Video Transcript for Review of TruRyde Trailer Leaf Spring Suspension - Shackle Links - TRSL225

Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, I'm gonna take a look at this 2 1/4-inch long shackle strap. Now this shackle strap will connect your double-eye spring to the rear hangar of your single axle trailer or to the A equalizer of a multi axle trailer. Basically using this, it'll shackle the two components together, instead of bolting them directly. It allows for the necessary pivot of the springs. This is a steel construction.

Few specs on this. Now, the length, when we say it's a 2 1/4-inch. It's not the overall length. When they talk about the length on a shackle strap, it's the measurement from the center of this hole to the center of this hole. So if we take our ruler and if we go center to center, you can see there's your 2 1/4-inch measurement.

Now, the overall dimension from one end to the other, 3 1/4 inches long, width on it, 1 1/4 inches wide, and 3/16 of an inch thick. And the two bolt holes on here, the diameter of those bolt holes are 9/16 of an inch. But that should do it for the review on the 2 1/4-inch long shackle strap.

Had a leaf spring break on my off-road trailer in Mexico. Left it at a boat yard until I received the parts from trailer & returned to replace. Only took 2 hrs to replace both leafsprinhs, shackles, bolts etc. And we were back on the road.

by:

Quick delivery and exactly what I needed to repair a broken shackle (which happened when the E-brake was triggered).

by:

Etrailer has a top rate operation! Their phone associates are professional and knowledgeable and their site is full of resources to help you diagnose issues and select the right parts.

I used the Camper in the Summer during the Holidays , No problems Every Thing is still Working Fine

by:

A perfect match to the original shackles

by:

Very durable, my trailer is back on the road again.!!!

Pat from etrailer helped me enormously with this purchase. Most of the 2 1/4 inch shackle plates I found for sale were 1/8 inch thick, but on my triple axle trailer the originals are 3/16 inch thick. I know it's not much, but I couldn't imagine going to a smaller (even slightly) shackle plate given that I was shopping for new ones after two of them broke! Anyway, Pat called the manufacturer the following morning when they opened, then called me to confirm they were the right thickness. What great customer service! The plates arrived quickly, and fit perfectly. My camper was stranded in front of my suburban home for fear the suspension would collapse if I towed it to be repaired. Finding the exact replacement parts allowed me to repair the camper myself and tow it back to storage before the neighbors got too upset. The plates were in good shape when they arrived, and the holes had a slight bevel to accept the ribbed shoulder of my replacement bolts. I expect many years of service out of these new shackle plates.

Just what I ordered, and the quality looks to excellent.

Right size and dimension works great

replaced the suspension on my 5th wheel--all went well and now I am much releived to lub with a grease gun and not a oil can. one of the wet bolts was defective--I called you sent one out quickly--thanks

After suffering a major incident on the highway where 3 of the 4 tires were destroyed along with the rims and some suspension parts, I needed parts fast and correct for my trailer. These wheels, along with the other suspension parts, where inexpensive, well built, accurately described, delivered quickly, and exactly what I needed to get my trailer back up and in operating condition again.

by:

great springs, well constructed. Size was exactly what was advertised.

by:

I ordered several items for my boat trailer to replace the springs and renew the related hardware. There was a little glitch, as the springs were sold out in inventory. The etrailer staff quickly advised me of this issue and offered alternatives. However, my order was shipped was shipped within a few days and arrived as ordered. I will definitely use etrailer again.

by:

The products I ordered are exactly as described, and finding what I was looking for was very easy. The ordering process is also very easy, and shipping was much faster than I expected. In fact, the folks at etrailer went out of their way to make that happen. The prices here are more than fair as well. The folks here go out of their way to help with accessories and product information to help insure you get the right parts for the task at hand.

Customer service is second to none here, and it is indeed very refreshing to see a company who "genuinely" cares about their customers satisfaction as the folks at etrailer do!

I will try to come back and submit photos once I complete the repairs.

by:

Just received the shackle straps and bolt. They look excellent and superior as the originals were only 1/2 " dia. and strap holes elongated by 1/4 ". One was worn thru. Also, straps are at least 1/32 thicker than originals.

You phone person that took the order did an excellent job and very patient. First trailer suspension I have overhauled so some difficulty in describing what I even needed.
Should be back on the road in a day or so. tks bob

by:

Bought 4 leaf springs, bolts, bushings, etc... Needed it next day, and the shipping cost more than the parts, which tells me the parts were a great price. All was well, on time, and to order. The only problem was I should have ordered two more shackle bolts... but that's on me. Thanks Guys and Gals. I am a happy 62 year old Marine Vet back on the road!

by:

Good product but the description is a bit confusing. The shackle is actually 3 1/2" long and the bolt holes are on 2 1/4' centers. Dexter calls this a 3 1/2" long shackle; eTrailer calls it a 2 1/4 long shackle. The diagram clears up the confusion, but it would be helpful to the uninitiated (myself) if the method of measuring was the same.

by:

Just exactly what I needed!

After one year and about 15K miles pulling loads of around 7K I couldn't be happier! These parts were a tremendous upgrade to my existing parts.

by:

Straps are thinner than the originals. Seems to be a common complaint I overlooked before ordering. I will be concerned about premature wear and looser suspension until I get these replaced with better quality parts. Hopefully the wet bolt kits will lessen the wear.

by:

Fit perfectly, thank you.

by:

So glad we found greasable bushings, bolts and nuts to replace plastic setup on our 5th wheel while traveling. If you have Forest River you need to replace with greasable. Repair shops just do plastic if you don't know better and send you on your way!! Awesome staff and quick shipping Quality parts

  • Will Trailer Shackle Straps Rust
The shackles like the # TRSL225 are bare steel. With enough contact with moisture they will begin to show signs of surface rust. Especially on a boat trailer that backed into saltwater.

