I am enclosing 2 photos of trailer connector I purchased from etrailer. I have a 1995 Dutchman popup trailer. It had a 6 way round connector which would not fit my 2010 F150. By using your trailer connector diagrams, I was able to determine Dutchman was using white for the ground, blue for brakes, black for battery, brown for right turn/brake, red for left turn/brake, and green for tail lights. I replaced the 6 way with your 7 way connector.

Quality built product. This connector seems to take less effort to plug in to the 7-flat socket than others that I have installed. Metal housing provides great rigidity. I appreciate that they include the clip to stow the connector when not in use. If I could improve on it, I would prefer the manufacturer find a way to design the inside to be less obstructive to the 7 wires that have to pass through the middle. I use heavily insulated 7-wire harness, and had a difficult time squeezing everything in to the provided space. All said and done, very happy with the product and I do play on purchasing again next time I need another. I would recommend this to any professional installer. My application is 5 different trailers that include surge and electric brake assemblies in a fresh water marine environment on multiple types of vehicles. This produced is plugged and unplugged almost every day.

Excellent corrosion resistance, this product is easily Industrial quality.

by:

Replaced a plastic plug with this one and it is much better. The only issue I have with it is it is very difficult to get the plastic covers at the back to close up on the thick shielded cable I have the trailer wired with. Much easier to plug in and pull out of the truck connector

Jeremy, Hopkins appreciates your business and is grateful you purchased our HM48510 Trailer Connector. If you have any concerns or questions, please get in contact with etrailer customer service.

I changed from hydraulic surge to electric, so I needed a new couple. The install was simple, and towing is much more solid by getting rid of the sloppy slide action coupler with the surge brakes.

The conversion from hydraulic to electric is something I should have done when I first bought the trailer. The parts are working great! I want to say things are working better now than when the trailer was new. It pulls easier, sways less, and stops with confidence.

by:

Got this to replace prior plastic unit that had broken. Quality of unit was much better than prior. Only issue was that one internal lug was stripped out and had to use a nut behind the lug to secure the wire. Best alternative I have found to cheaper plastic units.

Still working as expected.

by:

While this seems like a quality product, it will NOT fit the typical 6- or 7-conductor pigtail cable found on most larger trailers and RVs. I tried modifying it by cutting away some of the internal plastic ribs, but I still can't get the backshell to clamp down properly. It may work fine for trailers that use a smaller cable. I do like the storage clip, so I'll be using that since I can't return mine anyway. I'll be ordering a complete replacement cable with molded connector to repair my trailer.

by:

I have installed this plug and my only problem is that the plastic connector at the rear has a limited amount of room for the wires. The Power chair lift has 2 #10 Wires for Power and 2 #10 wires for Ground plus the Normal Break and tail light wires. I could not use the Rubber in the rear at all and barely was able to get the wires to clear to install the plastic sides. The connector otherwise is well made and I really like the bracket to hold the plug when not in use. Thank you George and etrailer for your rapid response.

by:

This plug works great once it is wired in. The only problem I have with it is that it does not receive the wire in a way that makes it easy to assemble, and I'm talking about the housing at the rear of the plug. The connection points are very easy to make up. Once you finally get it all together. It is very durable and weather proof.

As a follow up, its been a year and I have not had any problems with this product.

by:

Pros: metal body, rubber moisture o-ring, hanger included.
Cons: the "pistol" grip is made of plastic and when 7 wires are in place the screw stripped out of the plastic almost immediately as it has only 3-4 threads into the receiving cover.
30 year auto/electric technician and towing experience. Hoping to salvage it with a longer screw and external nut slightly recessed into the plastic cover.

by:

Was a bit in doubt about the plastic end piece being robust enough but after wiring and using this connector, I am impressed.
The product is well thought out and well made. The folks at Etrailer are the best. George did a great job and the communication was superb.

by:

It's been a long while since I've ordered anything from etrailer, but, as usual, you folks came through in flying colors. The package was boxed well, shipped on time and the correct products, that's a real plus in today's internet shopping zone.

best connector on the market !!!!!

