Video Transcript for Deka Wiring 16-4B-1 Review

Today, we're going to review part number 16-4B-1. This is the Deka bonded four wire per foot. This is a parallel primary wire that has four parallel conductors bonded together by this thermal plastic insulation and each conductor is independently color coded for easy identification. Basically, can see that it has the normal four wire color coding. The green, which is your right turning brake wire. Your yellow which is your left turning brake wire. Your brown, which is your tail lights, and your white, which is your ground. Each wire is a 16 gauge and again, on this part number, the price is per foot.

I have a foot of wire right here so you can order as many feet as you like. This is designed for use with 50 volts or less. That should do it for the review on part number 16-4B-1, the Deka bonded four wire per foot. .

Wire came with cut insulation

This review covers an earlier purchase of backing plates and brake assemblies for my double axle 16' trailer as well as new wiring for this trailer after repeatedly repairing the wiring purchased from a local store. The brakes work perfectly and the new wiring is so much better than my previous locally purchased wiring. The only problem I have now is remembering to adjust the brakes between the loaded and unloaded trips. Makes the tires last longer!!

Wires are holding up great!! No more breaks or disconnects. This project completes a refitting of my 16 ft car hauler. Earlier parts included brake shoes and backing plates and a new trailer to truck power cable. Very satisfied with all of the items purchased from e-trailer.

Your description on line was the best of anywhere I found. I'm going to make 2 wiring harnesses for my pickup. I'll be towing it behind my motorhome so 1 harness will be from the front bumper to the rear of the bed for a light bar I'm making. Then the 2nd harness will be from the front bumper of the pickup to the rear of my motorhome. I also ordered 2 12" 4 wire loops for each end of the 2 harnesses I'll be making.

They worked out great!

by:

Worked out well and has held up.

Quality products that allows us to our trailer to automotive OEM standards vs the bound to fail system of the original trailer manufacturer

by:

Thick heavy gauge wire, with stout insulation.
Not like the thin stuff in a harbor freight light kit.
This is something you will be proud to put on your trailer.

helpful comparison, thanks!

Great people fast service and they take care of any problems you might have

by:

Having all your wiring color coded and matching for accessories on your camper or trailer is a must as far as im concerned. This roll does just that and makes repairs and connections so much easier. It also prevents shorts and incorrect wiring that alone makes it a must have.

This helped make rewiring my trailer very easy .

Trailer gets used twice a month

by:

Yet another part purchased for my 10K lb trailer build.
I am planning on mounting a waterproof junction box for my wiring, these wires will be used to power all of the lights on the trailer. I will run separate wires for the trailer brakes and battery. The quality of this wire looks to be pretty nice.

by:

Good product. Recieved order fast.

by:

Fast delivery - Ordered on 9/29/17 - Received on 10/4/17
As a benefit, wire is 16G rather then the normal 20G you find in the stores that have ready made harnesses.
NOTE for etrailer managers. I am a technical person by nature and speaking only for myself, when I buy and pay for a specific amount of something, I expect to get that amount. I'm not pinching pennies with you here; BUT, I bought 30' of this wire and when I received it, I measured it twice and came up with 29' 10". Most places I've dealt with in the past where I buy wire, angle iron, etc.. would give you a couple of inches or more than you ordered versus a couple of inches shorter than what was ordered. Very stingy in my opinion and not fair to your customers.

by:

Excellent product, quality, and exact wire gauge I was looking for. I love that I could buy the exact length I needed without buying an entire spool of wire. I'm using this wire on my utility trailer. I needed to lengthen the trailer wire that connects to the vehicle. I covered the wire with split loom and bought new connectors for both truck and trailer. It looks and functions great! Thanks!

by:

super fast shipping. exactly what was needed to get my flatbed trailer back on the road. Prices were great and customer support is fantastic. thanks for all the help and great products.

by:

The wire, rollers and the fenders were all received in good condition; and are installed on the trailer.

Your site was easy to order from, the price was good; and thank you for your promptness in delivering the order.

by:

Online ordering was very easy. Customer service emailed updates every step of the delivery process and allowed me to track my order very easily. Everything came in as expected and in great shape. My first experience with Etrailer has been very pleasant! Thank you!

by:

Excellent new wire that I used to completely rewire the trailer. Very good quality, good insulation, nice fresh multi-strand copper wire inside. Superb! Very satisfied!

by:

Hi, I am sorry to give you a not so good review but I feel I must be honest. When I received my wire it was in a rat nest I spent some time unknotting it and some of the wires were not connected to the bonded 4 wire by at least 11/2 foot. however the shipping was fast. Thank You David S.

by:

Everything I ordered from trailer was exactly as advertised.
Great service!

by:

As always my order was received in record time. The products are great quality with some of the best customer service I have ever received. Etrailer goes above and beyond to provide great products as well as very informative technical information.

by:

Great for running to back and front of the flat bed for the two sets of brake lights.

by:

Good product easy to install just seemed a bit cheap. It was easier than building my own harness.

