54SR would work well with the hangers # 115917 and # 30-20 with shackle straps # TRSL350. These parts are very similar to what comes with the # APS1 which is what is recommended with the springs you ordered. Only thing else you might need is the shackle bolt part # 166081. The distance between the hangers would need to be 24-7/8 inches.

  • Can a Single Axle Boat Trailer Be Switched From a Slipper Spring Suspension to Double Eye
To switch to a Double Eye Spring # e48SR you would need to also change out your Rear Hanger # 30-20 since you will be adding Shackles # K71-358-00. This is required since the rear hanger has to be 1-3/4" wide on the outer versus at least 1-3/4" wide on the inner like you get with a Slipper Spring Hanger # CES83FR for a Slipper Spring # e33SR.

  • Does Bushing In Redline Rear Spring Hanger # 30-20 Come Out to Allow Spring Installation
I pulled a sample of the Redline Rear Spring Hanger # 30-20 to check its construction for you. The included steel bushing is NOT welded into place, just fitted by tension, but it does NOT need to be removed to install a double eye spring. The bushing's hole takes a 9/16-inch shackle bolt like # 126B2. The shackle bolt secures the two shackle straps, like # 115052, on the OUTSIDES of the hanger. The other ends of the straps then hold the spring's eye with another bolt.
