Video Transcript for Hopkins Wiring - Wiring Adapters - HM47085 Review

Today we're going to review part number HM47085. This is the Hopkins heavy duty flex coil 7-way to 6-way round trailer connector adapter. This is a heavy duty coil and cable adapter which is compatible with the 7-way RV blade trailer socket that's on your vehicle and it will adapt it to work with your 6-way round connector that's on your trailer. One thing I do want to mention that any time you have a 6-way round of the center pin, on a 6-way round can be wired one of two ways, either as 12 volt power or electric brake output. This adapter happens to be wired as the center pin as an electric brake output so you just want to be aware of that and it is market on each connector, it says center pin is for electric brake so it does let you know that. This is a heavy duty coiled cable, it has a nice weather proof jacketing. The 7-way has a nice finger pulls on it which makes it easy to install and remove.

On the 6-way round what's nice, has a dust cover to protect it when you're not using it and even has this little wire clip that when you do use it and plug in your 6-way you can push this down and that will help hold the connection together so it doesn't pull apart. They do use tin plated terminals on both of the connectors for corrosion resistance. This coiled cable when it's fully stretched goes to about 3 feet in length and again this is for a 7-way RV blade on your vehicle to a 6-way round connector. Again this adapter will work on trailers where that center pin is used for the electric brake signal. That should do it for the review of part number HM 47085, the Hopkins heavy duty flex coil 7-way to 6-way round trailer connector adapter. .

Received my order today. I emailed earlier in the week that I didn’t receive and their response was awesome!! They replied within 4 hours with a detailed response. Would definetely recommend them for any future purchases

by:

This is a very high quality item.

by:

mis-advertised as a 7 pin connector. actually is a 6 pin to 7 pin in that there is no center pin on the large connector.

The function of the center pin on the 7-Way connector is the Reverse Light Signal. A 6-Pin connector doesnt carry a Reverse Light Signal, so including the center pin on the 7-Way on this adapter would only be for show.

I ordered the wrong part, I needed an extension plug to gbetween my travel trailer and pick up truck, male one end, female other.

  • Adapter to Connect 6-Way on Lance Camper to 7-Way on 2016 Chevy Silverado 2500
Assuming you have a standard 6-way plug and not the proprietary Lance plug on your camper you can use the # HM47085. This will plug into the 7-way on the bumper of your truck and connect to the 6-way on the camper. If you have the Lance plug, you will either need to get the Lance adapter or replace the connector with # A7WCB. If you replace the connector you could use an extension like the # C56080. If you're wanting to use the 4-way on the rear of the truck then you would need to add...

  • 2017 Kia Soul Flat Towing Requirements And Specifications
So, in regards to your 2017 Kia Soul, along with # HM47085 and # C63CR you already have, you should not need any more diodes for your vehicle. Since you mentioned your lights stay on after the ignition is turned off, yes, you are going to need a brake light relay kit like the Roadmaster Brake-Lite Relay Kit for Towed Vehicles # RM-88400. I have not heard of the LEDs being an issue on the Kia Soul, as far as I know. If your lights are not functioning as they are intended you likely have...

  • 7-Way to 6-Way Adapter Recommendation that Can Carry Charge Circuit to Tow Vehicle
Sounds like you are looking for a coiled adapter like part # HM47085 which will plug into the 7-way on your RV and has a 6-way on the other side which can carry the 12 volt power source needed to charge your tow vehicle that's using a supplemental braking system. As long as the circuit is active on your RV and you have the correct circuit on the 6-way of your towed vehicle ran to the positive post of your vehicle battery this will work well for you.

The springs that you currently have are a bit odd and we would not offer a direct replacement. Though it is less economical I recommend switching over to the Timbren Axle-Less Suspension # ASR5200S01. This system has 2 independent units that will eliminate the need for a thru axle while also increasing the ground clearance. This system has a weight capacity of 5,200 pounds. The axle spindle needs an Inner Bearing # 25580 and an Outer Bearing # 14125A. The Dexter Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly...

We do have similar 7-Way to 6-Way connectors that do not glow. You could use # HM47083 if you need 12 volt power on the center pin (on the 6-Way end). Or you could use # HM47085 if you need the center pin to pin for electric brake output. These items are much shorter than the Hopkins glowing adapter.

I do have a 7-Way extension that you can use but # HM47085 will not work. You will need # C56080. It may be more length than you need at 7 feet long but it is a true 7-Way extension. The extra length could be held together with wire ties or you could cut it to the length needed and reattach the wires to the connector.

We can help you out with the parts needed to go from your camper's 6-way to the 7-way of your 2014 GMC Sierra 1500. First, if you are looking for a 7-way for the truck bed of your Sierra for the plug-in connection, what you can use is the 5th Wheel/Gooseneck 90-Degree Wiring Harness with 7-Pole Plug # 50-97-410. Instead you will need the Pollak Trailer Connector Adapter - 7-Blade Plug to 7-Pole Round Pin - Nylon # PK12727 which will plug into the 7-way connector you have installed on your 2018 Subaru Outback and then allow you to plug the 7-way round connector on your...

The magnetic tow lights # SPL30B-6 only have stop, tail, and turn signal functions so the 12 volt circuit and brake output circuit won't even be used. So basically it does not matter if the center pin on the adapter is brakes or power. Also, the 6-Way on the tow lights can be opened up so you can change around the wire configuration if needed. Extension # HM47083 is an excellent choice as is # HM47085. I have linked a video review of the latter.

If your trailer has electric drum brakes then a few things could cause them to lock up when they should not be applying at all. There could be a short somewhere in the wiring that is causing 12V power to reach the brake magnets. Bad corrosion inside a connector could cause two circuits to become bridged together. You could also have an issue with your breakaway system that is sending power to the brakes, such as a bad breakaway switch. Another possible cause is use of a wiring adapter...

What I recommend is using # WG54006-043 which is a bit longer at 6 feet but it does have all 7-Way wires running all the way through and it is ready for a 7-Way connector.
