Note: This adapter is designed to carry a bike rack only. Do not use to tow a vehicle or trailer. When using with a hitch-mounted accessory, such as a bike rack or cargo carrier, the tongue weight of your hitch will be reduced by at least 50 percent.
Hitch Extender
This hitch extender lets you carry a Kuat bike rack on your vehicle with a rear-mounted spare tire. It has 2 pin holes along the shank. The pin hole closest to the end of the shank provides 10" of extra length, and the pin hole closest to the center of the shank provides 7" of extra length. To install it just insert the extender into your hitch, align the desired hole with your hitch pin hole, and insert the hitch pin.
Drop or Rise Position
This extender can also be used to lower or raise your bike rack 2-1/8". To provide clearance for your bike rack when your tailgate is lowered insert the unit with the head down. To give your bike rack clearance over steep driveways and other uneven terrain insert the unit with the head up.
Anti-Rattle Hitch Pin
Use the included anti-rattle hitch pin to secure the extender to your vehicle's hitch. Use your Kuat bike rack's hitch pin to secure your rack to the extender.

Includes anti-rattle hitch pin.The Kuat Hi Lo was needed for my Wrangler JK with an oversized rear spare tire for use with the Kuat Sherpa 2.0 Rack. I have the rack raised versus lowered with the 7 inch versus 10 inch extension and it bikes fit and rack folds.
The anti rattle bolt on the Hi Lo extension works great and is preferred over a simple low cost hitch extender.
ONLY issue is that it does not come with a lock so with the right allen wrench my bikes and hitch (which would be locked to the extension) could be removed. To solve this I used the Kuat Sherpa included pin lock on this and purchased an aftermarket pin lock for the rack itself. Might be overkill, but with the cost of the bikes and the rack itself I would preferred that they were locked. 5 stars if it had a lock, which it should for the money.
Works great to extend the bike rack beyond my spare tire in the wrangler. Wish it had a way to tighten it to the receiver so it didn’t wiggle
Works great! Exactly what I needed. Without the extension, the exhaust on the left side comes out right into the wheel on the bike rack. I learned the hard way after melting a wheel...

To avoid damage to a hitch mounted accessory or anything carried on it, its best to have at least 12 inches of rearward clearance.
Worked perfectly. I needed a little bit more extension to get clearance to fully open the rear door on my Jeep Wrangler. This provided enough additional length I am able to drop bike rack position and swing open door.
I bought this because I have a bike rack on the front of my Ram truck and the rack would not flip into an upright position without moving the rack away from the truck a couple of inches. It works well, but is one more thing to tighten to keep from rattling along with the bike rack.

I bought a new truck with a hitch slightly higher than my old one. As a result the tailgate wouldn’t open all the way before hitting the rack. This product solved the problem by lowering the hitch point and avoided the need to buy a new rack.
This came with one threaded pin and stop-clip to attach the hi-lo to your hitch. Since that is only threaded and not really secure, any one can simply unscrew this pin, and take the adaptor and your items away. Other lock pins may have difficulties fitting in the lock channels because of the threads blocking the pin hole clearance.
If your hitch only has 1 pin hole, you'll need to discard the threaded pin that came with it, to use a locked pin.

You can use the Kuat Anti-Rattle Hitch Lock # HLT to lock your Hi-Lo Extender in your trailer hitch.

The extender works great! I use the down position with the bike carrier on our SUV and the up position when using the carrier on our small RV. The up position clears the brake/tail lights, for good rear visibility!
Exactly what I needed to extend the length of my Kuat bike rack! Bought a new Jeep with 33" tires, including the spare, so I needed this adapter in to connect the rack. Perfect fit. I leave this adapter on the Jeep and just take the rack off when not in use. THank you so much!
This extension was exactly what I needed to successfully mount my new Kuat NV 2.0 to the existing custom 2" receiver on my fifth wheel kingpin. This extension gave me the flexibility to mount the bike rack so the bikes safely cleared my fifth wheel front cap. It locked up solidly and worked perfectly.
Fit was great. High quality. The instructions did not distinguish between washer and locking washer as to the order of putting them on and the cotter pin seemed to dangle a bit until I adjusted. Both of these are more likely my ignorance thus this is still a 5 star product sold to a 2 star mechanic!

Although a bit pricey, it worked perfectly so that my Kuat bike rack would clear the spare tire on my Toyota FJ when folded up.

Wanted to mount the Kuat Transfer on my Wrangler, but spare tire was too big. This extension is sturdy and fits tight and secure. Kuat (and etrailer.com) never disappoints. Love their products and service!

Solid. Gives perfect clearance to attach a bike rack behind the spare tire on my Jeep Wrangler. Easy to install. It has an anti wobble bolt. Exactly what the doctor ordered.
Due to a previous rating referring to a Hyundai Santa Fe it guided me to the Kuat HiLo. The riser gave my Kuat Serpa clearance from my exhaust. When installed the Kuat HiLo is very tight with no rattle. Very happy with this product.
Bought this to make sure the Kuat Transfer 2 cleared the spare tire on my 2007 Rav4—works like a champ. Installed this in the lowered position, when folded down flat the Transfer 2 doesn't get in the way of opening the rear door, either. Great purchase.
Great part, great service. This hi-lo receiver works great with my jeep. Allows me to run a Kuat rack and still open the rear door. Also had a great experience with customer service as I had to call an update my order before it shipped.
Fit / finish is perfect as usual with Kuat. It’s Exactly what I needed for my Jeep, the spare tire now clears my bike rack.
Quality build product. Gave 4 stars instead of 5 due to extender hitch pin design. Pin is small in diameter and cotter pin fits loosely. A very minor thing but worth mentioning. Overall a great product!

1 Year Check in - First found it easier to use by flipping the extender to the lower position. Have taken multiple trips with 2 bike on 500 mile trips with no issues. Rack is awesome and only wish I bought it years ago versus using holding on to my old hanging style rack - HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS RACK
