Video Transcript for Deka Wiring 16-4B-1 Review

Today, we're going to review part number 16-4B-1. This is the Deka bonded four wire per foot. This is a parallel primary wire that has four parallel conductors bonded together by this thermal plastic insulation and each conductor is independently color coded for easy identification. Basically, can see that it has the normal four wire color coding. The green, which is your right turning brake wire. Your yellow which is your left turning brake wire. Your brown, which is your tail lights, and your white, which is your ground. Each wire is a 16 gauge and again, on this part number, the price is per foot.

I have a foot of wire right here so you can order as many feet as you like. This is designed for use with 50 volts or less. That should do it for the review on part number 16-4B-1, the Deka bonded four wire per foot. .

Wire came with cut insulation

This review covers an earlier purchase of backing plates and brake assemblies for my double axle 16' trailer as well as new wiring for this trailer after repeatedly repairing the wiring purchased from a local store. The brakes work perfectly and the new wiring is so much better than my previous locally purchased wiring. The only problem I have now is remembering to adjust the brakes between the loaded and unloaded trips. Makes the tires last longer!!

Wires are holding up great!! No more breaks or disconnects. This project completes a refitting of my 16 ft car hauler. Earlier parts included brake shoes and backing plates and a new trailer to truck power cable. Very satisfied with all of the items purchased from e-trailer.

Your description on line was the best of anywhere I found. I'm going to make 2 wiring harnesses for my pickup. I'll be towing it behind my motorhome so 1 harness will be from the front bumper to the rear of the bed for a light bar I'm making. Then the 2nd harness will be from the front bumper of the pickup to the rear of my motorhome. I also ordered 2 12" 4 wire loops for each end of the 2 harnesses I'll be making.

They worked out great!

Quality products that allows us to our trailer to automotive OEM standards vs the bound to fail system of the original trailer manufacturer

by:

Worked out well and has held up.

by:

Thick heavy gauge wire, with stout insulation.
Not like the thin stuff in a harbor freight light kit.
This is something you will be proud to put on your trailer.

Yet another part purchased for my 10K lb trailer build.
I am planning on mounting a waterproof junction box for my wiring, these wires will be used to power all of the lights on the trailer. I will run separate wires for the trailer brakes and battery. The quality of this wire looks to be pretty nice.

by:

Having all your wiring color coded and matching for accessories on your camper or trailer is a must as far as im concerned. This roll does just that and makes repairs and connections so much easier. It also prevents shorts and incorrect wiring that alone makes it a must have.

by:

Fast delivery - Ordered on 9/29/17 - Received on 10/4/17
As a benefit, wire is 16G rather then the normal 20G you find in the stores that have ready made harnesses.
NOTE for etrailer managers. I am a technical person by nature and speaking only for myself, when I buy and pay for a specific amount of something, I expect to get that amount. I'm not pinching pennies with you here; BUT, I bought 30' of this wire and when I received it, I measured it twice and came up with 29' 10". Most places I've dealt with in the past where I buy wire, angle iron, etc.. would give you a couple of inches or more than you ordered versus a couple of inches shorter than what was ordered. Very stingy in my opinion and not fair to your customers.

by:

Excellent product, quality, and exact wire gauge I was looking for. I love that I could buy the exact length I needed without buying an entire spool of wire. I'm using this wire on my utility trailer. I needed to lengthen the trailer wire that connects to the vehicle. I covered the wire with split loom and bought new connectors for both truck and trailer. It looks and functions great! Thanks!

This helped make rewiring my trailer very easy .

super fast shipping. exactly what was needed to get my flatbed trailer back on the road. Prices were great and customer support is fantastic. thanks for all the help and great products.

by:

The wire, rollers and the fenders were all received in good condition; and are installed on the trailer.

Your site was easy to order from, the price was good; and thank you for your promptness in delivering the order.

