I recently bought a truck tent that sets up over the open tailgate. I have a bump/step that became totally useless as it was covered by the tailgate. Then I came across the ST18 extension. Now after the tent is set up, I install the extension then the bump/step itself and your able to step up and into the tent with no problems, and it's also extremely stable!

This is exactly what I needed. Being a long time RV owner, I have purchased many items from E-trailer and have never had a bad experience. Great service, product exactly as described.

  • Availability of Hitch Extender for Andersen Weight Distribution Hitch
We have a few options for an extender that you can use with weight distribution. Depending on the length you need there is the Brophy Hitch Extender For 2" Trailer Hitch Receiver 14" Long # HE12 and Reese Hitch Extender for 2" Trailer Hitches - 18" Long # ST18. The only problem with these is that they will reduce the capacity of your hitch. The Brophy # HE12 has a maximum gross trailer weight of 7,000 lbs and tongue weight of 700 lbs when used with weight distribution. It will also reduce...

  • How Much Does The Brophy Hitch Extender Reduce Tongue Weight
Almost all hitch extenders will cut your tongue weight in half. However, Brophy has confirmed their Brophy Hitch Extender with step part # ST18 will cut the tongue weight of the trailer hitch by only 33-1/3%. If your hitch is rated for 500 lbs tongue weight then the new tongue weight will be 333 lbs compared to 250 lbs with the other options. I instead recommend using an extra long ball mount if you can get away with it because they do not reduce the tongue weight capacity of your hitch...

  • Longest Hitch Extender with Highest Capacity for Dolly Towing Vehicle Behind Motorhome
The longest hitch extension for a 2 inch receiver with the highest towing capacity is the # ST18 from Reese. The extender has a 3,500 lb towing capacity. Keep in mind that using an extender like this particular one will lower your hitch towing and tongue weight capacity by one-third. The tongue weight shouldn't be an issue, because car dollies typically don't have a tongue weight much more than 100 lbs. The weight of the car plus the weight of the dolly couldn't exceed the 3500 lb towing...

  • Hitch Extender Solution for Setup with Weight Distribution
The install of the weight distribution system you mentioned will add a bit more clearance between the trailer hitch and trailer so you'd gain a bit of clearance there. The best setup for a hitch extension type solution would be the replacement shank part # EQ90-02-4500 which is pretty long. The hitch extension like the part # ST18 is capable of being used with WD systems, but it reduces your hitch capacity by one third.

  • Solutions for Clearing Slide-In Truck Camper with Ball Mount for Towing Boat Trailer
The longest standard hitch extender we have available for a 2 inch receiver is an 18 inch long adapter like the Brophy # ST18 which you have already tried. Please also note that using this and most other extenders will reduce the overall capacity of your trailer hitch. This particular unit will reduce it by one-third (most others reduce it by a half). You will just need make sure that the weight of your loaded trailer does not exceed the reduced capacity on your hitch. I'm not sure how...

  • Longest Available 2-Inch Hitch Extensions for Use with Truck Bed Camper
For a 2-inch hitch the longest hitch extensions we offer are the 60-inch # TLE1560 and 48-inch # TLE1548, both from TorkLift. However, these only work along with a TorkLift brand SuperHitch dual-receiver type hitch that has the strength and included safety chains to handle the extra stress from the trailer load being further from the hitch. To use one of these you will need to also install a SuperHitch. The longest standard 2-inch hitch extension that will work in any hitch is 18-inches,...

  • Using Reese Hitch Extender with Long Shank Ball Mount on 2002 Ford F-150
You can use the Brophy Hitch Extender # ST18 that you referenced along with the Draw-Tite Ball Mount # 2753. The only thing you need to be aware of is that the use of the Brophy extender will reduce the weight capacity of your trailer hitch by one-third. For example, if the trailer hitch on your F-150 has a towing weight capacity of 10,000 pounds, this will be reduced to 6,666 pounds when using the extender. But then you would be limited by the 3,500 capacity of the # ST18. This would...

