Video Transcript for Curt Hitch Receiver Reducer Sleeve Review

Brad Hello, neighbors, it's Brad here at etrailer and today we're taking a look at the Curt Reducer Sleeve that's gonna take our receiver tube opening from a two and a half in to a two inch. So, if you have that two inch ball mount and you've upgraded to a heavier dutier truck and or maybe you just have a couple trucks in your fleet no worries. You're not going go have to buy a whole separate ball mount. You can go ahead, put that sleeve in place and be able to put your two inch ball, no problem. I really like that I can from my pickup with a two inch receiver to my diesel with a two and a half inch without having to get any additional equipment. Now it also has two notches on here which makes it nice and easy.

That way when you slide this in you can't push it too far. It's not gonna get stuck in there, you're always gonna have a little edge here to be able to pull that out if you do need to go back to that two and a half. Now what's also nice is you're not gonna need a special pin and clip. You'll just be able to slide this through. You'll align your holes and then your normal pin and clip will go through, holding that all in place.

Now you can see that our ball mount has seen better days as it's starting to rust but the great part about this being steel construction with that black powder coat finish, that's gonna hold up against that rust and corrosion so you're not gonna see that transferring over for a long time. And that was a look at the Curt Reducer Sleeve, going from a two and a half inch to a two inch..

This hitch worked well on my Kona electric. Etrailer provides outstanding service. Will definitely purchase from this quality company again.

by:

Excellent product, very sturdy. We have been using them on our trailers for years.

by:

Had exactly what I wanted in a hitch and the adapter. Fast delivery. Highly recommend

by:

Sliped this adapter right in my Class V Hitch works great. I'm using it with A Curtis adj hitch and locking pins. I'm towing a 24ft 10k cargo trailer with it.

by:

Good fit and helped greatly with mounting a Thule bike rack.

by:

Perfect fit, just what I needed, always fast shipping and great customer service from etrailer.com

by:

Very thick and strong.

by:

Fits perfectly in my 2.5 inch F-350 receiver. Minimal movement with a solid feel to ensure my Airstream 2 inch Equalizer hitch set-up can perform as designed.

by:

Works great. I have 2.5" hitch on Pick up truck, while my smaller SUV is a 2". This will be handy with bike rack!

by:

Stops line it up perfectly in my 2012 GMC 2500 hitch. Only thing I don’t like is it fits a bit loose and it rattles some

by:

Slides in a little too far, not a real problem. The fit is somewhat sloppy... would like it to fit more snug.

by:

The hitch adapter works well, however I can't insert it all the way or the pin holes don't line up. This makes it difficult to put the hitch in and having to line up all 3 holes at once.

by:

My recommendation for this product would be to make it longer to distribute the load along the entire length of inside hitch receiver. Also to get rid of the tabs on the front because I had to cut them off to be able to slide my hitch in far enough to line up the pin holes.

Dont use it. Worthless as far as Im concerned.

by:

Does what is supposed to do. Seems solid and have had no issues. Use it to pull trailers ranging from 3,500lb to 10,000lb. Have not noticed any slop or movement beyond what I had with the stock 2" receiver. The only thing that is not great is that when pushed in all the way to the stop tabs the pin hole is past the pin hole of my receiver so you have to line up three sets of holes rather than just two.

by:

Works well with my trailer hotch on my nee truck

by:

Not much to say. It's a hitch sleeve. Does what you would expect. I do like the little nubs on the end that keep the sleeve from sliding into the hitch too far.

Same as before. Not much to say. Its been great.

by:

the receiver reducer did not fit my truck, the holes for the locking pin did not align. Your site said it fit my truck but it didn’t.

Sorry to hear that. This is a universal item that converts a 2.5 inch receiver to a 2 inch. Here are the specs to see if it fits: Dimensions: 5.5 inch long x 2.5 inch wide Pin hole diameter: 5 eighths inch

by:

Justin did an excellent job expediting my order and my order is exactly what I needed. Thanks Justin!

by:

So far so good. Got this due to our new f250 having the big hitch. Feels solid & time will tell when we hauls a 26ft trailer with it.

Jeff

Working great. However due to trailer & a new f250 we had to get a whole new assembly. Oh well for the short amount of time we used it, it worked great. Price was great too.

by:

This sleeve adaptor is perfect. My kids bought me a 2" NFL hitch cover for Christmas, even though my hitch receiver was 2-1/2" I figured I could always use a smaller receiver adaptor for another trailer that I have. Wouldn't have bought it otherwise, but it is a good fit and I may be able to use it for towing in the future (and my "gifted" hitch cover is installed).

by:

Item fit as needed with little play. Totally necessary to retro fit my old receivers for lighter applications.

by:

etrailer.com has become my favorite shopping website when I need something for my truck or travel trailer. I now check etrailer BEFORE amazon. They always have what I'm looking for at a great price and the delivery times are really not too bad. I'm spoiled by 2 day shipping but I've come to appreciate the quality of the products here. Having an RV specific website makes finding just the right part a lot easier. Oh and the adapter for the hitch receiver on my 2020 Ford F-250 fits perfectly. I was afraid the spare tire was so close to the back of the receiver that the shank might be too long, but nope, it's perfect.

