T2 Classic for 1-1/4" Hitches

The Thule T2 Classic platform-style bike rack lets you carry 2 bikes using your vehicle's hitch. The rack is designed to carry bicycles of varying sizes and styles, and it can hold bikes with fat tires up to 5" wide. The bike trays adjust to optimize bike spacing and reduce bike-to-bike contact. The ratcheting arms and wheel trays secure your bikes by the wheels so there's no frame contact. The rack tilts down with bikes loaded so you can access your vehicle's rear cargo area, and it folds up when not in use.

Wheel-Mount Design for Easy Bike Loading

Ratcheting Wheel Hook

The rack allows you to quickly and easily load and carry 2 bicycles on the back of your vehicle. The ratcheting arms and front wheel cradles securely hold your bikes by the front wheels so there's no frame contact. Simply set your bike on the rack and pivot the upright arm up and over the front wheel. Then just ratchet the hook down so it firmly grips your wheel.

Wheel Hook Lock Core

The arms can also be locked in place with Thule One-Key System lock cylinders (TH512 - sold separately). One-Key System cylinders can be swapped out to make all of your Thule gear keyed alike.

Sliding Rear-Wheel Cradle

The sliding rear-wheel cradles allow the rack to accommodate bikes with wheelbases up to 48" long, and they accommodate tires up to 5" wide. The cradles include ratcheting, rubber straps to hold your bikes' rear wheels securely in place on the tray.

Regular Strap Length

For road bikes and mountain bikes insert the strap into the hole at the bottom of the cradle. Then run the strap along the side and over the top of the cradle.

Fat Tire Strap Length

For fat tire bikes insert the strap under the bracket on the side of the cradle. Then simply run the strap over the top of the cradle.

Fully Adjustable Bike Trays

Adjustable Bike Trays

The front and rear bike trays are fully adjustable to ensure you have enough space when mounting your bikes. Just loosen the 4 bolts where the tray attaches to the rack base, slide the tray front to back and side to side to achieve the desired spacing, and then tighten the bolts. This will prevent your bikes' handlebars from becoming tangled, and it eliminates the fear of bike-to-bike contact during transport.

Tilting and Folding Design

HitchSwitch Lever

The integrated HitchSwitch lever allows the T2 Classic to easily tilt. The rack tilts down with or without bikes loaded for convenient rear cargo area access.

Rack Tilts Up for Storage

It also folds up for storage when you're not transporting a bike. This is great for parking in places where space is limited such as a parking garage.

Hitch Lock and Anti-Rattle Device

Snug Tite Hitch Lock

The rack includes a SnugTite hitch lock and anti-rattle device. The hitch lock secures the rack to your hitch with the included One-Key System lock cylinder. And the threaded hitch pin eliminates movement and rattle in the hitch.

I have to get a trailer hitch extension in order for the bike rack to fold up when not in use. Definitely will go through etrailer for this item.

Thanks for your review, Mike. Please note that using a hitch extender for your bike rack will reduce the hitch tongue weight by 50 percent.

Great product. We just got a new convertible and I could not use the roof mount or trunk mount. Using the bikes was important. Taking care of the bikes is important too. This bike rack is really the best I have ever had. It is extremely easy to use. I like that it has built in locks. I can use the hard top convertible on the VW Eos if I only have one bike positioned outward. It also works with no bikes installed. I could not be happier with this product and the incredible price, fast shipping and overall value from etrailer.com.

by:

Great bike rack! Very easy loading and unloading and it's secure. It easily fold up and out of the way when not in use. A little bit heavy but for hitch mount it need to have a solid bar to carry the load.Very fast free shipping. Best price I found! ????

Description is confusing...three locks are included which secure the bikes. Two more locks are required, to provide extra security but the to pack lock keys will not match. A set of six extra locks are required to make the hitch a on key system.

I bought 2 additional locks that matched my existing locks

Thanks for the response Glenn, you are correct if you have an existing Thule key number we can usually match additional lock cores to minimize the need for additional keys.

by:

This is a very sturdy bike rack. Works great. It is pretty heavy, though, and it requires someone stronger than I am to put it on. I am leaving it on all summer. It makes my car beep when backing up because it partially covers the backup camera. Other than that, my husband and I are very pleased with it. We are both in our 70's

by:

It's a good solid bike rack overall. The biggest negative issue is the release mechanism for raising and lowering the rack. It's difficult to get it to fully disengage. Makes raising and lowering frustrating. Perhaps that's why this model was discontinued.

Etrailer Expert

Laura E.

George, this rack has not been discontinued, but replaces TH917XTR. If you are having a problem with raising and lowering your rack, please give us a call at 1-800-298-8924. We would love to help!

by:

Great product, reliable and safe. Easy to operate and the locking system is effective. The installation instructions were a little awkward in that the mfg. reverses some of the parts in order to fit all the pieces into the delivery box. So read instructions carefully before dismantling. Be careful when "dropping" the carrier in order to open trunk door - the weight of the bicycles quickly drops the carrier into the final locked position.

Make sure to tighten the bolt connecting the carrier to the hitch - reduces any vibration while driving

The rack is excellent, very easy to use. Two things any buyer should know, it is designed to be left on your car all the time. I take it on and off rather than just flipping it up because of garage space requirements. Not a huge deal, but you can tell it's designed to be flipped up and left on.

