Converting Hydraulic Brakes on M105a2 Military Trailer to Electric Brakes

Question:

I recently bought a M105a2 military cargo trailer. It is currently equipped with air over hydraulic brakes and I would like to convert it to simple electric drum brakes. I wanted to know if this is possible without changing the axle and wheels or going with a pricey electric over hydraulic setup. Are there electric brakes that will fit with the current wheel hubs and hydraulic drums?

To get you the correct fit for your M105a2 trailer, I need to know what is currently on your trailer. We've seen a wide variety of axle capacities from 5,200 lbs to 10,000 lbs. If you can help me with drum/hub dimensions, I can see what we have that may be compatible with your specific trailer.

For instance, if you have 12-1/4 x 3-3/8 inch drums, then the Electric Trailer Brake Kit w/ Dust Shields - Self-Adjusting - 12-1/4" - Left/Right Hand - 10K # AKEBRK-10 would be a great option.

If you have 12 x 2 inch drums then the Electric Trailer Brake Kit - Self-Adjusting - 12" - Left and Right Hand Assemblies - 5.2K to 7K # AKEBRK-7-SA would be a great option.

Once you determine the hub/drum size most hydraulic hubs will be compatible with electric brakes if they are still in good shape. If not, then pull the bearings and let me know the numbers on the face of each bearing as well as the seal and I'll see what hubs are compatible as a replacement.

Then you can use the Deka Heat Shrink Butt Connector - 12-10 Gauge - Nylon Insulation - Yellow - Qty 5 # DW05745-5 along with # 12-1-1 wire to connect to the Epicord 7-way with junction box # 277-000141. You can use ring terminals # 44-5310A, wire loom # 39035, and clamp # A0500 to clean up and hold the wiring.
