Ball Mount Recommendation for an RV Where 12 inches of Drop are Needed to Tow Boat Trailer

Question:

I have a 32foot RV with a hitch capacity of 5000 pounds and a tongue weight of 500 pounds. The hitch is mounted underneath the RV, so an extension of some sort is needed just to get from the back edge of the hitch to the outside edge of the bumper. From the pin to the outside edge of the bumper would be 8.5 inches, plus a few inches will be needed to give room for the ball to be free and clear of the bumper. Due to the height of the RV, I will need a 12inch to make my boat/trailer level. The boat and trailer weigh about 3600 pounds. My local trailer place is REALLY concerned about me towing my boat, as they think a receiver projecting out and down, like I need it to, is going to reduce my hitch capacity significantly. The AMSC12 looks like just what I need. Any thoughts on if this is going to reduce my towing capacity by projecting out the back 12-16 inches, like the diagram shows? Thanks.

The Cushioned Ball Mount # AMSC12 that you referenced would be perfect for you all things considered. It has the drop you need (12 inches), the length you need (12-1/2 inches from pin hole to ball hole).

This should not reduce the hitch capacity of your RV at all. Since your boat and trailer weigh considerably less than the capacity of the hitch you would not have to worry about that. If the weight of your boat and trailer were right at your hitch capacity it would be one thing, but you would be fine with this ball mount for you setup. I attached a review video for this ball mount for you to check out as well.