The other things worth noting is you need to be careful if you've got a flat tire, the bike will be very loose if the tire is deflating in the rack. Again, not a huge deal, just something to be aware of. Overall I love this rack and would recommend highly for the ease of use (easy on, easy off with the bike) and clear quality of the design/build

by:

We were very impressed with he solid construction of this bike rack. I have an unusual reclining bike and this allows me to cinch down the tires securely. Also LOVE the additional cable lock. Make sure you match all the locks so you only need one key. Very easy to tilt the rack down for access to the trunk of my vehicle. This was an expensive purchase but worth every penny because of the quality of the rack.

by:

Overall this is a really good bike rack. I installed it on a 2010 Volkwsagen EOS. The best part about the rack is how easy it is to get bikes on and off, literally 20 seconds per bike once you've done it a couple of times.

Unfortunately I can't fold the rack into the upright position with my car, probably because my trailer hitch is installed quite far back from the bumper. I'm not terribly concerned about that though. If you're an EOS owner you know that the trunk lid opens backwards when you operate the roof. I found that there is JUST ENOUGH room to do this with bikes on the rack if you tilt the rack down AND make sure that the pedal on the inside bike is at the 6 o'clock position. Of course you should test it with your own installation to make sure.

Installing and removing the rack isn't terribly easy, I found that I had to pretty much lay down on the ground under my car to reach the bolt.

by:

Would give it a 5 star, but the clearance on the wheel holder would not let me get it into place with my Wendego 2.0 because of the quick release clamp. Since I can't swap sides with it the work around is to remove the quick release axle, raise the tire holder, put the axle back in and tighten then lock the wheel in place. On the positive side, don't have to lock it since they won't be able to figure it out very fast. Overall, great workmanship. Heavy duty with good clear directions.

by:

Great service from Etrailer on every item I have ordered from them. 2 hitches and a bike rack. Customer service is VERY good in todays world. They have not outsourced customer service! Thank you for that!

by:

Once again, etrailer has done an awesome job. I’ve bought a few trailer hitches for my vehicles from them and they have all been awesome. From the start of the process to the follow up after delivery, I have no doubt that they really care that you are 100% satisfied with the product and the service. As far as the Thule bike carrier goes, NICE! Built very well and delivered on the day promised with no damage. Quality product, great price. THANKS!!!!

by:

Got this rack after finding out Yakima didn't make one to fit my hitch....overall seems good but heavy. I like the fact the rack with bikes don't "dance" behind the car but don't like having to use a wrench to tighten the bolt to the hitch.....kind of a pain. Great service from etrailer though...really looked after me!

by:

This bike rack was easily assembled and only required a few parts to be assembled. The tack is extremely sturdy. I haven’t yet mounted it on the vehicle yet but with the ability to tighten it down with a hitch bolt rather that a simple hitch pin I suspect that it will not move back there. The brackets will allow for adjusting the bikes positions to keep them from contacting each other. I love the fact that I can lock the hitch to the car and the bikes to the hitch.

by:

Great rack, supports bikes well. no movement or chance of them touching. with the 1 1/4 in hitch, there is no possibility of adding on to be clear. also, if you have a subaru OEM hitch, there is very little of the shaft that fits into the hitch... make sure to get a different hitch than OEM for extra safety.

by:

The staff (Michael) at etrailer.com took the time to help research the different hitch style bike racks to see which one would fit my Jeep correctly, since with the rear tire most wouldn't, he took the time to send me video's of each on how they work. It fits perfect with the adaptor and I couldn't be happier. Thank you etrailer.com for your help and patience in getting me the correct item.

by:

This bike rack has worked out perfectly for my husbands recumbent bike. Easy on and easy off compared to all the hassle of his previous one, makes a big difference when you get back from a long ride and are tired and all you want is to load the bikes and go!! The seller is easy to work with and responded to my questions and concerns promptly...would definitely recommend ordering from them. And the quality of their products are spot on.

by:

Unfortunately I didn't think about the fact that our bikes have fenders on them and this carrier is a wheel clamp design. I had to return the rack as there is no real option to use when the bikes have fenders. The Rack itself seemed fantastic. I just did not get it for the right bike design

by:

I am 23 and was able to put this all together by myself. I put it on a 2013 Honda CRV. When the bars for the bikes were put on according to the directions, the drivers side wheel well could not clear my bumper without rubbing it. Therefore, I measured the distance between the two bars and moved them down away from the vehicle. This worked well and fixed the problem. I can take this off and put it on all by myself and put it on all by myself.

by:

Got to assemble it on a vehicle. The only brain dead moment I had was with the Keys.
There IS a blank key, an Installation Key to put the key cylinders in place. At the END of the instructions, they show you the two keys.
Oh, and the exploded, list of items shows the two keys.

I'm an engineer... so when i doubt...
go read the instructions carefully.

by:

Great product, I've been happy with the previous Thule, and am happy to see I dont' have to mess with feeding the Thule cable through my bike to lock it anymore

by:

This bike rack meets all my needs. I'm able to haul both mine and my wife's heavy e-bike with it. Great price and quick delivery from etrailer.

by:

Love love love this bike rack. So easy to put bikes on and off. Bikes ride very secure and no bouncing.

You will need to add the Thule One-Key System Lock Cylinders Part # TH450400 to have the wheel mount arms lockable with a matching key and prevent theft.
