Padded, Ratcheting Hooks

Padded Locking Hooks

The Current's mast has a pair of ratcheting hooks that hold your bikes securely by the top tube. And because they move independently, you can carry bikes of different shapes and sizes. The hooks have soft padding that won't scratch or scuff your bike's paint.

Extra-Wide, Sliding Wheel Cradles

Adjustable Wheel Trays

The extra-wide cradles hold fat bike tires up to 5" wide. They also slide to accommodate bikes with different wheelbases. Hand knobs let you release the cradles to slide along the bike tray and adjust for your specific bike lengths. Each cradle has a ratcheting strap so you can secure your bikes' wheels during transport.

Tilting and Folding Design

Threaded Locking Hitch PinThreaded Locking Hitch Pin

A spring-loaded release lever in the base of the rack lets you tilt the rack down with bikes loaded for cargo area access. You can also use that same lever to fold the rack up against your vehicle for storage. A second spring-loaded release lever lets you fold the mast down so you can fold the rack up.

Complete Security

Threaded Locking Hitch PinThreaded Locking Hitch Pin

The ratcheting hooks have lock cores in the release buttons so you can secure your bikes to the rack. Simply slide the hooks over your bikes' top tubes until they click and lock them in place. There is also a keyed-alike locking hitch pin that secures the rack to your vehicle.

Removable Adapter Sleeve

Adapter Sleeve

The rack has a removable aluminum sleeve that lets you convert the rack for use in 1-1/4" hitches.

This rack is solid and gets the job done. We purchased a pair of e-bikes and needed to upgrade our rack. Very happy with our choice of this rack, etrailer promptly shipped the order and it arrived on the date they estimated which was great because we need to pick up the bikes the next morning. Rack was very well packaged and easy to assemble took 30 to 45 minutes and it was ready to go. First trip picking up the bikes was 80 miles and the rack preformed great. The bikes are held solid on this rack and easy to load and unload. We couldn’t be happier with the purchase. Thanks etrailer

Coming from a Kuat bike rack made out of aluminum this thing is built like a tank. I needed the extra weight capacity of the Swagman for carrying two electric bikes from the Electric Bike company in Newport Beach, CA. The Electric Bike Company also recommended the Swagman for transporting their beach cruisers, since the Swagman secures the bikes by the upper frame rail of the bike and not from the tires like so many other racks. The EBC bikes have fenders and steel baskets, which make a rack that secures bikes by their tires unusable. The Swagman came packaged with zero damage, and went together in a matter of minutes. I put it on my truck to pre-test it out with our two bikes, and to get the bike tire holders properly spaced and tightened down. Our bikes each weigh 53lbs. and this particular Swagman has a max rating for 60lbs. per bike. The Swagman comes with a cable to lock your bikes, a locking receiver pin, and the arm that secures the bikes is lockable. So far, I'm really liking this rack, based upon the quality, security, and price.

Excellent

by:

It's okay, not great. The rack sways quite a bit on the 1 1/4" receiver hitch. Also, the wheel turnbuckles will work their way loose and have caused the bikes to fall into my vehicle.

by:

I had issues with this rack when trying to secure my trek ebike and my GF's regular bike. It took us ages to figure out a way in which to get them both secure by the hooking method the rack offers. Yes, the heavier ebike is closer to the car, but the way in which the hooks work, seemed not to want to attach to the bike's crossbar. We finally got it right, but do make sure you first practice positioning the bikes correctly before leaving on your trip.

Also, for those people out there who are uninformed about the different Clases of racks and hitches (like I was), be sure to match the correct Class (as in Class 1 or 2) of the two products. Since I was ignorant of this, I had a local company install a class 1 hitch, which has a certain weight limitation, and then bought this class 2 rack, also with a different weight limitation. They fit fine, but Swagman will not honor the warranty due to the class 1 hitch. I can use the combo, but there is a risk in doing so. This is not to blame anybody except myself. But I think etrailer could (and probably should) add this kind of info about the two Classes into their product descriptions. Or if they already do, it could be better explained for us novices. Cheers,

Nicholas

Things are working well even with the class differences between rack and hitch. One small issue with the rack is that the straps holding the wheels in place tend to loosen. The hooks work to secure the bikes efficiently, so its not a big issue.

by:

Great rack and happy with the purchase. Has carried our two Bikes as well as 1 Bike and 1 road bike with ease. I like that it flips up when not in use and tilts away when you want to open your tailgate.
we use both features often. It is also easy to lock bikes on rack with supplied keys and you can purchase a lock to the rack to the car. One important note is the weight. It is heavy and requires one strong person or two people to put on and take off. It is also important to get the Swagman DELUXE BAR ADAPTER for bikes without a top cross bar.