by:

Product arrived in a damaged box and had some scratches in various places. Packaging could have probably been more robust.
Other than that, the installation was quick and straightforward. Unless you regularly bench about 100 pounds, you'll need some assistance. Have yet to tow with it, but it should work just fine. Much better than the stock hitch that failed which prompted the replacement. 03 GMC Sierra 3500 CC Long bed, Dually, 6.6L.

by:

Fits like a glove!!

by:

Product arrived just as described and works great with my Silverado 2500HD since my hitches and bike rack are all for a 2" receiver.

  • Recommended 12 Inch Hitch Extender for 2 Inch Bike Rack on Vehicle with a 2-1/2 Inch Trailer Hitch
Great news! I have just the products you are looking for. The Curt # C45405 is a 2-1/2 to 2 inch receiver adapter that will give you a 2 inch receiver. Then for an extension that will give you an overall length of 12 inches, I recommend the Buyers Products # 3371804015. It's important to note that when using the Buyers Products extension it will reduce your capacity by 33 percent. I have linked both items to this page for your purchasing convenience.

The Adapter Kit for DTLBM and DTALBM Series Locking Ball mounts, # DTADP35, is designed specifically for trailer hitch ball mounts in the DTLBM and DTALBM series. If you just need a reducer sleeve, I recommend the Curt Reducer Sleeve 2-1/2 inch to 2 inch, # C45405.

The etrailer Hitch Receiver Lock for 2" and 2-1/2" Hitches # e98881 is capable of a maximum span of 3-5/8". The Chrome Trailer Hitch Receiver Metal Tube Cover # F-10P is designed for a 2" receiver and it sounds like your truck does have a 2-1/2" receiver. A Curt Reducer Sleeve 2-1/2" to 2" # C45405 will help to center the cover and keep it from bouncing and sliding around inside your 2-1/2" receiver tube.

  • Hitch Adapter Recommendation for a Class V Hitch so that it Can Be Used with 2 inch Accessories
It sounds like you have a Class V hitch with a 2-1/2 inch opening on it. 2 inch hitches are more common so if you wanted an adapter to let you use 2 inch accessories the part # C45405 would be what you would need. I attached a couple FAQ articles to the right that explain the differences between the hitch sizes and the classifications.

In order to accommodate the 2-1/2 inch hitch receiver you will need the Locking, Anti-Rattle, Threaded Hitch Pin # S64029 or the Anti-Rattle Hitch Lock and Cable # S64031. For a hitch reducer you can use # C45405.

Going to an 18,000 pound rated trailer hitch on your 2006 Chevy Silverado 3500 will indeed require you to switch to a 2-1/2 inch receiver. This is not a problem though because as you mentioned we have various adapters available such as the Curt # C45405 that will reduce this opening to 2 inches so you can continue to use your existing accessories. Because the sleeve slides into the hitch receiver it won't restrict the use of your accessories at all in terms of capacity or function and it...

I believe you are looking for a dual hitch receiver adapter like the Roadmaster # RM-077-6 that's directly compatible with the 2-1/2" receiver on your Ford F-250. While there isn't an adapter like this available that's designed for 2-1/2" receivers, you can still use a 2" model like this one by simply adding a reducer sleeve like # C45405 to your truck's receiver. Based on your question, I assume you have the 2-1/2 inch trailer hitch receiver. There are many options available to assist with your desired towing weight, but there is one that I recommend above the others for ease of use and function at that capacity. I recommend the Curt Adjustable 2-Ball Mount # C45902. This ball mount accommodates up to a 5-1/4 inch rise or up to a 6 inch drop. The Reese Titan Weight Dist Shank part # RP54976 should fit into the 2-1/2" receiver tube opening on your 2017 Ford F-350. However, I cannot say for certain as they have not been tested and confirmed to fit. The problem is that some of the 2-1/2" OEM Ford trailer hitches do not withhold the same industry standard tolerance as most do so there are certain situations in which the shank will and will not fit. In most cases it will fit and in some, minor trimming/sanding is needed. With that...

Yes, you can use your 2-inch weight distribution hitch (WDH) in a 2-1/2-inch hitch in either of two ways. One way is to add a hitch reducer sleeve to the 2-1/2-inch hitch to drop it down to a 2-inch size to allow using your system as-is. We have many brands of reducer such as Curt # C45405; this and others appear on the linked page. We do have the Curt shank # C17122 which sticks out 14" but it is for a 2" receiver so you would need to use your adapter like part # C45405. Where are you measuring from? The inside of the receiver tube opening on your 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 should be just a hair larger than 2-1/2" if you indeed have the 2-1/2" trailer hitch. I can't really think of any measurement that would be 2-3/4" so I recommend checking again using only the inside portion of the receiver tube.
