I purchased this Fulton (142418) XLT 2-Speed (2,600lbs) to replace the original Fulton XLT 1401(1,400 lbs) winch on my Sanger V230 boat trailer. Our winch was hit and the metal housing was bent, but still useable. Unfortunately, the strap got stuck in the gears because the metal housing no longer correctly guided the strap (which was getting old) and it started to tear. I researched several and due to possible mounting restrictions with others, I settled on this one. The installation wasn't difficult, but it would have been nice to have some sort of instructions for a starting point. I found an online video, but it didn't actually show the install. A little fumbling around and it was installed in about 30 minutes. This one is a bit bigger than the old one, but it fit with no problems or need to drill any additional holes (which I really wanted to avoid). The only negative I have with this winch is the strap release/wind lever on the bottom. When it is engaged to bring the strap in, the lever is almost fully retracted inside of the plastic housing. This may not be an issue for some...but I have long nails and getting that lever (especially if there is any tension on the strap) out isn't as easy as on my old one. Other than that, it's a great replacement product and we are happy with it thus far. The product arrived in time to save my daughter's 15th birthday weekend with her friends! Website had the information and pictures I needed to make my decision, and great customer service! Thank you!

To start with my prior winch was a Fulton XLT and my only complaint was it was was rated for 1400lb. I own a Nitro Z-8 with a 250 Merc. and not every launch is perfect nor is water levels consistent. Many times you find yourself pulling your boat on the trailer with the winch and a 1400lb winch isn't beefy enough to handle the stress and will eventually fail. This 2600lb Fulton XLT winch is a better match to handle the weight and abuse that a tournament bass fisherman is enevidably going to have to deal with. The added third plate of teeth ensures the durability of this unit and sells itself. As far as etrailer.com, this is not my first order from them and I've never ordered anything from any other .com that has shipped my order faster than they have. Most of us who need parts , need them yesterday and how many times I fell sucker to the promise of fast shipping only to find out that it takes days for the handling of your part just to get pulled from the shelf, let alone reach the shipper! (Not Etrailer.com) Need a part to get on the water or to bring the family to the campgrounds......etrailer.com....competitive price, quality products and shipping that will make you feel like they're right next door!

After a year of use with multiple tournament trails, requiring more than average trailering and this winch still impresses me. Facing a multitude of launch environments, grade, water levels, pad materials and this winch time and time again proves it’s integrity. A great product sold by a great dot com company...... etrailer.com , you can’t go wrong!

Fantastic, still looking new and working great!

Awesome winch!! Was the perfect upgrade for my boat trailer!!

by:

Provided the upgrade I was looking for from a smaller Fulton Winch on a Boatmate Trailer. Went on with relative ease using the existing holes on the trailer. I used it this weekend with no issues. As is identified in the overall description it does NOT come with hardware. Extremely fast shipping.

One year later no issues. Nice upgrade.

I ordered this winch and the nice lady assured me it would be delivered Thursday. And, wow, there it was right there on my porch this morning (Thursday). So the delivery was as promised: prompt as promised. One problem though, the handle to the winch wasn't in the box. I guess one "black" mark amid the good ones can't be too bad. Hope to have the handle by early next week. We shall see.
I would have taken a picture to send...but how does one take picture of an invisible winch handle?

Although Ive used this product sparingly since last year, it still works perfectly...just the way it should.

by:

This is a well built and well designed winch. The retrieve (1st or 2nd) selector is easy to operate and so is the pawl engagement selector. The retrieve is smooth and the larger drum means more strap or cable per revolution retrieved.

by:

I own two of these for my boats.....A superb piece of equipment!....Makes loading a boat even if it is heavy a breeze!.... the free spool ability is a great plus when pulling out the line.... The only thing to remember is to pull it out slowly or the spool will lock....Also, I needed to add a different mounting plate to both trailers to make it fit, but it was worth it.....This is by far the best winch I have ever owned.......

