Note: This adapter is designed to flat tow a vehicle only. Do not use to tow a trailer. When using with a hitch-mounted accessory, such as a bike rack or cargo carrier, the tongue weight of your hitch will be reduced by at least 50 percent.

Most tow systems require some sort of hitch accessory to either raise or lower the tow bar to an appropriate level. The "Safe Zone" for a motor-home-mounted tow bar ranges from 3" above level to 3" below. Car-mounted models must be absolutely level. This high-low adapter can provide you with the necessary drop or desired rise to achieve a level tow bar setup.

The tow bar rise extension was exactly what I needed to raise up the attachment point for my Roadmaster Falcon All-Terrain tow bar when pulling my Jeep Wrangler. Perfect fit and finish.

The riser is working great. I did add two hitch quietner U-bolts to keep the angle appropriate and to keep the connections from rattling. It is a great setup and I am super pleased with it.

by:

Good quality, perfect fit, didn't have to modify anything!

by:

Item worked great on my JK Wrangler to connect my Thule bike rack. Customer service was top notch!!!

by:

Just as advertised. New tow vehicle is higher than the original tow vehicle, therefore required a riser to tow properly. This fit my needs. eTrailer provided excellent help and shipping was prompt. I am a repeat customer and will purchase other items when other needs arise.

by:

I bought this in order to extend and lower a Thule T2 bike rack away from the spare tire on the back of a Jeep Wrangler.

The stock hitch mount location left the bike rack in the way of the spare tire when trying to fold the rack into the up position - and when lowering the rack to gain access to the rear of the vehicle.

This hitch extension gave me the perfect amount of clearance to implement all of the rack's operating positions. It's extremely well-made and super-duty. It's probably overkill for what I'm using it for, but I wanted the peace of mind that my rack and bikes were riding extra safely.

I was a bit worried that lowering the hitch would give me ground clearance issues, but those fears were unfounded. I still have plenty of room under there, and I can cross steep rail crossings without anything dragging.

For added peace of mind, I also ordered the anti-rattle lock (part #63232) and the quiet hitch (part # RM-061). The anti-rattle lock keeps this extension from being stolen. It also eliminates any side to side movement the extension has in the hitch.

The anti-rattle lock cuts down on almost all movement of the extension in the hitch; however, there was still a small amount of up and down movement. With the combination of the lock and the quiet hitch, the connection feels like it's welded on. If I was strong enough, I could lift the entire Jeep off the ground with this thing!

I'm really satisfied with the setup.

Thad,I recently got the 6 for my 2015 Wrangler, same reasons as you mentioned. Not knowing anything about TW, I didnt consider this in the purchase maximum 100 Lb. The Thule T2 is a pretty hefty rack and with 2 Mountain bikes on it, I would say its around 80-100 Lbs.Have you had any problems? When I sent in my review is when they cautioned me.

Tk

8/19/2015

Jeff, I have had zero issues with this extension or the Thule T2. My friends and I ride fat bikes. If youre familiar with them, theyre quite a bit heavier than a regular mountain bike. Ive had two fat bikes on that rack setup on many occasions. No problem.

Thanks for your follow up, but I would like to remind you that you will want to make sure that with your bikes loaded you will want to be within the tongue weight capacities of this high low adapter. Jeff, the Roadmaster High-Low adapters come in 2 different tonge weight capacities, you might consider the higher option that allows up to 400 pounds of tongue weight. These higher tounge weight capacity adapters have a solid shank which gives it the higher capacity, and the option with the same 4 inch drop would be RM-048-4.

by:

Quality construction and it lowers the reciever to the correct height for my tow car. I would recomend this product.

by:

The offset hitch is everything that it was advertised to be. I am offsetting my hitch up and around the bumper on my motor home. The extra long 4" offset hitch worked perfect. Now the hitch is level with the tow bar on my Jeep. The delivery was fast and customer service was friendly.

