BoatBuckle's second-generation transom tie-down straps bolt to the rear crossmembers of your trailer and simplify the securing and unloading of your boat. They are designed to keep constant tension on the strap and require minimal ratcheting to secure your load. Instead of always having to find and store tie-down straps that hook to the tie-down anchors on the back of your boat, BoatBuckle's straps are always right where you need them. Just pull up on the hook and strap, attach the hook to the transom, and then operate the ratchet several times. No more dealing with extra webbing or looking for the tie-down strap. And when unloading, simply push the release button on the ratchet, free the hook from the transom anchor and let the strap retract back down into the ratchet.

Installation

These straps come with the mounting hardware that you'll need to install them. It is recommended that you use anti-seize (LT37616 - sold separately) to ensure that the nuts are properly tightened down over the bolts. You can mount the ratchets with the included bolts directly to the trailer frame or crossmember. If you need to angle the ratchet strap or move it a little farther off the frame, a universal mounting kit (IMF14254 - sold separately) is available.

Note: Transom tie-downs should always be used along with a winch strap and a pair of gunwale tie-downs. All straps and cables should be chosen according to their safe working load limit (WLL). To determine the maximum load, or break strength, of the strap, simply multiply the WLL by 3. The WLL is always one-third (1/3) of the maximum load. It is recommended that you always use straps in pairs.

I ordered this for my new Tracker Boat and I’m extremely satisfied with my purchase. Loading and unloading my boat is quicker now and there’s no more dealing with the straps that you have to take off or put on.
These are super sturdy.

These boat tie-downs are still functional as they were when I first mounted them on my boat. I use my boat monthly. The tie-downs show no sign of rust or weathering. I’m super satisfied I made this purchase!!

@Kenny We're glad to hear that!

The package says 2500 lbs per ratchet so need to correct the description.
I replaced the ones that were worn out with another brand last year and they just didn't work good, were heavy enough, but decided to change again. These should last a while. I've had many sets over the years

James

Still good.

by:

These are a new design. I went back to trailer tie downs rather than the cheap knock offs from the auto parts store. I am over the moon happy with the improvements. So much so I bought another set for my other trailer. Awesome work. They came quick and well packaged happy all around.

by:

One of the retractable straps works flawlessly, the other slips 1/2 of the time.

I can understand that you would want confidence that the strap will hold. Would you be able to send a picture of the straps in use? I will reach out to the manufacturer about your experience.

by:

Awesome tie down. I'm a hot air balloon pilot and use the tie downs to secure my basket / cart in my trailer.

by:

Fifteen minute install using the existing tabs on my Skeeter trailer. Installed this morning but have not used them other than to strap my boat down after replacing the cheap factory tie downs.
Seem to be decent quality and the weight is far greater than expected. I think these will last a long time if not abused.

No problems and makes securing my boat a snap

Still working like a new one they secure my boat to the trailer with ease. This was one of the best additions I have made to my boat trailer. Highly recommend for anyone.

by:

These were easy to install and made securing the stern of our boat to the trailer fast and easy. Bolted right to the trailer, not in a bucket somewhere. Take seconds to tighten and release. Great product. Did two winters in and out of salt water in Florida and no problems.

by:

Excellent service and very prompt delivery. Great product.

Gerry

1/22/2024

Best tie downs on the market. Try them one time and you won’t go back to any other type. Delivery was fast and complete.

by:

Should be way more convenient than regular ratchet straps!

Dave

Fantastic. Still works like new. So much better than using ratchet straps!

by:

I ordered tires in the past from etrailer for our boat trailer..so I ordered tie downs for back of boat to avoid bouncing on rough roads..they came within a week..I was so surprised..they are fast delivery on standard shipping..very nice quality products..carton has directions for quick release.. very pleased and will order more from them in future when we need something..thank you etrailer..

by:

This makes securing your boat to the trailer a snap. Easy on and easy off without having to carry the strap. But best of all, no more getting your fingers pinched in the snap buckle!

Joseph

Working great! Makes tying down the boat a snap.

by:

Great ratchet straps, put on a bass boat trailer.

by:

My cousin has these tie downs on his expensive bass boat. I used to always use some ratchet straps and they were a pain to deploy and keep up with. I installed a set on the big aluminum boat and the old ski boat. Why I did not do this years ago? They are great. Just pull them up, attach, give it a couple clicks. Very secure. Have had them for over a year and could not be happier.

by:

The old Rod Saver cam-type hold-down straps on my boat trailer had become increasingly difficult to properly tension. After a 15 minute installation of these Boat Buckle straps, I know why others like them. They’re super quick to hook and properly tension, and I no longer have to carry straps to my truck before launching our boat.