Great !!

by:

Fantastic product, with super shipping and order support. Given that it's rated for bikes twice the weight of these 2, I was looking for something really solid, and this delivers! Had to reverse the ordering of the hold-down arms to get a good hold on the bike with a low topbar, and I had to use a bar adapter for the lowstep bike, but it all worked. Some people had expressed concern about the bikes or rack blocking the taillights, but on my Honda Pilot there was no problem. Only issue -- which isn't its fault -- is that my backup camera/collision warning system thinks it's going to hit the bike and alerts when in reverse; don't think there is a workaround there. The rack and bikes do not extend past the width of the Pilot, which is nice. When empty and folded up, it's very compact, and the rear hatch opens with plenty of clearance. Unlike the pictures online, the tiedown straps are black, not vivid yellow, which suits me fine. Very solid and well made!

It’s still fantastic, built like a tank.

ordered bike rack on telephone and received 3 days later (in CA!). it was easy to install on our class c. i have to admit i was a bit nervous when i saw the pics only on instructions but my hubby was fine with it. assembled in no time. put our e bikes on it and now we are ready to roll. unit seems very secure. we did put 2 bungee cords to hold the e bikes rigid to each other as our wheels seemed wobbly. very satisfied with it this far.

Excellent! Works perfectly. We have driven over 20,000 miles with 2 e bikes on it and never had an issue.

by:

Getting the initial adjustment for out bikes took a bit but now it works great. Would be even better if the padded arms had adjustable length versus set, but it meets all my requirements.

by:

I've owned this Swagman rack for a year now and am definitely sold on it for carrying my two e-bikes on the back of my Ford F150. It is rock solid and really does the job nicely.

Its working great for our e-bikes. I have two Swagman bike racks, one for my road bike andone for our two e-bikes. Both work flawlessly.

by:

Great product, good quality, and both my bikes fit perfect. Con: my bikes each are 78 lbs, and the rating is only for 60 lb per bike, so I removed the batteries to help reduce the weight.

by:

Here is the review and the picture is attached. 5 Stars.

“As I have two expensive eBikes, I want to leave little to chance. Although a lot heavier than aluminum racks, I fully trust the Swagman.

I have had 2 issues: 1) one of the nuts that hold the yellow tire straps was lose. I tightened this, and no issues since. But it has made me keep an extra nut, spring and strap with my kit. 2) I transported my bike with a flat tire one time, and it did bounce free, as I did not push down as hard on the ratchet hook, as I should have. Like any equipment, get to know it for optimum use.

I own a Haibike SDURO and my wife has a Pedego Interceptor. They each weigh about 50lbs. Mounted a 2” trailer hitch from [moving company] on the back of my Subaru Outback (least costly… about 2 hour install including trip to [hardware store] for the required metal drill bit).

All good… I would recommend this rack. And etrailer Website videos gave me enough details to feel comfortable I was getting the right model. Thanks!“

by:

Great product - easy to assemble and great for our 2 bicycles, including my wife's Blix e-bike.
The only criticism is, that on the box it says it fits 1 1/4" and 2" hitches - in the brochre it says NOT to use it on 1 1/4" hitches.