by:

Ashley - Thanks for your great service - I got the winch the day after I ordered it - It appears to be a well built quality unit - unfortunately, my boat trailer was in the shop for wheel bering problems so I lacked the ability to verify mounting space required for the new winch and there was not enough space to mount it on the trailer - fortunately a local machine shop/welding service is welding on a larger mounting plate on the trailer and drilling the required bolt holes and I will be back in business this week.

by:

The winch is heavy duty and as advertised. I am mounting it in my cargo trailer floor, so I had to build a mount 8” high to allow for the crank handle. It is not a ratchet style frank but for the money it’s well worth it. It was shipped promptly and arrived within 4 days. I’d by from etrailer again.

by:

I like this winch a lot. Having the low gear really helps when the boat is about two feet from the winch. I have a bunk trailerand it pretty difficult to crank up the rest of the way with the weight of the heavy of the 115hp and 8hp four strokes hanging on the transom.

by:

What a difference, very smooth and a lot easier than the stock winch.

by:

So far so good. I did have to drill another hole in the mounting plate since I didn’t measure correctly. Also had to reuse the handle off my original winch (forgot to measure this) since the handle was to long that came with the new one. As soon as I take my boat out I’ll write a follow up on how it worked.

by:

The quality of the product is 1st rate. Has been in use in a saltwater environment along the coast for over a yr. very little corrosion.
The winch cable is holding up well no frays.

by:

This is a replacement for the same brand that was undersized for the weight of the boat.
The unit mounted easily in the mounting holes in the trailer.

by:

Great fit fast response!

by:

Game changer. All the guys on the ramp wonder how my fiancé can crank my Wakesetter onto the trailer while I’m inside getting the boat ready to travel. She just smiles and drives away while they struggle.

by:

Great improvement over the winch that came on my Ranger Z185 trailer, faster and much easier, to other Z185 owners the 10in handle is too long it hits the boat, order the 8in handle instead, great product!

by:

Bought this to replace an older smaller winch that got jammed when we overtightened it. It fit the same holes and works great. I had to run the strap from the bottom of the reel because of the way it was mounted, but that was no problem.

by:

Nicely made / looks durable for coastal air

by:

Wanted to increase winch capacity on my boat trailer. This should work well.

by:

works great, helps load my Nitro Z 18 on the trailer with ease.

by:

This is the second one i have purchased for another boat.....well built and operates with ease.....a true pleasure to own......

  • Recommended Replacement Winch To Replace Fulton XLT1401 For 3500 Lb Boat
Generally when picking out a winch for a boat trailer the ratio is 2 to 1 meaning you would need a winch with half the capacity as the weight of the boat. Since the winch is only pulling the boat, you don't really need to consider the trailer weight. I recommend to upgrade to the Fulton XLT 2-Speed Trailer Winch with Heavy Duty 20' Strap part # F142418 which will work really well with the 3500 lb boat even when full of fuel. The XLT is a 2 speed winch with 2,600 lb capacity and an included...

  • Will a Shorter Handle Fit Fulton XLT Winch # F142418
The 9 inch handle, # F501109, is the shortest we have for Fulton XLT winch # F142418. One thing to be aware of when using a shorter handle is that the winch will be harder to crank. If you were to go smaller than 9 inches it would get even harder. Is it at all possible to move the winch further from the boat? Because if so that combined with the slightly shorter handle could work out well.

  • Overall Dimensions of Fulton XLT 2-Speed Trailer Winch F142418
I went to our warehouse to measure the overall dimensions of the Fulton XLT 2-Speed Trailer Winch # F142418. The main housing measures 6-1/2 W x 10-1/2 L x 7-inches tall. Since the housing has a slightly curved shape these dimensions are approximate. Also, these dimensions are taken without attaching the included handle. This winch includes a standard steel mounting plate designed to provide a good fit on most winch mounts. The steel mounting plate measures 5-1/2 x 7-inches.
