Video Transcript for Review of Draw-Tite Sway Control Weld On Tab - 3442

Hello, friends and neighbors. Steve here with etrailer.com. Today we're looking at this replacement sway control tab for your weight distribution system. Now folks, this will replace the sway control mounting bar for your weight distribution system and it is a well-known application. We highly recommend you get it welded on by a professional, but if you're a DIYer and you know how to weld, go ahead and feel free to tackle it yourself. Now, just in case you're curious, this side over here gets welded on to the ball mount and it does fit the commonly one-on-one quarter inch sway-control little ball there.

Now, as far as some dimensions with this guy, I'm getting four and seven-eighths overall for a length. I was getting right at one and 15 16th of an inch. We can call it two inches if you want, and I was getting about seven-16th so a half inch depending on what you're looking at there. Now the hole again is a five-eighth inch hole. That's kind of a standard size for those little weight distribution balls.

Again, folks, simple weld-on replacement tab. I'm Steven, thanks for watching and have a great day.

We ordered 3 Kenda S-Trail 145/12 tires for our pop-up, along with Reese friction sway control, sway control tab, and a Camco step cover. The order arrived quickly, was complete, and was packed well. We've dealt with etrailer before and this is their usual excellent service. Now to get the tires put on and we'll see how we like them!

Simple tab for adding sway control to a hitch. Keep in mind you need to beable to weld this type of steel or know a welder that can do it properly. etrailer made it simple and cost effective to order.

by:

I have used the friction type sway control across this country north to south and east to west. I have added these tabs to many hitches for this purpose...

Same issue....Could be better not a very square cut...I put a square on it and has a small angle ...I will grind a little off to make it true to mate up to my hitch before I weld it on.....thanks

  • Can Reese Friction Sway Control be Used without Weight Distribution System
Yes, the Reese Friction Sway Control part # 83660 can be used without a weight distribution system. Most people use it without a WD system actually. You will need to add a bracket to your ball mount for the smaller ball to attach. For that we have the part # RP26003 for ball mounts that fit 2 inch hitches. Or if you wanted to weld on a bracket to your current ball mount you could use the part # 3442.

  • Can an Older Utility Trailer Have a Frictions Sway Control Unit Installed on It
Sounds like you are talking about a friction sway control unit for your small utility trailer. For that you could use the # 83660 pretty easily. If you like the ball mount you have you can weld the sway control install tab part # 3442 to the side of it so that you can use it with the sway control or you can use the bracket # RP26005 if you do not want to weld the ball mount. The # 83660 is setup to bolt to the side of a trailer frame, but if you wanted to weld the plate on there's no...

  • Can RP26003 Sway Control Plate Be Used on Left Side of Ball Mount
I do have an option that will allow you to use a sway control bar on the left side of a ball mount, however, the Reese Sway Control adapter plate # RP26003 is designed to be used on the right side only. To be used on the left side, this plate would have to be turned upside down and the lip on the bottom of the plate would not allow the hitch ball to be completely tightened to the plate and the lip would interfere with the operation of the sway control bar. To use a sway control bar on...

  • Sway Control Recommendation for 2018 Keystone 29 Foot Camper
On some but not all of the weight distribution systems, there are two tabs for the sway control system. Sounds like you may already have a ball mount setup for installing a sway control like the part # 83660. Also sounds like you may be interested in adding a second sway bar. Typically, to add a second sway-control bracket to their WD hitch, the Draw-Tite Sway Control Tab, part # 3442 is welded on to the head of the system, giving an additional mount for the sway control ball as you asked...

  • Is There a Way to Use Friction Sway Control with a Ball Mount that Fits a 2-1/2 inch Hitch
Since vehicles that have 2-1/2 inch hitches don't normally use friction sway control as it's not normally needed there aren't any brackets for the smaller balls of the units that are setup for that hitch size but I do have a solution Mehdi. What you would want is the weld on bracket part # 3442 which you would need to have welded to the side of your ball mount and you'd be able to use a friction sway control.

  • Sway Control Bracket Recommendation for a Left Hand Sway Bar
You can use the Curt Ball Mount with Sway Control Bracket, # D320, in the rise position to have the sway control bracket on the left side, but you will want to remember that doing this will raise the height of your trailer tongue by almost 3 inches. This can create additional sway issues even with a sway control bar installed. Another option that you can look into is using a weld on sway control tab like part # 3442. This tab can be welded to the side of your current ball mount to provide...

  • Should 1 Sway Bar or 2 Sway Bars be Used for a 29 Toy Hauler
For any trailer that is over 26 feet long a second friction sway control bar is recommended. To add a second control bar you need to use the Sway Control Tab (Weld On) # 3442 as well as the Friction Sway Control Kit # 83660. The friction sway control units do help with trailer sway but are more of the economical option. I recommend using a weight distribution unit that has the anti-sway feature integrated so that you can back up your trailer without having to disconnect anything. If you...

  • How to Use Friction Sway Control Mounting Bracket on Driver Side
I have a solution for you, but you cannot turn the part # RP26003 upside down to use your sway control on the driver side of your trailer. Instead you would need to weld the tab part # 3442 to the driver side of your ball mount platform.

  • Can a Friction Sway Control Be Used on Both Sides of a Trailer Tongue
The Reese Friction Sway Control, # 83660, that you referenced can be used on both sides of your trailer tongue. You can simply remove the slide bar from the main body assembly and flip it over. The compression plate will be upside down, but it will still work. This is one of our most popular friction sway controls and includes everything that you will need to install the bar. If you are using the sway control without a weight distribution system, then you will want to weld a sway control...

  • Will Sway Control Bracket Fit a 1-1/4" Hitch Ball Shank
Hey Cal! The largest shank size for the "slip-on" style of sway control brackets we have is the Reese Sway-Control Bracket # RP26003 for a 1" shank. Since you need something larger you'll need to have the Sway Control Tab # 3442 welded on to your current ball mount to add that sway control feature. Technically you could try to enlarge the hole on the Reese bracket but then you run the risk of ruining the integrity of the sway control bracket so that isn't necessarily recommended.

  • Solution to Allow Use of Friction Sway Control with Any Ball Mount
Since you need more drop than the ball mount you have now which has a friction sway control attached to side of it the easiest solution would be to go with a bracket like the part # RP26003 which fits over the ball mount platform and allows you to basically use whichever ball mount you need to provide correct rise/drop to tow trailer level. We also have weld on tabs for the bracket as well like with the # 3442. I also attached a link to a page that details how to pick out the correct...

  • Recommended Friction Bar Sway Control For 1-1/4 Inch Receiver With Ball Mount In Rise Position
The Reese Friction Sway Control Kit # 83660 can be used on either the driver or passenger side. The Reese Sway-Control Bracket for 1-1/4" Drawbars - Class II # RP26005 is intended for use only on the passenger side and only in the drop position. In your case, I recommend the Sway Control Tab (Weld On) # 3442 which can be used in the rise position because it is welded directly to your ball mount. There is not an easy adapter for your application that doesn't include welding on a tab like this.

We do not have a sway control bracket that has holes for 2 sway control balls but I do have a solution. You can use the Reese Sway-Control Bracket, part # RP26003 and the weld-on tab, part # 3442. Or you could use two of the # 3442 weld-on tabs. One would be welded to each side of your ball mount and provide the mounts needed for 2 balls. The holes in the # 3442 tab are 5/8 inch diameter and the hole diameter of part # RP26003 is 1 inch. If you need to use two and don't have a weight distribution style head to accommodate that application, you can use # 3442 which is a weld on application for the driver's side.
