Video Transcript for Wesbar Wiring - Trailer Connectors - W002230 Review

Today we're going to be taking a looking at part number W002230, this is the 4 way flat connector with 30' of wiring for your trailer end. If you're going to rewire your trailer for a four way flat connector, this unit's going to be perfect for you. Again, the overall length of wiring that we have is going to be 30'. The white wire's going to be our ground wire, that's going to give us a 3' length. We're going to have the four way flat connector at one end and then we're going to have our exposed wires at the other end. The wires are all ready going to be stripped here at the end, you just got to remove that coating on there and that's going to expose about 1/2" of stripped back wiring right there.

If you don't need the entire length you can simply cut the wire to fit your application. This wiring's going to feature a wishbone design so that means that the green and brown wires are going to be ran together and the yellow and brown wires are going to be ran together and they're going to be wishboned or separated coming out of the back of plug. The green and brown is going to go to the passenger side of your trailer, yellow and brown is going to go to the driver side. Your green and yellow wires are going to provide the signals or the functions for your stop and turn signals. Then the brown wires are going to be for your tail lights. When it comes to the wire gauge, the green and brown, and the yellow and brown wires are going to be 18 gauge and then our ground wire's going to be a 16 gauge wire.

That's going to do it for our review of part number W002230, this is the four flat connector wishbone styled trailer end wiring from Wesbar. .

This trailer wiring kit is PHENOMENAL! I was having trouble with another kit because the wire gauge was far too small causing poor conductivity resulting in partial to lack of running lights. This is a QUALITY harness and all of my trailer lights work perfect now! Thank you so much for not selling junk like many of the competition. Will always go here for future trailer needs! Thank you!

This is the best wiring harness I have ever used. The wiring is thicker and I have experienced ZERO problems with it. Thanks very much for checking back with me.

by:

Wiring harness is of a quality build. Happy with the fit etc. My only complaint was the 30' harness was only 27'. My trailer is 27'. I had to make up the extra 3 feet to finish wiring in the lights

Still working perfectly!

Wiring worked like a charm. Easy to install. Take the time to do it right (use shrink tape and liquid electrical tape on every connection) and it will last a long time. I'm in the water 3x per week and haven't had a problem.

Still works great. Thanks for following up.

by:

very high quality connector. i would highly recommend it!

by:

Well made harness. Shipped quickly and packaged well.

by:

Really quality wire, most cheap trailer wire has just a few strands of cheap wire and it breaks easily. This trailer wire is the real stuff. I am an electrician and know quality wire. As the old saying goes, you get what you pay for. etrailer will be my only source for parts. I buy and repair utility trailers. I want to send the buyer off with quality lights etc. Lights are one of the highest fail parts on a trailer.

by:

Good wires. No frame clips, ground terminator or cladding

by:

Great price for the harness I needed. Reasonable shipping.

Working great. Needed a harness with the extra length, couldnt find it locally really didnt want to do any splices.

by:

I ordered multiple items from etrailer and the experience was perfect. The products arrived exactly as described with super fast shipping (standard option). The communication was frequent and thorough. This company knows good customer service. I didn't have any issues, but don't have any worries with this company if any come up.

by:

Product arived as expected. Looks like the pulled it right out of the ad pages. High quality on all items not low quality items like others with this good of a price. A ?? for e-trailer.

  • Recommended 4-Way Trailer Connection Wiring On Sea Doo Challenger 180 Trailer
For your Sea Doo Challenger 180 Trailer, I recommend the 4-Flat Connector Wishbone Style - Trailer End # W002230. This harness is a wishbone which means there are separate tail/running light wires sent to each side of the trailer so no jumper wire is required across your frame. I've attached a video of this installation for you and have also attached a wiring article to assist. If you would rather splice your 8 wire system into a 4 way connector, you can use the Hopkins 4-Way Flat Trailer...