Thank you for pointing this out. This can not be used on a Class 1 inch and a quarter hitch, but it can be used on a Class 2 inch and a quarter hitch. The difference between a class 1 and a class 2 inch and a quarter hitch is that the class 2 has about 350 pounds of maximum tongue weight as opposed to the class 1s 200 pounds. Some class 1 hitches have a stop tab inside that blocks class 2 accessories.

by:

Very fast delivery this e bike rack is very sturdy and heavy. Should have no problems carrying my 2 e bikes. It was easy to assemble all bolt holes lined up perfectly

by:

When I purchased my new e-bike I had to upgrade to a new bike rack because my old bike rack could not handle the weight of the new e-bike. Since I had a Swagman XTC2 and was very happy with it, I went with Swagman again and I'm happy I did. The one key fits both the hitch pin lock and the bike hold down hooks. I can fold the rack back with a bike on it and lower the tailgate without having to remove the bike.

by:

I couldn’t be happier with this bike rack. I believe it’s the best rack around for the money. Very sturdy and easy to use. Great value and customer service. Thank You.

by:

Perfect bike rack, being in my 60’s so easy to move from one hitch to another. Worth the money

by:

Easy to build and follow directions. Heavier then expected but really like all the features. There is a little play where the bike and hitch connect. I need to see how to secure that better. Otherwise I feel that this was a solid purchase and if need be have a company that will stand by its product with great customer service.

by:

I have two Lectric Ebikes. This my second attempt to find a bike ramp to carry both bikes. Finally success. Holds and safely secures both. Solid construction. Fits on my 2" truck hitch and the 1-1/4" trailer hitch. Very pleased. See my photos.

by:

An excellent and robust trailer hitch good for 2” or smaller size mounts. My Rize City ebike has sloping cross bar so need a supplemental clamp on horizontal bar for the hitch to hang onto—not a problem.

by:

Solid and sturdy bike rack. Directions are easy to follow for assembly. Take your time putting bikes on the rack to ensure wheel trays are in the best position so the top tube clamp comes down on the bike right at the base of the seat post. Cinch the tire straps down firm then wiggle the wheel to see if you can tighten one more click. Easy to remove from car and put back on, but the folded position keeps it well out of the way. Installed on a Corolla, no issues with ground clearance when parking backed up to curbs or typical driving. With one bike on the outer rack I have no issues opening and accessing the trunk. The fold-away feature would still allow me access even with two bikes on the rack, but I can see where the release handle may be hard to reach with two bikes loaded.

by:

I was disappointed to see how the 2 inch attachment was added to inch and a quarter stock as I wanted two inch. When I asked to return it you said fine but the shipping would be obverse $xxx dollars. It should be made clear that the 2 inch part of the rack is plates built up on the 1 and 1/4 stock. Otherwise rack is well built.

I can see how this was a bit confusing to read, with it stating that the removable adapter sleeve converts the rack for use with 1.25 inch hitches. This rack does have a 1.25 inch receiver tube with an adapter sleeve in order for it to fit a 2 inch hitch. I have sent this information over to our team in order for it to get updated on our site.

Love the Swagman Current 2 Bike platform rack. Easy to assemble. So far very satisfied with rack. Performs as advertised.

by:

The product is great. It's sturdy and not hard to put together. Fits nicely in the hitch on the back of our Rav4 (see pic). We have two e-bikes and they both fit easily on the rack, which will be useful when we go to bike trails that are further away from us.

by:

Service was great! I could not believe how quickly I received the bike rack.
Assembly was easy and we have used it daily since receiving about a week ago. The rack seems to be very robust and sturdy. I feel confident in driving down the road with our Lectric E-bikes mounted on the back of my truck.

by:

it holds the two REI bikes nicely

  • What Hitch Size Does Swagman Current Bike Rack Fit
The Swagman Current Bike Rack part # S64678 that you referenced is designed to fit a 1-1/4 inch hitch or a 2 inch hitch. If you have a sleeve adapter for your 2-1/2 inch hitch to reduce it down to a 2 inch hitch this rack would work great. I attached a review video for this rack for you to check out as well.

  • Is the Swagman Current Bike Rack Stable When Installed in Hitch
While I appreciate your suggestion of ranking it on a scale from 1 to 10, that's not really the best way to do it because some bike racks come with an anti-rattle feature and some do not. Racks with an anti-rattle feature, such as the Swagman, are simply designed to be a 10 from manufacturers and the Current is no different. The Swagman Current # S64678 will fit snugly in a 1-1/4 inch hitch and be a very stable and secure way for you to carry your bikes.

Great question! The math sounds right, but this is not recommended by most rack makers.