I am very satisfied with the products I have purchased from etrailer. They are performing like new. I am especially pleased with the etrailer customer service and follow-up. Your business should always have success with that good attitude towards customer satisfaction.

by:

Item as described, works perfectly. Discovered I was going to be gone from home after I'd ordered this - talked to etrailer before it had actually shipped - they were able to re-route it to my destination, which is where I was needing it!

Needed to raise the blue ox tow bar on the RV to match the height of a new Wrangler JKU. This did the job perfectly without being too expensive.

Still a 5 star in my book - does great.

Needed to drop the tow bar to match the new vehicle level for better tow control.

Not as many trips due to COVID but have pulled the tow car around for about 4000 miles and it works perfect.

by:

Had ordered a different hitch riser that wouldn't work because of the bumper on the motorhome, returned it and ordered one that Lindy A suggested. It just arrived about an hour ago , l put it on and everything is good.
Thanks so much for your help, never seem to go wrong dealing with you guys,
Thanks again

It was good, since then we have changed motorhomes and cant use this one anymore, not tall enough, but when we used it, it performed as expected

by:

Purchased this to tow my Jeep behind my motorhome. Need the drop to properly align the towbar. Shortly afterwards, I lifted the Jeep and changed the front bumper. This unit was no longer needed. Only used it maybe twice.

With that said, it appears well made. Very strong and capable.

Only suggestion. I would like it to have more than one pin hole so it can be set farther into the receiver.

by:

My Class B+ needed a rise of 4" to be within the 3" out of level spec for my Ranger. It does it's job--however it also moves my Roadmaster All Terrain towbar back about 11". The towbar sticks out back a lot and I was concerned the car behind me might hit it without a towed being hooked up. It may affect the "tail wagging the dog" a bit when the Ranger is in a rut and the RV isn't. I could shorten that distance by drilling new pin holes, but Roadmaster said NO!

This worked perfectly for towing my Corolla behind the RV using the Blue Ox Alpha tow bar. There were no problems with hole alignments.

by:

Just received and installed. Untested, however. A bit of wobble noted between the stinger and receiver hitch interior Looks like a well built item and will allow me to bring my tow bar into the + or - 3" from level as per Roadmaster specs. Shipping was quite fast, even arrived a day earlier than promised w/o excuses as to conflicting with Thanksgiving holiday and/or black Friday, et al. Contact person at etrailer, George, was right on top of things and communicated via email which was much appreciated so I didn't have to guess about when shipped, etc. I really like these etrailer guys, my third purchase and it won't be my last. Oh yeah, no sales tax for us in California.

by:

etrailer was recommended to me by another RV'er. After talking with Paula S I can fully understand why the company was recommended. She was very helpful and knowledgeable concerning my questions. The product I ordered, a high/low hitch receiver for my motor home, arrived promptly and was exactly what I needed.
It appears customer service is a big priority to them. Highly recommend.

by:

The RoadMaster drop down hitch would simply not fit my towbar. The towbar was not unique in the 2” hitch fitting as I confirmed with BlueOx and it fit the hitch on my RV just fine. The Roadmaster drop down hitch would fit my RV 2” hitch fine but the side for the towbar just would not budge. Once eTrailer Customer Service understood the issue they promptly sent me a pre-paid return label and provided a full refund. I believe the issue was a manufacturer defect. Very impressed with etrailer Customer Service and extremely happy with the return and refund process! Outstanding Customer Service and I would definitely buy from them again in the future.

by:

Have a lifted jeep wrangler and need to raise the hitch to keep the tow bar level. This is the perfect hitch for my needs. The offset on the hitch helped me clear the bumper on my RV as my receiver is set-back under the bumper. Would recommend this product for Nemar RV owners that need to raise their hitch.

by:

Purchased items were delivered as promised and received in good condition. All worked perfectly as needed. After wiring a car to be pulled by a motor home, I found out a converter and two additional diodes were needed to make the lights function as needed. All are now installed and am very pleased with the outcome. Will have no problem with my next purchase ordering from etrailer.