  • Connecting 4-Way on Boat Trailer With 7-Wires to New 4-Way
Hi Joseph; you don't want to add a 7-way as the wires on your 4-way won't have connections for a 7-way. Your 7 wires are three ground, left turn/stop, right turn/stop, and two taillights. What you'll want to do is use a wishbone style 4-way, the 4-Flat Connector Wishbone Style # W002230. The three white wires are ground, the two brown are taillights, the green is right turn and the yellow is left turn. One of the white wires will be grounded to the frame so you'll splice the other two...

  • Recommended Blazer LED Submersible Boat Trailer Tail Lights Installation
For the Blazer Trailer lights, you will want the Blazer Trailer Tail Light - 6 Function - LED - Submersible - 7 Diodes # C7493RTM for the passenger side and the Blazer Trailer Tail Light - 7 Function - LED - Submersible - 9 Diodes # C7483RTM for the driver's side. That 7th function and the extra diodes are for the license plate light. These two parts are designed to be a pair. The installation video I've included will show you how to mount these lights and you will want to use the Deka...

  • Do Diodes Need to be Replaced for Roadmaster Wiring Kit # RM-154 on a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee
If you are using the Roadmaster Universal Hy-Power Diode Wiring Kit # RM-154 then I have some steps you can take to see what is wrong. It could very well be the diodes that you are using. Try using your tester on the wiring right before it enters the diodes if you are getting a signal before they enter the diodes but not a signal afterwards then you need to replace the diodes with part # RM-794. Another possibility is that the wiring itself is bad. You can use the Wesbar # W002230 to...

  • With Running Lights or Brake Lights On Turn Signals on Trailer Alternate
Tail light ground wires are usually white so that doesn't seem odd. This sounds like a ground issue. Ground problems normally show up when there is more draw on a system such as when you have the running lights on and then use another function like a turn signal or brake light. Make sure that the vehicle side and trailer side connectors are clean and free of corrosion inside and out. The main connector grounds should be attached to clean and corrosion free bare metal surfaces. The light...

  • Availability of 4 Pole Trailer Wiring Harness With 5 Circuits
What you are describing is known as a wishbone style trailer wiring harness. Instead of carrying the running light circuit on a single brown wire as usual, the circuit is split into two wires, one yellow/brown and the other yellow/green. This allows one leg of the circuit to run down each side of the trailer. The harnesses are available in several lengths. 20 foot, part # A20WB 30 foot, part # W002230 35 foot, part # A35W42B You can view an installation video by clicking the provided link.

  • Difference of 4-Way Trailer Connector with 4 Wires Compared to 4-Way with 5 Wires
The 4-Pole Trailer End Connector # 18004 is meant as a replacement for a trailer side 4-Way connector that has been damaged. That is why it is so short at 12 inches long. This is a standard 4-Way with one white ground wire, one brown running light wire, one yellow left turn/brake light wire, and one green right turn/brake light wire. If the one you are replacing has 2 running light wires then you would want a wishbone harness, # W002230. I have included video reviews of both harnesses for you.

  • Replacement Wishbone Wesbar 4-Way Harness
Sounds like you are looking for the part # W002230. This is a wishbone Wesbar 4-way connector that has two wires for the running light circuit (one for each side of the trailer) and the standard wires beyond that. The white wire is the ground so you would just need to run it to the trailer frame and it would work just fine.

  • Is a Longer Version of Wesbar 002402 Trailer Wiring Harness Available
Would a 20 foot harness work for you? If so, Wesbar offers a 20 foot version as part # 002220. This is not a wishbone style harness. You'll need to run the harness down one side to the taillight and then daisy chain over to the opposing taillight. A wishbone style is also available as part # W002230. A wishbone style harness splits the running lamp circuit into two legs so you and run the left turn/brake lamp circuit and one running lamp circuit down the driver's side and the right turn/brake...

