Carpet Diagram

Note: This 11" wide carpeting is designed for use on 2x4 and 2x6 boards. If you use this on your 2x6 bunk boards, some of the board will be exposed on the underside.

Protect Your Boat's Hull

Over time, the carpeting that covers your bunk boards can wear down or even tear apart. This can lead to scratches on your boat's hull. Replacing the carpeting periodically ensures protection for your boat, and it will also prevent your wooden bunk boards from rotting.

Replacing Bunk Board Carpeting

To get started, remove the old carpet from your bunk boards, doing your best to remove any old staples and bolts from the boards as well.

Cut the carpet to the appropriate length and lay it down so that the backing is facing up, then place your bunk board on top. Make sure that there's enough extra carpet to wrap around the sides and ends of the board. Then wrap the carpet around one side and staple it in place.

Once you're done with the first side, tightly pull the carpet around the opposite edge of the board and secure it with staples. Loose carpet can easily snag or tear, leaving the wooden board vulnerable to moisture or damage.

Once both sides are securely attached, tuck any extra carpet at the ends in tightly, like you're wrapping a package, and secure the ends to the board with staples.

Easy to cut and attach to the 2x4 bunks I made for my trailer.

by:

Great product! I've replaced my bunks several times over the years with carpet from the big box stores. Always lasts about 2 years, primarily because of wear where the boat slides onto the end of the bunks at the rear of the trailer. This time I decided to try a product that was actually designed for trailer bunks. One year later and my bunks still look great! For just a few dollars more I'm expecting these to last many years. We keep our 24' bow rider in dry storage so we trailer it after every use (weekly in season) and it's gets a lot of wear and tear. We are very happy with this purchase and would recommend this product to anyone looking to replace their trailer bunks!

After 11 years in saltwater my bunk boards needed replacement. The carpet from e-trailer was just right. Easy ordering, fast delivery and a good price. I always check out e-trailer first when I need parts.

by:

Just received and looks great. A good thickness for bunk material.

by:

Etrailer is my go to place for my trailer needs. High quality items at great prices. Just received my bunk carpet for my boat trailer and was well pleased with the quality of the product.
A shout out to Paul B.for helping me this week.
Thanks for your help Paul B. !!

Item was exactly as advertised. All were uniform length and width. Managed to recarpet our pontoon trailer bunks in only a couple of hours. And that’s first time ever doing that project!! Good service - good product.

by:

Worked great, nice carpet.

by:

Material is as I had expected. I have not installed yet as my boat and trailer are located at my lake home.

by:

New bunk risers are in as is the new bunk and carpet. The reminder here is to check the bolts securing the bunks. The bunks came loose out at the Colorado river north of Yuma so had to jimmy rig the boat to the trailer on the way home to San Diego. Oh, and it was well over 100 degrees on the way home. No bueno! Everything good to go now.

by:

Good quality, wraps well, cuts easily

by:

Great looking, easy to work with, and gives it a great finish for the project.

by:

The carpet is awesome, worked great on our Aluminum Boat.

by:

I purchased this carpet to when I replaced the wooden bunks on my 1993 boat trailer. The carpet was exactly as advertised and has held up well. It should last a long time.

The items mentioned are still working well. I have been so pleased with my etrailer purchases that we bought 4 new tires and rims from you this spring. Paid less for 4 tires and rims than the local dealer wanted for two tires, no rims.

by:

Good product. Measures as advertised.

by:

My first install and it was flawless. Researched etrailer videos for advice and made it happen. I'm very happy with the product. Looks great and my boat loads and unloads well (18' deckliner).

This bunk board carpeting work very well on my new bunk boards

by:

I did a total rebuild of my boat trailer. I ordered nearly all of the parts from etrailer. New carpet for the bunks new brakes and backing plates as well as a new brake actuator. New wheel bearings and seals. This trailer is old a 1974 but all of the parts fit I was satisfied with all of the products I received and the timely manner in which they were delivered to my door I am very happy with the fine service I received a t trailer and the help and selecting the right parts thank you very much etrailer.

by:

Great service, easy to install, quality of product excellent.

by:

I finally was able to make the modification to my boat trailer and the bunk carpet worked perfectly. The job looks professional and it works GREAT! Thanks for your expert advise and great service.

by:

It wasn't in stock, but you got it delivered in time!