Online ordering was very easy. Customer service emailed updates every step of the delivery process and allowed me to track my order very easily. Everything came in as expected and in great shape. My first experience with Etrailer has been very pleasant! Thank you!

by:

As always my order was received in record time. The products are great quality with some of the best customer service I have ever received. Etrailer goes above and beyond to provide great products as well as very informative technical information.

by:

Excellent new wire that I used to completely rewire the trailer. Very good quality, good insulation, nice fresh multi-strand copper wire inside. Superb! Very satisfied!

by:

Hi, I am sorry to give you a not so good review but I feel I must be honest. When I received my wire it was in a rat nest I spent some time unknotting it and some of the wires were not connected to the bonded 4 wire by at least 11/2 foot. however the shipping was fast. Thank You David S.

by:

Great for running to back and front of the flat bed for the two sets of brake lights.

by:

best prices and service, etrailer is a one stop place to get it all.

by:

I ordered 40' of this for re-wiring my 15' trailer (running it down both sides). This wire is solid yet easy to work with, i.e. separating out an individual wire for splicing, bending, snaking inside trailer framing, etc. This wire is color coded with the 4 standard colors for trailer wiring.

  • How to Wire Trailer Lights to Wiring with Wire Colors Red, Black, and Green
Trailer lights like yours have two brightness levels. The lower brightness which is for the running lights (the red wire you mentioned), and a brighter intensity for brake and turn signal (the green you mentioned). The black wire would then need to be grounded. On your trailer wiring the yellow and green wires are the stop turn circuits for each side of the trailer. Green is right turn/stop and yellow is left turn/stop. Both of these get ran to the green wires on your lights. The brown...

  • Wire Color Functions of Trailer Taillight that Use Red, White and Black Wires
Under normal circumstances the white wire of the light is the ground circuit, the red wire is for the running light circuit and then the black wire is for the stop/turn circuit for each side of the trailer. On the left side the black wire gets ran to the yellow wire and then on the right to the green.

  • Trailer Tail Light Wire Functions and Trailer Connector Wire Functions
You have what is called a wishbone connector on your trailer. These connectors have 2 running light wires, one for each side of the trailer (that is what the brown wires are). Yellow is left turn and brake lights, green is right turn and brake lights. And like I mentioned above, the brown wires are the running lights. The tail light with the yellow wire should be the left side and the yellow wire is for turn signal/brake lights. The tail light with green is the right side and the green...

Sounds like your camper uses RV standard wire colors which are brown for right turn/stop which would run to green on the 4-way, red for left turn/stop which would run to the yellow of the 4-way, green for taillight which would run to brown of the 4-way, and white for ground which would run to white on the 4-way wiring.

  • How Do Trailer Wires with Two Wires Attach to 4-Way Trailer Wiring
Based on the colors of the wires that are on the lights you bought for your trailer is sounds like the assemblies ground through the mounting hardware, the brown wire is the running light circuit, and the red wire is the stop turn circuit. A traditional 4 wire trailer setup has a stop/turn circuit that runs to either side of the trailer. One for the passenger side (typically green wire) and one to the driver side (typically yellow). So that's two of the four wires. The white wire will...

  • Recommended Testing Method to Determine Trailer Wiring Functions
Usually a 4-pole trailer connector will have a white wire as ground, green wire for right turn/stop, yellow wire for left turn/stop and brown for both sides' running lights. But since there is no real standard for wire color on trailers (and since colors can sometimes fade/change after exposure to weather) your best and easiest solution is simply to apply 12V power to the wires one at a time to see what function becomes active. You can use a vehicle's 12V battery or a spare - if like me...

  • Troubleshooting Turn/Brake Signals on Trailer with New 4-Way and 5 Wires
It sounds like your trailer has a wishbone wiring setup that uses a separate running lights circuit wire (brown) on each side of the trailer. In terms of standard trailer wiring colors it appears that you have wired the new 4-Way correctly, the issue might be that your trailer simply doesn't use standard wire colors for its lights. This can happen on older trailers that have maybe had a couple owners or even new ones that were the victim of some "creative" wiring at the factory. Determining...

Wishbone running light circuits can easily be used with standard trailer 4-way wiring setups. • Trailer Lights Will Not Turn On But there is Power at the Vehicle Trailer Connector
This sounds like a ground issue especially since the adapter you mentioned is lit. Since there is voltage on all of the pins of the 7-way and the 4-way when the adapter is used and the trailer seems to work fine with your vehicle the problem has to be the ground circuit of your friend's 4-way on his vehicle. • Testing Wiring of Lights to Determine Function before Installing on Vehicle
Since I don't know for sure what light assemblies you have I can only really venture a guess on what the wire colors represent. Especially since there are so many of them. Typically white is ground so I'd start by connecting that to a ground and then test the other wires by having them contact a 12 volt power source to see what functions they activate.