  • Hitch Extender for 2014 Toyota Tundra Towing Trailer with Weight Distribution
The further you extend the connection point between the truck and trailer and the more adapters you use, the less your weight capacity will be. The Brophy Hitch Extender part # ST18 can be used with a weight distribution system but you will reduce your towing capacity by 1/3 or 7,000 lbs, whichever is lower. Therefore, if the trailer hitch on your tow vehicle is rated for 13,500 lbs or more then you can use the Brophy Hitch Extender. There are other adapters available but each manufacturer...

  • How To Tow a Trailer Using a 1999 Ford F-350 With Truck Bed Camper That Overhangs Rear Hitch
I have good news and I have bad news. The good news is that there is an option that was made for exactly this same situation. The bad news is that it's not exactly cost effective. This entails using the TorkLift SuperTruss Hitch Extension part # TLE1548 which also requires the TorkLift SuperHitch Original Trailer Hitch Receiver part # TLF1002 that is a fit for a 1999 Ford F-350. • Can You Use a Brophy ST18 with Weight Distribution
Though you will want to double check the towing rating of your 1999 Ford F-350 diesel, the weight ratings you listed will work with the Brophy # ST18. That being said, this will allow for a little movement when installed, especially with a weight distribution system. Due to this, you will want to add a couple anti rattle devices, like the Roadmaster Quiet Hitch # RM-061. For what you will be doing, I would go with 2 of these. One for the hitch on the vehicle, and one for weight distribution...

  • Hitch Extender Recommendation for 7000 lb Camper
An extender like the # ST18 does provide a handy way to provide additional space between the truck and the trailer. The only down side is that using this extender will decrease the towing and tongue weight capacity of your truck's hitch by 33%. This extender itself can handle 7000 lbs towing and 700 lb of tongue weight, but your maximum capacity will be limited by the component with the lowest capacity. Given that your hitch would need a huge towing capacity in order handle the trailer...

  • Extending a 2 Hitch Receiver for Better Clearance
It sounds like you already have a 2" receiver, so the reason for wanting the Reese Hitch Box Extension, part # RP45292 is for the extension. Rather than trying to use an adapter to expand your 2" receiver to 2-1/2" (which we do not carry), I suggest going with an extender that is made for your 2" receiver. I recommend another extender, part # ST18. This has an 18" extension with a gross tongue weight of 350 pounds and maximum towing capacity of 3500 pounds. Of course, that can be increased...

However you can get a hitch extender and not replace your tailgate. As long as the extender sets your ball mount past the edge of your tailgate you will have enough clearance for the jack. This is a common problem but in your situation an extension such as # ST18 will work perfectly. The use of this extension reduces the tongue weight capacity of the trailer hitch by one third. (Most others reduce by one half.) Since the tongue weight of your trailer is only 150 pounds the reduced hitch capacity won't be a problem. You'll simply measure from the center of the hitch pin hole on your hitch to the furthest point in a straight line away from the hitch. Any extender you use will need to cover at least this distance to be useable. If you are at exactly 18 inches, then I recommend the Tow Ready Hitch Extender for 2 inch Hitches,...

Even when considering that the adapter reduces the tongue weight capacity of your hitch by 33-1/3 percent you are in good shape because your Ram is equipped with a Class V hitch that has more than enough capacity. • Does Longer Ball Mount Reduce Hitch Capacity by Same Amount as Hitch Extender
Hitch extenders like the part # ST18 reduce the tongue weight capacity of the hitch they are installed in. This one in particular does so by on-third which is less than most of the other options. Longer ball mounts like the part # EA40 do not cause the capacity reduction. This is because there isn't the added movement of having an additional hitch connection.

  • Can Brophy Extension # ST18 Be Used with Motorcycle Carrier
I wouldn't recommend the use of a hitch extender with a motorcycle carrier under normal circumstances as that adds quite a bit of leverage and torque on the hitch it's installed in.
