Spring Hanger Dimension Recommendations for Installing a e34SR Leaf Spring
Question:
I have bri mar 5000lb dump trailer the parts they used looks like e34SR springs 1 1/2 front and 30-20 rear hangers with 2 1/4 shackles they did mount the rear shackles the way the front ones are mounted with the thinner metal to the rear it is almost worn thru. I want to replace the rear hanger and mount the way you show how to mount it but I found 2 different mounting spreads on your site for the hanger spread one was 25 3/4 and the other one was 24 7/8. which one should I use. With all the wear there is also only 1 3/4 inch space between the 3 inch axle tube and the frame should I use longer shackles when I replace rear hangers. Thanks

If your current springs are like the # e34SR which is 25-1/4 inches from eye to eye the correct measurement to use for the hanger spacing is 24-7/8 inches. At one point 25-3/4 inches was recommended, but we found that 24-7/8 inches was a much better dimension to use as it made the shackle strap face the correct direction.
The # 30-20 should work well as a rear hanger. Going with longer shackles would move the axle closer to the trailer frame so that may not be an ideal solution for you. 3 inches of travel for the suspension of your trailer SHOULD be enough. Once installed, you should have 4-1/4 inches from center of axle to bottom of trailer frame though.