  • Parts Needed to Add a 4-way Wiring Harness to a 2018 Jayco North Point 5th Wheel Trailer
I do have an option for you, but it will involve splicing into some wires. There is not a plug-n-play option available for your 2018 Jayco North Point 5th wheel. - 4-Pole Hardwire Kit with Circuit Tester # 18252 which has Quick-splice connectors to ease installation. We also have bonded 4 Wire # 16-4B-1 sold by the foot if you need more wire length. If you need to add additional wire you'll need some 16-14 Gauge Butt Connector # 05731-5 to connect the wires.

  • Identifying 5th Circuit of Trailer Wiring
Red isn't a standard color for trailer wiring that uses 5 wires so you'd have to track down that circuit to determine what it controls and wire as needed. It's most likely a reverse light circuit for either a lock out solenoid wired to the back of a surge brake actuator or for reverse lights at the rear of the vehicle. For a 5-way connector with 25 feet of wiring we have the part # A25W5B.

  • Why are the Running Lights on My Trailer Not Working
The first thing you will want to do is check all of your ground connections. Make sure that the ground connections on the vehicle and the trailer are connected to a clean, smooth metal surface. The best is to use the frame of the vehicle or trailer. If there aren't any issues with the grounds and you're still having the issue, then you will want to test the pins on the trailer connector on your vehicle. For this you'll need a circuit tester like # PTW2993. This will tell us if the...

We do not have any kits for adding a trailer connector to a 5th wheel trailer, but you can simply run the wires from as far back as you can tap into the signal on your 5th wheel to the rear. I suggest using the Deka Bonded 4 Wire # 16-4B-1 sold by the foot. You can use quick splice wire connectors like # SWC501925-1. For the back of your RV, you can use the Hopkins Endurance Quick-Fix Replacement 4-Way Flat Trailer Connector w LED Test Lights - Vehicle End # HM48190. If you need to...

  • Can Spectro Trailer Wiring Junction Box Part # 38656 Be Used on Tow Vehicle for Splicing Wiring
Yes, the Spectro junction box can be used in your tow vehicle for making wiring connections. This part has a heavy-duty weatherproof plastic housing and includes grommets and cable clamps. You will need to supply two nuts, washers and 1/4-inch bolts of the appropriate length to install the box on your vehicle. I have linked a video showing installation of this part on a trailer frame. The housing measures 3-1/2 x 2-1/4 x 7 inches. In case you need connectors or wire for your splicing...

  • Troubleshooting Brake Lights that Activate When Running Lights Come On
You have a short between the running light and stop/turn circuits of your trailer wiring (if issue is on trailer, if on vehicle then it's the vehicle wiring with a short). You'd need to go over the wiring of the circuits to see where the short is and fix as needed.

  • Recommended Wire and Connector for 5-Way Round Application
For a 5-way round trailer connector, I recommend the Pollak 5-Pole, Round Pin Trailer Wiring Connector - Chrome - Trailer End # PK11501. Most people will use the Bonded 4 Wire - per foot # 16-4B-1 to connect the signals and then run # 16-1-1 for the other function needed.

  • Combining Brake Lights and Turn Signals to Tow a Trailer with a Honda Gold Wing
What are the functions of the wiring harness on the Gold Wing? Use a circuit tester like # PTW2993 if needed to test its functions to determine what each one does. You should have a ground and running lights for sure. But it is the turn signal and brake signals we are concerned with. What you could do is use a converter, # RM-732. It will take the separate turn signals and brake lights, combine them, and on the output side the signals will be combined to work with the trailer. If you...

The Cargo Carrier Light Kit # 52014 is a good light kit but I you might consider looking at the Curt Auxiliary LED Indicator Lights # C53201 instead because they install by via adhesive instead of brackets and the lights have connectors that will be a little easier to disconnect. When it comes to adding a 4-Way wiring to the back of your R-Pod I recommend using the Junction Box Kit # 3430001-JBK on the tongue of your trailer. There are a few troubleshooting steps to help you figure out why your lights are not working. A trailer's brake and turn signals are on one circuit and the running lights are on another circuit. • Troubleshooting Trailer Taillights Not Functioning on Trailer Where Signal is Present
Sounds like you most likely are drawing too much power on the running light circuit and all of the lights aren't able to light up. Normally this might blow a fuse but in some cases it just won't power the lights. If it's not the amperage capacity of the circuit it can also be too thin of wire used and the wiring just can't handle the amperage. One way to test this is to unplug or disconnect most of the running lights to see if at any point the circuit will light up the remaining ones plugged...

You would just need to ground that one ground wire to a bare metal surface. The other wire is the power wire and will attach to the same place as the previous light bar power wire.
