Video Transcript for Wesbar 4-Pole Flat Connector with Jacketed Cable Review

Hey, everybody Adam here with etrailer. Today, we're gonna be taking a look at the west bar jacketed four pole trailer connection. So the one that we have right here is about 14 foot in length, but we're also gonna have a 10 foot, an eight foot and a four foot. It's all gonna have a 14 gauge wire on the inside. And the diameter of this jacket is gonna be about 0.4 of an inch. So now all of these trailer wearings come with jackets.

This is just gonna look a little bit cleaner, but it does have a nice little shape to it. So a little bit bigger down here. So whenever you are pulling it off, one, it gives you plenty of room to be able to wrap around it. And since it's a little bit bigger here, it's gonna be kind of easier to pull it out. If you want the easiest four-pole that is the easiest to disconnect from the other side, the Hopkins has an easy pole, which just has a little circle right here.

And that's probably gonna be the only one that's a little bit easier, but it does not come with this jacket. I really like the jacket just because it's gonna protect it and looks a lot easier. And since we're using a junction box, it makes for a really, really easy and clean connection. So if you follow us down, we basically go on the inside of this tube, all the way to our junction box which is right up here by the trailer. So we're gonna have four different wires that come in here cause it's a four pole.

So if you follow me, we'll so you exactly what it looks like in the junction box, just because I like the junction boxes, they're a little bit cleaner. And if you're adding six accessories and stuff like that, it'll make a nice clean spot to be able to know exactly where everything's going. So we have the jacketed side of our trailer connection going through our junction box and we're gonna have four different wires. So we're gonna have our yellow, which is gonna be our left turn signal and our brake lights. We're gonna have our green is gonna be right.

And our brake lights, we're gonna have white, which is gonna be our ground. And then we're gonna have our brown as well, which is just gonna be your running lights, your taillights and everything else like that, including your license plate lights. So all of these kind of go in here and if you do want to grab a junction box, we do have these here at etrailer. These are just pretty much the cleanest way to wire up your trailer. The only thing that I would add to this is just a little dust cover just because it's gonna be exposed. So if you don't have a great place to put it, I mean, some people just kind of hide it underneath here, but it's not gonna be protected. So there is a dust cover specifically for this and I do recommend that you get. So now that everything's good, it is really smart to check and make sure it works before you button everything up. So we just have a little test box here. This is gonna mimic hooking up to our vehicle. So now as you can see, we do have some lights and stuff turning on. So we have everything turned on, but we're gonna test the functions. So let's start with the right turn signal. Then we're gonna go to the left. And then we want to make sure that our brake lights are working, which everything is good. So once you go through all those checks, you can button everything up and we're pretty much done with the install. If you already have your trailer and it's not really that clean when it comes to wiring and you don't really plan on putting a junction box in, all you're really gonna need to do is just grab some 14 gauge wire and some heat shrink butt connectors. And I would get some loom and we also have some loom hangers. So you're gonna run all this all the way back on the underside of your trailer, if you get on the inside of the tube, great. But a tube doesn't really work that well because it's a lot of tube, it's a lot of wire to fish through there. So you have everything that you need to hook up your trailer regardless of what kind of setup you plan on going for. Whether you go with the junction box or not, we're gonna have to run these wires back to our lights. And as you can see, we have a nice clean look. We got some loom, we got some holders. And then of course we got some lights. If you guys need lights, we've got those too, but the cleaner, the better when it comes to my trailer. So if you really want to make it nice and clean, we have everything you need to do that. All in all, I'm a fan of this one just because it has the thick little casing on the outside. And it just looks a little bit better, it matches my trailer. But if you are looking for one that's gonna be a little bit easier to pull apart, the Hopkins has one that just has a little circle on the inside, which we went over before. That one's gonna be a little bit easier, but this is pretty much checking all the boxes when it comes to trailer connections, and that is gonna do it for our look at the west bar jacketed four pole trailer connection..

Wesbar 4-Pole Flat Connector w/ Jacketed Cable - Trailer End - 14' Long - W787274

Average Customer Rating:  4.9 out of 5 stars   (60 Customer Reviews)

This 4-wire flat, trailer-end connector includes an 14' long, jacketed cable with stripped, color-coded, 14-gauge wires for easy installation.

We installed this cord on a tilt bed trailer that we use to transport scissor lifts. We have multiple trucks that pull this trailer and the receptacle on these trucks are in different locations. This required using a 4 flat extension on many of them and as you would expect, the extensions come up missing and of course no one knows what happened to them. We tried every trailer supply store in the Phoenix area and no one carries a cord like this. Because this one is 14' long, we can cut off what we don't need and wire it into the J-box on the trailer and make it long enough that we don't need an extension. Great product.

Works great, no change in my opinion.

Exactly what I wanted to replace a cable that has suffered from being dragged on the street while I drive (I am new to Trailer Life). The website is very nicely organized and loads up quickly. Order tracking was also convenient. Now I know why everyone tells me that Etrailer is the best source for trailer parts.

Just received today so haven't installed. Looks heavy duty and the quality is evident when the package was opened.

by:

Heavy duty cable. Perfect length to go from factory 4-pole flat connector for after market lighting on head ache rack on Ram 2500 SWB.

Good as new. Working perfectly.

etrailer is by far the best place for trailer parts, the trailer cord with molded end and protective cover was very high quality and the price was very reasonable.