  • How to Pick Out Correct Shackle Length for Trailer Suspension
Well shackle length is mainly based on the height difference between the front and rear hangers. The rear hanger normally doesn't hang as low as the front so that the shackle can offset the difference and add the ability to move. What is the height difference from the frame of the trailer to the hole on both hangers? With that we can see what would work best as a shackle. You want to go with the shackle length that allows the spring to sit as level as possible. The most popular size is...

  • What Should Hanger Spacing be If Trailer Leaf Spring is 25-1/4 inches Long
If the shackles you have now are still good you can reuse them but you would want to use a hanger spacing of right at 25 inches since your leaf springs are 25-1/4 inch. For replacement shackle straps you could use the part # TRSL225 for a 2-1/4 inch long shackle.

  • Can 3-1/2" Shackles Replace 3-1/4" Shackles On Boat Trailer?
Since your hangers are the same size you will just want to match the new shackles to your original shackles as that is how the suspension was setup from the manufacturer. With that said since there is only a 1/4" difference between the original3-1/4" shackles and the new 3-1/2" shackles like the # TRSL350 you purchased you won't have any issues. I included a video of the # TRSL350 for you to take a look at.

  • Selecting Replacement Shackle Straps for 30-Foot Toy Hauler Trailer
Shackle straps are the most wear-prone part of a trailer suspension since they both carry weight and receive constant friction from the motion of the suspension. Shackle straps do not carry specific weight capacities, unlike the leaf springs they suspend. To select replacements all you need to do is match their length. Shackle straps are available in three lengths, 3-1/8-inch (single axle systems), 2-5/8-inch (tandem and triple axle trailers) and 2-1/4-inch, the most common length for...

  • How to Find Correct Replacement Shackle Straps for Trailer
In regards to measuring shackle straps, you don't need to remove them to measure accurately. If they are still installed on the trailer simply measure from the center of each bolt head, the two most common are 2-1/4" part # TRSL225 and 3-1/8" part # TRSL313. It looks like you have the smaller 2-1/4" but you really ought to just measure yourself first.

  • Can 2-1/4 Inch Long Shackle Straps be Used in Place of 2 Inch Long Shackle Straps on a Trailer
The only way to know for sure if the 1/4 inch longer shackle straps, # TRSL225 (compared to the 2 inch long # TRSL200) will be a problem is to install them. The longer straps will likely mean they will be at a steeper angle once installed and that could affect the travel of the suspension. I do recommend not chancing it and go ahead and get the correct shackle straps # TRSL200.

  • Why Are Shackle Straps Hitting Frame When Re-Building Trailer Suspension
The problem seems to be mostly that your shackle straps are hitting the frame, and the reason for this is almost certainly because the 3-1/8" Shackle Strap # TRSL313 you are using are too long. The other possibility was the hangers being too short but that is unlikely considering the lengths you gave. What I recommend is trying out the 2-5/8" shackle straps from the the # APT8 kit you have, as those are the typical length for a tandem axle trailer, while 2-1/4" straps such as # TRSL225...

  • Why do Some Trailer Suspension Kits Have Longer Equalizer Hangers
The reality is that not every manufacturer makes their suspension kits to the same standard sizes. Some use taller hangers with wider equalizers and some might use a taller equalizer with a shorter center hanger. It really just comes down to the preference of the manufacturer and what gives them the ride height and distance between tires that works the best for them. Also the fact that some trailer leaf springs happen to be longer or shorter plays into what is best solution as well. Ideally...

You'll be find with the same shackle length you're currently using, as the height difference is only a 1/4 inch. At the time you replace the equalizer, I'd also recommend replacing the shackle links, as they can see a lot of wear. The # TRSL225 2-1/4 inch shackle links would work great for you.

Your question came in blank, but based on the picture you submitted it looks like you are in need a replacement shackle strap that is 3-1/2 inches in length. For that you would want the Shackle Strap # TRSL225. This strap is 3-1/2 inches long like what you have pictured with the hole measurements 2-1/4 inches on center. • Replacement 6 inch Equalizers and 2-1/4 inch Shackle Straps for Trailer Suspension
When looking at equalizers for your trailer's suspension, anything at or over an inch in difference will most likely cause some issues with the overall suspension, especially if nothing else is being replaced. To replace your original equalizers, I recommend using the TruRyde Triangular Equalizer # TREQ310. This measures 6-1/16 inches in length and 4 inches in height. In order to determine if the Never Fail Triple Axle Suspension Upgrade Hardware Kit part # LC281288 will work on your 2004 Thor Vortex 385 5th Wheel Trailer you will need to confirm a few things. For starters, the bushings and bolts are designed for 1-3/4" wide double eye leaf springs that use a 9/16" bolt so you must make sure this is what you have. We don't carry the TPU5212 kit but from what I'm seeing it looks like a whole kit so for a whole replacement kit I recommend the MORryde Suspension Upgrade Kit # MR58ZR which comes with bolts, shackles, and bushings for a tandem axle trailer.