Still going strong !!

by:

The Hopkins Metal Connector is an excellent product, the only issue I had is with the packing/instructions. All of the poles were NOT identified in the instruction diagram; there were arrows pointing to them, but no letter code denoting what connection they were intended for; such as RT, BU, TM, Acc, etc. Some poles were identified but not all of them.

by:

This is to replace an old plastic connector on my Silver Streak trailer. This one has a metal case so it should live much longer than the old plastic one. Wires connect much easier on this design. Thank you for a great product.

by:

Very heavy duty. Looks great and works well. Only thing I would like is more room to run wires. Remember to run half of your wires on each side of the metal divider inside the plastic handle. I made this mistake and ended up with some broken insulation and needed to repair.

by:

very sturdy 7 way plug. a snug fit storage cover would be a nice addition to this kit.

by:

We really like this plug over the cheaper plastic ones. The contact screws don't move around and risk touching eachother. It is a really good plug for just a few dollar more than the cheaper ones.

by:

Great Item. like having the holder for the connector, I need to show family and friends why the holder is there:)

by:

Works great, Very easy to install. The rubber plug in the back is the only difficult part to deal with. I Place a dab of silicone around it to make a better water proof fit.

by:

Received part and installed on trailer. Checked wiring to be in correct position and all works great. Thank you.

by:

Probably a good product but the screw that holds the halves tiger strips easily. And 7 wire doesn't route very easily inside plastic cover.

by:

The tip is robust and looks strong, but the grip design and the way the wire has to flow through it was absolutely useless for my application. This is junk that will be going in the trash and I will be looking elsewhere.

by:

Routing the wires is very tight and the small screw that holds the 2 halves together at the back stripped out very easily. I made a fix and haven't had any problems with it.

by:

Easy install, same as original

by:

finding the item was fast an easy on your web site and the shipping of the item was unreal, I received the item in approximately two days. This is the second time I ordered from etrailer.com and am extremely happy with the prompt service in filling my order

  • Mounting Bracket Replacement for the Hopkins Endurance Metal Trailer Connector
For a similar mounting bracket to what comes with the # HM48510 you would want the part # 118152. Unfortunately, this # 118152 bracket is no longer available individually, so the only way to get one would be to get a new plug # HM48510.

  • Installation of Wiring Color/Functions on Hopkins Endurance Trailer Connector
The Hopkins Endurance Metal Trailer Connector # HM48510 will have the black 12V wire connection at the 1 o'clock position when looking at the back side of the connector where the wiring will secure to the connector. The color and functions don't always match with Hopkins, so I recommend following the function locations in the attached diagram.

  • How Do You Wire a 7-Way to Trailer with Black, White, Yellow, Green, and Brown Wires
I cannot know for certain but I can say that generally, the black wire is for 12 volt power, the white wire is for ground, the yellow wire is for left turn/brake, the green wire is for right turn/brake, and the brown wire is for running lights. This will give you a good idea of what the wire colors represent but as there is not really a standard wire color to function chart it will be necessary to test the lights for functions with a circuit tester. This will be the best way to install...

  • Random Trailer Disconnected Message on 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 LTD
In most cases, the random trailer brake disconnected message on the in-dash display of your pickup with factory trailer brake controller is caused by a loose connection between the vehicle and trailer. I recommended first inspecting the plug on either side to ensure the pins are all straight and free of corrosion. If this checks out I recommend replacing the trailer side plug first using the Hopkins Endurance Metal Trailer Connector part # HM48510 but if this does not work you'll need to...

  • No Trailer Lights When Towing with 2003 Ford F-350
I cannot say for certain but based on what you described there are either blown fuses or issues with the trailer connectors. I would first start off checking the fuses. I looked in the owner's manual for your 2003 Ford F-350 and found the following fuses/relays that relate to the trailer lights on your F-350; 6, 38, 39, 101, 115, and 305. These fuses/relays are in the fuse box under the hood. If the fuses/relays are all good then you need to turn your attention to the trailer connectors....

  • Trailer Connector Compatibility When Using Adapters
The Hopkins Endurance Metal Trailer Connector part # HM48510 is a trailer-side 7-way plug that mates with a 7-way vehicle socket, such as # 37185. If your goal is to re-wire your trailer's 4-pole or 5-pole flat type connector then this part will allow that, but you will need to wire the trailer for the additional circuits in a 7-way configuration in order for them to be active. Changing the connector alone does not add circuits to the wiring set-up. Installing the Hopkins part on 4-pole...

  • Factory Brake Controller on 2010 Ford F350 Isnt Activating HydraStar Electric/Hydraulic Actuator
The factory brake controller should be compatible with the # HBA-10 brake actuator. The first thing I'd recommend you do is closely examine the 7-way connector on the vehicle and on the trailer. A corroded or damaged connector would explain the intermittent problem your controller is having reading the trailer. If you need to replace the connector on the truck, part # HM40975 would be a good replacement, or for the trailer, you'd use # HM48510. Since the actuator is working with the override...

Like most 7-ways the biggest wire thickness you'd be able to use is right at 10 gauge like # 10-1-1.

The most common trailer connector that would be found on a pickup truck would be a 7-way blade style, like the # PK11893 you referenced. If this is what you have on your truck, you can go with a trailer side plug like part # HM48510. If you want a plug and lead combination,...
