The Hopkins Endurance Metal Trailer Connector part # HM48510 is a trailer-side 7-way plug that mates with a 7-way vehicle socket, such as # 37185. If your goal is to re-wire your trailer's 4-pole or 5-pole flat type connector then this part will allow that, but you will need to wire the trailer for the additional circuits in a 7-way configuration in order for them to be active. Changing the connector alone does not add circuits to the wiring set-up. Installing the Hopkins part on 4-pole trailer wiring gives you the same functions but in s different connector format.
We also offer adapter products that allow connection of different types of trailer wiring. All are shown on the linked page. For instance, Pollak part # PK12716 is a 7-Way to 4-Pole Connector Adapter that would plug in to a vehicle 7-way socket and then provide a 4-pole connection point for the trailer's 4-pole plug.
You can refer to the linked article for more details on trailer wiring set-ups.
