Hitch Extender to Tow Boat Trailer with 150 Pounds Tongue Weight with Slide-In Camper in Truck Bed

Question:

I have a Dodge RAM 2500 diesel. When I put my truck camper on the truck I cant pull my boat. The boat and trailer weight about 1200 pounds. Would the 18inch extension hitch work for that. My hitch is a 2inch resese hitch. All I need is 16inch to make it work and the toung weight is about 150 pounds. Any ideas.

This is a common problem but in your situation an extension such as # ST18 will work perfectly. The use of this extension reduces the tongue weight capacity of the trailer hitch by one third. (Most others reduce by one half.) Since the tongue weight of your trailer is only 150 pounds the reduced hitch capacity won't be a problem.

If you want to save some money you could also use Curt extender # C45796. This extension is rated for 3,500 pounds gross trailer weight and 350 pounds tongue weight. The tongue weight capacity of the hitch should be on a sticker on the hitch. You will need to go by the tongue weight capacity that is lower; either the reduced capacity of the hitch (when using the extension) or the capacity of the extender.