  • Utility Trailer Light Wiring Diagram and Required Parts
I have attached two basic trailer light wiring diagrams of utility trailers for you to check out. The difference between the two diagrams is the type of wiring harness that is being used. Diagram 1 shows a traditional wiring layout with jumper wires to provide running light functions for both sides of the trailer and Diagram 2 shows a wishbone harness. The wishbone harness has two running light wires, one for each side of the trailer. Diagram 2 is the preferred method and it is more common...

  • Heavy Gauge Trailer 4-Way Wiring, 16 Gauge
The longest 4-way harness we offer that has all 16 gauge wire is the Wesbar Harness part # W787274 which is 14 feet long. For one that is 30 feet long that has a 16 gauge ground wire and 18 gauge signal wires you would want the part # W002230.

  • What Length Wiring Harness Is Needed For a Boat Trailer Measuring 22-1/2' From Tail Light To Tongue?
With having 22'6" from your tail light location to the tongue on your trailer I recommend going with at least a 30' wiring harness. The additional length is needed so you will be able to route your wiring on the frame to the lights and to have enough to connect to the tow vehicle. We do have a 30', 4-Way Flat Harness # W002230 or a 40', 5-Way Harness # A40W5B depending if your boat trailer has a surge brake coupler with electric lockout. I recommend having 2' of wiring past the tongue so...

  • How Do I Connect Trailer Wiring With Wire Colors That Do Not Match and 5 Wires To 4-Way?
Your trailer's 4-way wiring is what they call a wishbone harness. They basically split the running lights to run it down either side of the trailer without running a jump wire across. To splice into your new 4-way, you will connect this way. Green to Green White to White Yellow to Yellow And then you will put both green/brown and yellow/brown to Brown. This will be a 2 to 1 connection.

  • What Wire Gauge is Used on the Wesbar 4-Way Trailer End Wiring Harness
I spoke with my contact at Wesbar about wishbone trailer wiring harness # W002230. He stated that the ground wire is 16 gauge and the others are 18 gauge. I have included a link to a video showing a typical installation of this wiring for you.

  • How to Extend Short Ground Wire on 4-Pole Wishbone Harness
Wishbone 4-pole harnesses like # A35W42B, # A20WB, # W002230 and # A10-4225VP usually do have a short ground wire because most trailer frames are steel and they conduct well enough that a ground wire attached near the tongue will provide sufficient ground even for lights mounted all the way at the back of the trailer. On the other hand if you have an aluminum frame trailer that does NOT conduct electricity nearly as well as a steel frame then you might need to extend that 2- or 3-foot...

  • Recommended Butt Connectors to Use with Wesbar 4-Flat Connector # W002230
The Wesbar 4-Flat Connector Wishbone Style # W002230 referenced in your question features 18 gauge wire (and 16 gauge for the ground wire). With this in mind the Deka Butt Connectors # 05730-5 that you also mentioned will work great, as it is designed for 22 to 18 gauge wire. It includes 5 connectors. For a more secure and durable connection you might also consider heat shrink butt connectors like # DW05743-5 instead. These will also work with the Wesbar harness and includes 5 connectors.

  • Can I Use the Quick Splice Connectors to Install a New Wishbone 4-Flat Trailer Harness
Yes. There's no reason you can't use something like the Quick Splices - Self-Stripping Connector - Closed Port - 14-16-18 Gauge - Blue - Qty 1 # SWC502905-1 to install the # W002230 on your trailer. The # W002230 uses 18 gauge wiring, so the # SWC502905-1 would be the recommended quick splices assuming that your trailer also uses 14, 16 or 18 gauge wiring. I've also linked all of our quick splice connectors to this answer in case you find that you need something sized differently.

  • Determining Speed Limit of Sea-Doo Trailer
Most likely the maximum speed of your 2012 Sea-Doo Trailer is simply limited by the type of tires that are mounted on the trailer. Most trailer tires have a maximum speed of 65 mph unless otherwise listed on the sidewall. There may also be local laws that dictate a reduced speed limit for vehicles towing a trailer that you will want to check. If you are looking to replace the tires on your trailer, please let me know what size you have mounted and I will be happy to recommend some that...
