Can Stinger Adapter be Used On Thule Carrier With 1-1/4 Inch Shank To Fit 2 Inch Trailer Hitch
Question:
Im looking at buying this Thule bike rack and the ads description says its for a 1.25inch hitch. I have a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee and the dealer just replaced the OEM hitch with a newer, safer one which has a 2inch hitch. Id like to be able to lock the rack to the hitch via a locking hitch pin. Can you provide me with info, part numbers, and / or advice for adapting this bike rack to this hitch please? Thule T2 916XT Thanks

The Thule Replacement Aluminum Shank Adapter, part # 853-7292 is designed to work with Thule bike carriers # TH954 and # TH914, and allows the 1-1/4 inch stinger on the bike racks to fit a 2 inch trailer receiver.
I called my contact at Thule and they told me that unfortunately there is no adapter available to upgrade a # TH9045 bike carrier, which has a 1-1/4 inch shank to a 2 inch shank to fit your new trailer hitch. They told me the stinger cannot be swapped out either. They said the # TH9045 is built specifically for a 1-1/4 inch receiver opening and cannot be modified.
The only solution I can recommend is to buy a new T2 Bike carrier like part T2 Pro XTR # TH69TX. This carrier is designed for 2 inch trailer hitches only and has a weight capacity of 60 lbs per bike. This bike rack does come with a locking hitch pin which keeps the bike secure in the hitch of your Jeep.
