Video Transcript for Review of Reese Weight Distribution Hitch - Snap Up Bracket Assembly - RP21501

Hello, everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com Today I'm gonna take a look at this replacement lift bracket for the Reese Weight Distribution Systems. Now, this is a snap-up bracket that'll mount on your trailer tongue and provides the attachment point for the chain on your weight distribution spring bar. So basically this bracket, you can see it has a shape to it. This will go over your trailer frame and then the set-bolt tightens down to hold it to your trailer frame. And then what you'll do is remove your safety pin right up here and then lower this bracket right here and this bracket with the hook on it, this is where your chain that's attached to the end of your spring bar on your weight distribution system will attach to. Once you get the chain on there, then you just lift up on this until it goes all the way up to the top.

The holes line up, put the safety pin through there and then that'll hold the spring with the spring bar attached to it. Now the replacement unit, this is designed for use with the Reese Weight Distribution Systems. It does include the snap-up bracket with the set-screw and the safety pin. Now the installation hardware to attach this to your trailer frame is sold separately. So listed on this product page as a related product.

That's part number 58459 and the set-screw right back here, this is what'll hold the bracket to your trailer frame. And as we showed you, the safety pin is what'll lock the bracket in the raised position. You can see it as a nice black powder coat steel, resists corrosion. Application, this is for Reese Weight Distribution Systems with tongue weight capacity up to 600 pounds. Now, when you do install this on your trailer frame, it installs approximately 30 inches back from the Curt trailer coupler.

Does require about five-and-a-half inches of space along the trailer frame. And this is the part that'll go over the width of the trailer frame, so it will not fit trailer frames wider than two-and-a-half inches. But that should do it for the review on the replacement lift bracket for the Reese Weight Distribution Systems..

The sway bar bracket I purchased a year ago is still working perfectly. Thank you.

by:

Robust, compatible with existing equipment, attachment went smoothly. Only been on the trailer for a year, so it's too soon to evaluate longevity.

Based on your photo, it appears you have the dual cam system of the Reese Strait-Line. I researched your trailer to find a GVWR of 5895. Based on this, we can make some calculated assumptions on the tongue weight. The tongue weight of a trailer is typically 10 to 15%, so that would put you at 590 to 885 lbs. That will make the correct system the Strait-Line Weight Distribution System w Sway Control # RP66084. For the replacement parts you will want the following: Replacement Head...

  • Recommended Chain Hanger Bracket for a EasyTow Boat Trailer
Since you have a fairly uncommon sized tongue on your EasyTow trailer, your best bet is to use the Chain Hangers for Reese Weight Distribution Systems # RP58305. These chain hangers have a 1,400 lb tongue capacity, a 14,000 lb gross towing capacity, and will work with Reese WDS with a tongue weight capacity of up to 600 lbs. However I'm not entirely sure what you mean by towbar, so if you're referring to your trailer's frame then these won't work as they are only designed to work with...

Most chain hanging weight distribution systems use a set screw to hold the chain hanging brackets in place and drilling is not required. This is the case with the Husky round bar systems as well. You will not have to drill. You will tighten the back hex bolt (set screw) by hand until you cannot turn it anymore. Then using a wrench give it another 1/4 turn.

The 3 inch bolt is long enough that it will work with C-channel frames. So provided that it has a weight capacity that can handle your 2000 Aerolite 28 foot trailer, you will be able to use the same weight distribution system.
