Video Transcript for Review of Hopkins Wiring - Wire Loom - 39035

Jeff: Hello, everybody. This is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today we're going to take a look at this Hopkins, 10-foot long, three- eighths-inch diameter wire loom. Now this is a split, convoluted three-eighths-inch diameter wire loom that'll easily slip over your wiring and protect it from any damage or the elements. It has a nice plastic sheathing. And if you notice it is split down the whole 10-foot length of the loom.

It has an inner-dimension of three-eights of an inch, outside dimension of a half an inch. And I just wanted to show you what you would use this for. Here's an example of a plug that would plug into a light on your trailer, and then you'll have your wiring come out of that. So if you want to protect that wiring, what you can do is just find the split portion, and then just go ahead and insert your wiring all the way into that split portion. And you could go as far as you want, you can go the whole length of wire, or you can just go part of the way and you can see once you get it in there, it'll protect the wiring, the section you need it to. And again, if you have to go more just to go ahead and pry it apart, and then just slide your wiring in there.

And again, that goes all down your wiring to protect from any damage. But that should do it for the review on this Hopkins, 10-foot long, three-eighths-inch diameter wire loom.

Restoring a 1991 2 horse trailer. etrailer had all the exact lights made by Peterson, 35 years later.

What I was looking for

works for my needs

by:

One year ago, I installed the wire loom to contain and protect the trailer light wires on my newly restored 1969 boat trailer. They provide a professional finished look to the wiring job. They were easily installed from connector and down the frame. I would recommend and purchase again.

by:

Everything fit well. Videos are a tremendous help!

by:

Great for organizing wires. Good quality loom with split to help make the installation easy. The split stays closed but I also periodically wrapped it along the length with cable ties and to attach it to structure to make a neat install. I keep a stash in different sizes so I always have something on hand for various wiring projects.

by:

It worked great to cover bare wires that ran through the inside of my trailer.

by:

Excellent item. I just thought the price was a little high for the guage wire you get with the harness. I definetly like the idea of not having to run wires over the top of the car. Watch the you tube video to get how to route the wires to keep them away from any moving parts. Also order 35 ft of 3/8' wire loom item # 39035 to help protect the wires. Installed this item on a 2014 Honda CR-v EX. Very east to install.

by:

I can only really say that this wire loom does its intended job.
Keep in mind, if you intend to put more than 3 wires in it or hope to fit wire splices into it, size up to a bigger diameter.
I used a closed end socket wrench to force the wire into the split as the loom was pretty stiff

by:

Perfect solution for protecting trailer wires.

All the products are fabulous!! Thanks for following up with me. They are in use regularly.

by:

I bought this to cover a 5 wire brake light harness. Wish I went a size bigger for 5 wires. Should work fine for most 4 wire harnesses. Good product. Performs as advertised

by:

Used this on a trailer re-wire project to protect trailer light and brake wires. Works great.

by:

All items in the order for trailer wiring components were exactly what I ordered and all items were delivered promptly. Good communication from Etrailer with reasonable prices, and FREE SHIPPING!! Nice.

by:

Bought to use with 4 pin wiring! Oops, to small!

Kip, thank you for your review. If you are looking for a larger diameter wire loom I recommend part # 459075-1. This wire look is 1/2 which is the size we normally use on our installs. This is sold by the foot, to get the length you need.

by:

What can I say...it’s a wire loom. Does what it’s supposed to do. Seems to have held up just fine. The trailer I used it on is stored inside so I cannot speak to UV resistance.

by:

Exactly as anticipated

by:

Seems there should be a splitter/spreader included to save your fingers but....that's just me. Good product.

by:

Worked for re-wiring of trailer lights.

by:

As always Etrailer has come through. My order to completely wire my boat trailer came as promised. I've ordered several times and have always been completely satisfied. Thanks Pat

by:

worked out well for my 4 wire harness. could have been a touch larger dia.

by:

I bought this item to replace some on my box trailer that was deteriorated. It seems to be good quality worked out perfectly for my application.

by:

Quality loom, has not broken down yet.

You need to route the 12V power wire from the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with # C59DR up to the battery under the hood of your 2022 Ford Maverick, which we demonstrate how to do in the linked installation video. If you are wanting to secure the wiring on your trailer and keep it secure I recommend using a wiring junction box like part # 38656 on your trailer. It is possible to route the wiring in the Roadmaster Universal Hy-Power Diode Wiring Kit, # RM-154, through the frame of your 2010 Honda CR-V if the frame rails are hollow all the way through (front to rear) and if there is easy access to the frame rail from the front to the back of the vehicle. I have included a video below. Our installer in the video does pull the harness through the frame rail using a wire pull similar. He first routes it through the back of the frame and the wire...

Do note that all auto makers recommend not towing anything for the first few hundred miles on the car to allow for proper break-in without putting extra stress on the vehicle. Draw-Tite Class III hitch # 75237 is an excellent choice since it offers a 4500-lb capacity, providing a healthy safety margin. For a wiring harness part # 118498 is a fine...

  • Tips for Routing a Power Wire from the Battery to Trunk for Trailer Wiring on a 2011 Buick Lacrosse
There are a few methods that people use when they need to run a power wire from the vehicle battery to the rear of the vehicle. One method involves routing the wire as much as possible through the frame. What you would need to do first is determine if the frame has a hole in which a wire can be run and if there is space enough for it. You would need a long rigid and skinny object, like a coat hanger to run through the frame, tie off the wire to it, and then pull it back through. This...

  • What Gauge Wire Can the 3/8 Inch Wire Loom Hold?
3 gauge wire is about 0.229 inches in diameter, so Wire Loom 3/8" Diameter like # 39035 will give it enough space for safety without further restricting the wire for heat dispersion. It will also avoid pinching or crimping the wire. You can use the Metal Loom Clamp - 1/2" # A0500 to secure it if desired. Technically this loom could hold up to 00 gauge wire (0.365 inches diameter).

  • Is Wiring Conduit a Good Idea When Running Wiring of Roof Vent Fan Through Ceiling
The flexible plastic tube you are referring to is known as wiring conduit and is a really smart idea to protect wiring. I'd recommend using some 3/8 inch diameter conduit like the part # 39035 when running the wiring just as an insurance policy to keep the wiring more protected.

  • Compatibility Of 1/2 Inch Loom Clamps With 3/8 Inch Loom
Yes, you can use Metal Loom Clamp - 1/2" # A0500 with Wire Loom 3/8" Diameter # 39035. It will secure the loom to your frame but it will not clamp tightly around it. If you want a tight fit at the clamps you can use 3/4" x 60' Electrical Tape to close the loom at that location and make it your desired thickness for clamping. If you want a perfect fit, I recommend the Wire Loom, 1/2" Diameter (per Foot) # 459075-1.

  • How Do I Wire In Electric Brakes If My Brake Controller Is Not Detecting My Trailer?
Yes, you will need to run a wire from the front of your trailer to the wires on your brake assemblies. Each brake assembly should have 2 wires coming out of the back. Attach one of these wires to the trailer for the ground. The other wire will receive power. It doesn't matter which wire you use for which purpose. You will want to use 10 gauge wire. We sell this by the foot in part # 10-1-1. In addition to wire, you may need connectors, zip-ties, wire clips, electrical tape, and ground screws....
