Is Separate Hitch Pin Required for Installing Thule T2 Pro XTR Bike Rack on 2020 Subaru Crosstrek
Question:
Hello! So I just ordered the 13382 hitch for my 2020 crosstrek. I am also ordering the thule T2 bike rack, do they provide a hitch pin so I would not have to order a separate one from 13382? Also, what kind of rust oleum do you recommend for spraying the frame after filing the holes, is there a specific kind of rust oleum? Also it is 100 necessary to use the spacers provided right? Thank you :

Congrats on the purchase of the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C13382 for your 2020 Subaru Crosstrek!
The Thule T2 Pro XTR # TH83JV for 2 bikes or the # TH69TX for 4 bikes actually comes with the AutoAttach system which is an integrated Auto Pin that snaps in place and makes it easier to install the bike rack. You then secure it in your hitch receiver with the anti-rattle device (by turning the knob at the front of the bike rack). I have attached some pictures to assist.
If you were talking about the Thule T2 Classic # TH9045 then these do come with an anti-rattle hitch pin that secures it to the hitch receiver and helps to take out any play from the shank to the receiver.
Since the trailer hitch will be covering the exposed holes you don't necessarily have to cover them with a rust prevention product. Normally we just use some spray paint or a paint marker to cover raw metal to help protect it against rust when we have to modify some metal.
It is absolutely necessary to install the spacers that come in the kit. This is due to the indention in the frame. If you were to install the trailer hitch without the spacers then it would sit at an angle and/or it wouldn't be as secured against the frame as it needs to be.
I have attached an installation video of the trailer hitch on a '19 Crosstrek for you to check out as well as a review videos of the bike racks mentioned above.