Robert

3/6/2022

After spending 5 to 10 minutes to get my oil cal straps to the proper tension each time I loaded my boat, these ratchet straps take less than 15 seconds to hook and tension on each side. Great product!

by:

Exactly as described. Best price around. Etrailer is my go to store for all trailer needs. It should be yours too!

by:

Absolutely great! They couldn't be more convenient.

Big J.

11/14/2023

Just great. They still work like the day I got them. These buckles are super convenient to use.

by:

Boat buckles are a great product I have them on all my boat trailers they are easy to use and no more fussing around with storing your transom straps

James S.

7/1/2021

Boat buckles are a great product I have a set that’s 15 years old and still work great

by:

Where have you been with all my boats over the years?
I no longer have to worry about where to put my straps after we launch the boat. The retractable strap is quick-out of the way- don't have to scrounge getting the straps anymore. The bolts are heavier enough to hold my 26' cutty cabin.
Best investment ever

Gerard M.

11/17/2019

Hey! When you got the best, need I say anymore. They look as if I put them on today

by:

If you are looking for an easy and secure method of keeping your boat in place these are the ticket. I have them on the back of my Thunderjet Luxor. I replaced the originals with these and they work much better.

by:

New boat didn't come with Boat Buckles, it was my first purchase for the new boat. Outstanding product, I had these on my previous boat. Etrailer has always provided fast shipping at great prices..thanks!!!

by:

These boat buckles are awesome! I wish I would have known about them sooner

Doug

8/26/2022

It is awesome. Couldn’t be any happier with this purchase

by:

Easy to install. No more having to store tie downs. Less time spent at the ramp.

by:

These are the same straps used by a few of my friends and they are solid and work well.
I chose to install these to my Tracker Trailer for my old Nitro. They seem to work well.

  • BoatBuckle G2 Retractable Transom Tie Down Straps For a 3,000LB Wooden Boat
If you are set on a G2 style transom strap the BoatBuckle Mini G2 Retractable, Ratcheting Transom Tie-Downs # IMF106877 will be 6' in length. These are the only straps over 43" that BoatBuckle has in a transom strap. Each strap has a working load limit of 466lbs. Remember that since you are securing the boat to the trailer the working load is considered for the lightest object. So rather than considering holding a 3,000lb boat to the trailer, you will consider it as holding your trailer...

  • Replacement Bunk Carpet, Winch, and Transom Tie Down for Boat Trailer
For a winch you will need to choose the right one based on the weight of your boat and the trailer setup. A common ratio for determining your winch load capacity is 2:1. For example, a 2,200-lb boat generally requires a 1,100-lb winch. If the same boat were winched a short distance with a low incline and with rollers in good condition, it can be safely winched with a 900-lb winch. The boat requires a winch with a 2,200-lb capacity if you are winching a longer distance with more resistance;...

Drilling into the crossmember at the back of the boat trailer to add the BoatBuckle G2 Retractable, Ratcheting Transom Tie-Down Straps # IMF08893 should not have any adverse effects on the strength of the trailer. You could bolt the BoatBuckle G2 Retractable, Ratcheting Transom Tie-Downs # IMF08893 to the aluminum trailer frame provided you used aluminum mounting hardware instead of steel. The only other way, like you said, would be to add an extension piece to make it easier to reach the tie down. There isn't a specific extension for this purpose so you would need to fabricate one using materials from a home improvement store. If you add an extension you will want to be careful not to over-tighten...

  • Recommended Tie-Down Straps For 10,000lb Boat
The break strength of the strap needs to exceed the weight of your trailer. While this sounds strange, you want to choose a strap based on the lightest item that is being strapped, in this case, the trailer and not your 10,000lb boat. If your trailer weighs less than 2,500lbs, which I imagine it does, then I recommend going with BoatBuckle G2 Retractable, Ratcheting Transom Tie-Down Straps - 43" Long # IMF08893 which has a break strength of 2,500lbs. • Why Does Stainless Steel BoatBuckle Tie-Downs Have Lower Break Strength Than Standard Steel Model
I spoke with my contact at BoatBuckle regarding the difference in break strength between the G2 Ratchet Tie-Downs in Stainless Steel # IMF14256 and the Standard # IMF08893. He said the main reason the stainless steel model has a lower break strength of 500 pounds (compared to 833 pounds on the standard steel model) is that stainless steel is just a softer metal. This means that it's breaking point is going to come at a lower weight than a stronger standard steel design. The benefits...
