Not that many non-adjustable option for a 12” drop and this one is the best! Love the cushion and it’s very strong. I put that to the test today when I got rear ended with it in the back of my truck. This thing saved the back of my Ram. Came right back to etrailer and ordered a new one!

by:

Needed a large drop hitch to pull my car trailer. This item came quickly and worked perfectly.

by:

This extreme rise ball mount is what I need to make my passenger car into a back-up trailer puller. It is well built and has a welded strut to reinforce the long rise/drop ball mount. The "shock damper" feature is sure to help absorb the leverage movement that a rise/drop ball mount passes on to the hitch receiver itself.

This unit is still exactly what I needed, and still

by:

I added a hidden hitch and this is just what I needed.

by:

This is a ball hitch mount that is not a standard unit, problem I had I purchased a new p/u going from a 2500 series which stood higher to a 1500 series standing lower by 4" also lowering 3 1/2" towing a 4800 pound boat as we all know, needing to tow level, that wasn't going to happen, this ball mount did the trick, fits D.O.T. standards also more than what i needed for weight requirements

Ball mount achieved the goal for my height requirements, what I didnt explain the piston action in the ball mount, it does cushion the back and fourth while towing considerably if and when I will buy one with it, also you got it to me in two days great device l

by:

Very well made hitch. I am extremely impressed with the quality of this hitch. I have another big drop hitch that i paid 10x what i paid for this and i really wish i had found this hitch before i spent all that money on the other one. This does exactly what's advertised and definitely helps a lot with absorbing shock and keeping the trailer tracking straight and comfortably behind you.

by:

Needed this to replace the one that someone stole off my truck. My fault for not locking it for one night, in my driveway. Needed this to make the trailer ride level. Quick shipment along with the 2" Ball.
Great Company to order from

by:

Looks good but haven’t towed with it yet. Price was a little higher after conversation and shipping but looks like a decent product. My truck is a dodge 3500 with a 6” long arm lift on 37” tires and this 12” looks like it will be perfect for my cargo and utility trailer’s. Other note it was a little loose in my 2” hitch so I added a receiver clamp to stop rattle.

by:

Exactly what I needed. This fits on my front receiver, which is hidden at the bottom of my grill. I needed the extended drop to keep the trailer level when manouvering. The hitch is of good quality. I’ve only used it at very low speeds. Works for me.

by:

Great looking drop hitch and unbelievably fast shipping. Works great on my 2012 dodge diesel with 6" lift and 37" tires. The 10,000 lb. rating is the highest I could find with this much drop not to mention about half the cost of any other hitch I found. Customer service and shipping verification follow up is second to none. I'll be buying from them from now on.

by:

Wasn't sure this was what I needed but this hitch worked great. Seems to be well made. Truck has 40 inch tires and 11 inch lift and now i can pull camper and a small trailer without putting the smaller tires back on.

by:

I am very happy with the 12 inch drop hitch i bought it was just the way it was described on the web site it will work perfect for pulling the car trailer to the races.

by:

The hitch appears to be made very well and heavy duty. I haven't had a chance to tow with it yet, but this was the only company I could find that carried a 12 inch drop down in stock. I had two other companies cancel my order because the 12 inch drop was no longer available through them. Excellent price also.

by:

Wow. Product shipped same day, regular ground, but arrived only 2 days later. Had the cushion feature on it that I hadn't even noticed or expected. My Toyota truck is lifted 6" with a Nissan Titan hitch custom welded on so this brought it down to the perfect height for me (14"). Great value too. Thanks!

by:

Perfect Fit!
07-12 Jeep Wrangler JK
with 3.5" lift. This was the exact product to get the trailer back on level.
Great service and fast shipping.

by:

I need this for my small trailer, just the perfect height.
Very satisfied with etrailer, shipping was great and fast
Their web page is very easy to navigate and place orders.
I will buy again from etrailer.

by:

the drop hitch was Just what I needed for my trucks lift. fits perfect and well made. the service was awesome as well. shipped it out same day.

An empty box is probably not what you were expecting. I see that we sent you a new ball mount. When you have a chance I would love to know what you think of it.

by:

Seems to be well built, I actually needed to raise my hitch to match a trailer that was built too high, this lined up my hitch just right.

Still working just fine.

by:

I purchased a 2020 GMC Yukon XL Denali which is about 9" taller than my 1988 Chevy Suburban was. The Convert-A-Ball Mount with a 12" Drop is the right amount of drop I needed so I could keep all 3 of my trailers (box, boat, and car trailers) level with the ground. The Convert-A-Ball Mount with a 12" Drop and a 7,000 lb load rating has been a very good product for me.

by:

Solid welds and excellent quality construction. The only thing not perfect, but minor enough to not affect a 5-star rating, was the "clunking" noise of the cushion feature movement during speed changes in city traffic. Since we needed a ball mount with so much rise, we decided the cushion feature of this one would also help absorb some of the overall stress inherent to such a wide offset between vehicle and trailer. Although we're very happy with this product, if we'd known how well-made it was beforehand, we would have realized the cushion feature wasn't necessary. We believe it's more than capable of its load rating. Thanks, etrailer.

  • Recommended Ball Mount with 9-1/2 inch Rise
Between the two ball mount options referenced in your question, I recommend going with the Convert-A-Ball # AMSC12 that has the larger 10-3/4 inch rise. This is because when loading your tow vehicle up for a trip with your trailer, there is bound to be some rear sag that will lower the ball mount even further. Choosing a ball mount with a slightly higher rise than you need will help to account for this. Another option you may consider is the Draw-Tite Ball Mount # 80248 that has a 9-3/4...

  • Solutions for Towing Trailer With Very Low Ground Clearance Under Trailer Ball
Wow, your truck must have quite a lift and the trailer coupler height must be super-low! 4 inches of ground clearance under the hitch ball isn't sufficient. There are things you can do with the suspension on the trailer to raise its height. If the leaf springs are currently mounted to the underside of the axle, you can use an over/under conversion kits like # K71-384-00 for a 2-3/8 inch or # K71-385-00 for a 3 inch diameter axle beam, but you're only going to gain the diameter of the...

  • Using Convert-A-Ball Cushioned Ball Mount with Surge Breaks
The Convert-A-Ball cushioned ball mount # AMSC12 is absolutely compatible with the surge breaks on your tow dolly. You may not even notice it the cushion interacting with your surge couple. The way cushion is designed is that the more pressure that is put on it the firmer it gets. The cushion itself is so dense that more force would be needed to compress that cushion than to actuate the surge coupler. Where this ball mount truly shines is when there's a lot of road shock that needs to be...

  • How Does a Lift Kit Affect Towing?
A body lift does not affect towing since it's only the body of your vehicle that's being raised; the stock suspension and wheels remain at their original height. With that being said, from what I was able to research online, your 6 inch Pro Comp Lift Kit may actually be a suspension lift. As far as the actual towing weight capacity is concerned, I am not able to tell you if and how much your 6 inch lift would affect it. I recommend reaching out to the manufacturer (Pro Comp) since they...

  • Does the Cushioning of the Convert a Ball # AMSC12 Allow Much Movement In and Out
Sounds like you are asking how much movement the built in cushion of the Convert a Ball # AMSC12 allows when installed. It really doesn't move much at all. There would be a little bit of movement but for the most part it would not be sliding in and out of the hitch opening at all. The reason for this is that the tongue weight of the trailer pressed hard enough vertically on the ball mount that it pins the ball mount in the hitch.