Great, it will probably out last the trailer

The Wesbar 4-Pole Flat connector w/Jacketed Cable has enough wire to reach the rear of most trailers so no wiring connectors are needed at the tongue of the trailer where most wiring problems occur.

by:

As with anything, you get what you pay for. I have been constantly repairing/trouble shooting a lesser quality trailer wiring kit. This is a far superior quality product. This 14 gauge wire will save you time and grief that the wimpy 22 gauge kits commonly sold will do. In addition, the plug end fully encloses the wiring to prevent wire fatigue and breaking at the connector. Hooked this up, trailer lights working again! No disappointments here. Thanks e trailer!

by:

I am very pleased with the wiring I received. It has a nice thick outer casing which should prove to be quite protective, particularly from the elements. I did add an additional shell I found on[line] which is a coated metal conduit. The etrailer wiring fit into it perfectly (with a little boost from a squirt of silicone). It's not that the etrailer wiring was bad - anything but - it's that we have particularly determined mice (we live in the country) who have eaten through wire coatings in the past, even thick ones. Together - unstoppable. This is the third time I have had to rewire that trailer (because of the mice) and hopefully the last.

by:

We installed this on a small trailer. It didn't need to be this long, but we just cut off what we didn't need. Works great.

by:

This trailer plug-in kit is great. I've had it a year and it has stayed flexible even when -20 degrees. Highly recommended for new or replacement of trailer wiring.

by:

Just installed this cable on my trailer. The jacket is very thick and looks as if it will last s long time. No more using a whole of electrical take to protect the wires. Plug seems to be very tough too. Delivery was quick only 3 days with standard shipping. I will buy again when I rewire my other trailers.

by:

This item met my needs to a T. Wanted a 12 foot four pin product but could only find an 8 foot listed. Called the help desk and the lady on the phone told me the had a 14 foot product and the item number. Place the order and received the item in a very timely manner. If you need trailer parts this the place to go.

by:

After years of using standard flat 4 wiring harnesses and breaking wires, I decided to look for a professional moulded plug and jacketed wire set. That is when I came across this product at etrailer. The product was packed well and arrived quickly. I will be replacing my current trailer wiring with this item on my trailer and getting a second product for a friend's trailer in the spring.

by:

Nice heavy cable and end. Better than the unjacketed style.

by:

Fast shipping, excellent looking harness. I'll be installing it this weekend.

Great !!

by:

Excellent product! Solves the issue of water intrusion from the plug to the wiring harness. No more cleaning corrosion from the backside of the connector. Coupled with the Wesbar Dust Cover to keep the pins free of contamination, this is a reliable combination that will last years.

by:

Products from E-Trailer are top quality and are exact fit.

by:

Amazing. I replaced my troublesome original wiring with this. Heavy duty. Been perfect for a year now. I exoect it to last the lifetime of my trailer.

by:

I used this cable to rewire my trailer. The cord is molded at the connector and was excellent quality. I used this with a dust cover and junction box. The rewiring job came out fantastic.

by:

When I received the trailer light cord it was more heavy duty than expected very good-looking product.
Also,customer service was excellent !
I needed help with tracking they help me promptly and found my package .

by:

Product received as advertised in a timely manner. Jacketed cable and the available dust cover accessory are major points to this purchase.

by:

Don`t waste your time & money with the" el cheapo" flat pigtails!
Put this on and your done, it will out last most trailers.

by:

Excellent product and very effective in overcoming the wear and tear that trailer wiring is exposed to.

by:

The product is working great yet! I had wonderful service when I first ordered the wiring as well.

  • Recommended Trailer Lights and Parts Needed to Install With Wesbar 4 Pole Flat Connector
When using the Wesbar # W787274 you can just run a jumper wire for the running lights on the other side of the trailer; you're likely going to want to split the jacketing so that you can run the tail/blinker/brake light wires down each individual side of the trailer to allow for easier installation. If you need butt connectors you can use the Deka Heat Shrink Butt Connectors # DW05745-5 to make your wiring connections, and you'll need 14 gauge wiring to match the Wesbar harness. For lights...

Bargain-priced import trailers often use lower-grade parts that tend to wear out faster than better aftermarket products. This is as true for wiring items like your 4-pole harness as it is for other mechanical parts like bearings. We can help. There are also 5-pole connectors like # HM47910 that add one additional circuit that can be used for trailer brakes or another function. Then there are also wishbone style harnesses that have...

  • Wesbar 4 Pole Flat Connector Damage Repair or Replace for Trailer
I would recommend replacing the entire cable harness to the weather proof connection. Wesbar 4-Pole Flat Connector w/ Jacketed Cable # W787268 is an 8' cable but we do offer a 14' option # W787274 if you need the additional length. In my opinion it is never a good idea to try and replace a connection end. They are almost never weather tight and will sometimes come apart when in use.

  • How to Get Trailer Wiring From One Side of Running Light Circuit to Other Side of Trailer
Since the Wesbar 4-Pole Flat Connector w/ Jacketed Cable # W787274 is 14 feet long and you need 13 feet to get to the taillights on each side of the trailer you'd have enough wire for each color aside from the brown wire. You'd want to run it to one side of the vehicle and then use a jumper wire like part # 12-1-1 to get the circuit to the other side. The # 12-1-1 is sold by the foot.

I used a wire gauge and some digital dial calipers to get the measurements that you need for Wesbar 4-Pole Flat Connector w/ Jacketed Cable, # W787274. The copper wire gauge using the gauge measurer fell between 14 and 16 for all wires so 16 gauge is what I would call it. The diameter of the jacketed wire is 0.4 inches measured with the dial calipers.