RoadMaster High-Low Drop - 4" - 6,000 lbs GTW; 100 lbs TW. Bought this to help raise our hitch so that the piece of equipment we need to haul weekly did not drag. It does exactly what it said it would do and more. It also gives us enough room to be able to open the hatch of our vehicle. It's exactly what we needed. The company who installed our hitch said no one made something like this. How wrong they were! Great product.

by:

I needed this to ensure that the tow bar was within the specified +/- 3" height delta that Blue Ox recommends for their tow bar setups. The welds are solid and the finish is good.

by:

This hitch was the perfect match for my
Nighthawk
tow bar. Everything is level
And works perfectly.

by:

Drop down adapter allows tow bar when towing car behind the motorhome to remain as same height as the hitch on the motorhome.

by:

Just what I needed to level my towbar . Ordering was easy and shipping is fast . I always use etrailer

No problem . Perfect match for towing my toad

etrailer comes through with a great selection of options for drop hitches at competitive prices. And they even upgraded the method of shipping I chose so I got my hitch faster than expected.

  • Tongue Weight Capacity of RoadMaster High-Low Drop Adapter # RM-070
When you have all 4 wheels of the toad on the ground, the tongue weight is next to nothing. The 200 pound rating does account for sudden but brief increases in tongue weight such as bumps in the road. The idea of using a high-low adapter like # RM-070 is so that the tow bar is level. A level tow bar means the tongue weight will be low.

  • 2007 Lincoln Navagater to carry a power chair on carrier about 420 Lbs
You are correct. The RoadMaster 4 Inch Hi-Lo Drop, part # RM-070 is meant for use with a tow bar used for towing a vehicle. It is meant to tow a rolling load, not a situation where more than 100 lbs of downward force is applied to it.

  • How Much Length Will the RoadMaster High-Low Drop # RM-070 Add to Flat Towing Setup
The RoadMaster High-Low Drop # RM-070 would extend your tow bar out about an additional 10 inches. If you don't need the additional drop of 4 inches then this adapter wouldn't be needed as it is not a requirement for flat towing a vehicle. If you did need it the additional length wouldn't be too big of a deal. When you are already flat towing a vehicle behind your RV what's another 10 inches? I attached a picture that shows this adapter being used to flat tow a Mazda Miata.

  • How to Measure to Determine the Right High/Low Adapter Needed to Flat Tow a Honda Fit Level
To determine which hi/low adapter is needed when flat towing your Honda Fit you will first need to have both the vehicle and the RV parked on level ground. On the RV, measure from the ground to the top of the receiver opening on the trailer hitch. Then on the Fit, measure from the ground up to the center of the base plate brackets the tow bar attaches to. The RV is likely higher so the difference in height is the amount of drop you will need. Most tow bars can be mounted within a 3 inch...

  • 4 Inch High-Low Drop used with Cargo Carrier
I would not use part # RM-070 with your cargo carrier. It is meant for use with a towbar while towing a vehicle on all 4 wheels and does not have a weight capacity suitable for cargo carriers. The part that would work for your application is part # V75090. It has a tongue capacity of 500 pounds, meaning that the total weight of your cargo carrier and cargo cannot exceed 500 lbs. It will provide 6 inches of rise to get your carrier away from the exhaust.

  • Can Roadmaster High Low Adapter with Lower Capacity that Tow Bar Be Used Safely
As long as the tow bar and high-low adapter are rated for at least the weight of the vehicle you are flat towing you'd be fine with one being rated for less weight. So if the 4 inch high-low adapter part # RM-070 will allow your to tow your Colorado level and the vehicle weighs less than 6,000 lbs this would be a great solution that would be perfectly safe. From what I was able to find your Colorado would weigh at most 4,520 lbs so you'd be fine.

  • High-Low Adapter to Tow a Mini Cooper Behind a Motor Home
Most tow bars have a certain range in which they can work. That range is usually 3 inches off from level. A 6 inch drop would get you as close to level as you are going to get which is great.