Thanks

by:

I just replaced the bunk boards on my 1993 boat trailer and applied the deluxe carpeting to the new wood. The old boards had rotted and the lag bolts had rusted and fallen out. I replaced the boards with new, pressure-treated 2x4s. The carpet was easy to work with and is quite slippery which should help with loading the boat onto the trailer. The only drawback was that the roll of carpet is 11 inches wide and I had to cut it down to 10 inches because the bunk boards are 2x4s and the carpet edges overlapped when I wrapped it around the boards.

by:

Worked great on my trailer.

by:

Excellent service with fair price and quick delivery. Made new bunks myself and after 1 year everything still looks good with no fading. The material is very easy to work with a rubber backing that really sticks well to wood surfaces using Henry’s carpet adhesive.

by:

Looks good on the roll but I have not yet lifted my Montgomery 17 off the trailer to replace the old bunk board covering. Need to prop boat to remove the trailer. This product is thicker than the original therefore should protect the hull better

by:

Nice quality bunk carpet, easy to trim with scissors/sharp knife, attached very well with staples. I'll order again for my other boat trailers.

  • Trailer Bunk Carpet for 14 ft long 2x4 Bunk Boards
To make your own bunk boards, pressure treated pine has long proven to be the best kind of treated wood to use because it holds up well and it is strong enough to support a boat. To wrap around the 14 ft long 2 x 4 bunk boards (actually 1.5 x 3.5), you'll need carpet that is around 14-1/2 ft long and just over 10 inches wide. Our closest option is going to be the CE Smith Deluxe Marine-Grade Carpeting # CE11349. I've linked an installation video for you to check out at the bottom of the page.

  • Recommended Replacement Carpeting For Boat Trailer Bunks 20 Ft Long
The marine-grade carpeting we offer for trailer bunks is available in three colors, Black, Blue, and Charcoal. The longest carpeting we offer is 18 feet and is part # CE11349. This is Black and is 18 inches wide. We also offer Charcoal, part # CE11372, which is 12 ft long and 11 inches wide. You would need two for each bunk and overlap the seam in order to cover the 20 feet and ends you mentioned. For 12 ft Black you would order part # CE11330 and for Blue the part number is # CE11350.

  • How to Install CE Smith Deluxe Marine-Grade Carpeting # CE11372 on Wooden Boat Trailer Bunks
I recommend using a combination of non-water-soluble glue and staples to install the CE Smith Deluxe Marine-Grade Carpeting # CE11372. You can use the staples only on the back side of the bunks - where it does NOT touch the boat hull. Glue should be applied on the entire back surface of the carpet and then to hold it in place while the glue sets you can install staples. If you want to skip the glue then this is permissible. We do not sell glue or staples but your local hardware store will...

  • Recommended Carpet Width for Bunk Boards Measuring 2 Inches X 6 Inches
For 2 x 6 bunks you'll want the 18-inch width carpet # CE11349 in order to have full wrap-around coverage without exposed wood. As for wood, using treated could extend the life of the your bunk boards, but you will be also looking a higher cost then using untreated wood.

  • Availability of a 15' Roll of Carpeting for Trailer Bunks
The only carpeting that we have which is longer than the 12' # CE11372 is the 18' # CE11349. Unfortunately we don't have just a 15' option but you would be able to use any additional carpeting for future repairs.

  • What Does a 5/16 Measurement on a Staple Indicate
The 5/16 measurement should be the leg length from the top of the crown to the bottom of the leg. That equals 8 millimeters. This is a common size in many small staple guns like what you might find at a hobby shop.

  • How Much Carpet is Needed for 55 Feet of 12 Inch Wide Bunk Boards
Our gray bunk carpet is called charcoal and it is # CE11372. This is a 12 foot long by 11 inch wide roll of carpet for 1,584 square feet. Based on a total length of all the boards of 55 feet (660 inches) at 12 inches wide and assuming you are covering the front and at least most of the back of each board you would need about 17,000 square feet in order to have some left over in case you need it. That would mean you'd need 11 of # CE11372.

  • Availability of 10 Foot Long Carpeted Bunk Boards
Although we don't offer carpeted bunk boards that long, they're very easy to construct yourself using # CE11372 bunk carpet and locally obtained 2 x 4's. I'd recommend using redwood if you can find it, it'll last a long time. You'd need two rolls of the carpet. I'd use some contact cement and staples to attach the carpet to the bunks. I made some carpeted bunks for my SeaDoo trailer about 5 years ago, and they still look good today.

You certainly could make your own bunk boards using pressure treated lumber and bunk carpet like # CE11372 if you wish. CE Smith doesn't use pressure treated lumber in their bunk boards because some of the chemicals used to pressure treat the lumber could leach into the water.

I went out to the warehouse to inspect a roll of the bunk carpet # CE11372. The back material is the same as the front but whereas the front is more fluffy, for lack of a better term, the back is matted. The shipping weight is 2 pounds. The actual weight will be slightly less than that since the packing for this product is very light. As far as a weight or Mil rating it doesn't have one; only that it is marine grade.
