What's up, everybody This is A.J. with etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna be taking a look at this spare tire carrier from Demco. As you can see, we got two of 'em installed on the trailer. You're not gonna want two of 'em at the same time but just wanted to show you your options. You got the silver one over there or the black powder coat one over here.
Either way, whatever fits your trailer or whatever you wanna put on there. It gets the tire out of the trailer, up here, saving you space there to load up with more stuff. Taking a closer look at the different finishes here, you see the silver one is actually smoother than the black powder coat one. It doesn't have the dimples and stuff like that in it, as this one, the black powder coat one, does, which actually this one matches the trailer more, so we'll probably stick with this one 'cause it blends right in. The brackets here sandwich the frame and it's strong enough to where I'm gonna shake the whole thing.
It's not going anywhere. This carrier's not moving. It's gonna keep the tire on here nice and secure. Now this spare tire carrier is made to fit the bolt patterns of four on four and five on five and a half. Now how it accommodates all the different bolt patterns is you just loosen this bolt here in the middle, which moves this, backs his plate off, which gives the bolts room to move around.
They sit in this groove in the back and that's, you know, as the plate tightens up, it keeps them in place. You loosen it, you can move them freely to fit the bolt pattern of your tire. And once you find that right spacing for it on your tire, you tighten this middle bolt back down and it'll be stuck in place. Now, it's kind of hard to do in its upright position like it is right now, but in the install we'll show you an easier way to do it with your tire. Now whether you pick the silver finish or the black power coat finish they both have a 500-hour salt spray rating, which means it's gonna hold up to rust and corrosion.
Overall, I think the spare tire carrier from Demco is a great option. Keeps your tire up and outta the back of your trailer, giving you more room for the stuff you wanna haul. Keeps it up here on the side, I can still work my jack. If you had a toolbox here, you can still get to that because the other ways you can mount a spare tire is the U bolts. Well, those usually lay right here on the A-frame of the trailer, and it's just not a lot of room for that. It would be in the way of this handle or whatever I need to get to. Or even put on the trailer, it could stick out more. It's just, that's not what I want. I want it up and outta the way like this and it just provides the benefits of being able to do that. Another thing is it's really easy to install, so let me show you how we did that. Okay, so the first thing we're gonna do before you get it installed is let's go ahead and line up our bolts to the bolt pattern on our tire. It's way easier to do it now than when it's sitting up and you loosen this and the bolts move all over and you have to try and do that several times. You should do it here, trust me. So we're going loosen this a little bit. We already had it set earlier but I just wanna show you how to do it. So now that these are loose and you get it, you'll wanna put your tire on top. There we go. So now we know it fits this bolt pattern, we can tighten this back down and it's good to go when we put it on the trailer. And now we wanna go ahead and put our carrier on the frame in the position we want it. I think we'll put it right about here. Make sure you give the tire enough space from the trailer here, that way it doesn't hit. We might move it out here just a little bit more, give it plenty of room. Setting this on top, go ahead and drop the bolts now. You have four these, drop into place. Gonna put the plate on here and just do these, hand-tighten. Put the nuts on, hand-tighten them to the bolts, and then I'll double check and make sure that the frame is in the middle 'cause if you don't line it up like that, then the plate's gonna, like, when you tighten down, it might go like that slightly or twist like that. We want it nice and in the middle, that way the pressure holds it evenly. All right, now we'll go ahead and tighten down our nuts. Now I'm gonna kind of go around and try to get 'em on there evenly. Look at that, it's on there nice. I'm still gonna give a couple more turns with this, just to be sure. Now it's time to put a tire up there. Now this is what I was trying to say earlier, you know, we've had it laid on the floor and we got these bolts spaced out to the bolt pattern here. It's way easier to do that when it's on the ground and tightening and loosening than trying to loosen this and have these falling up and down, fumbling with the tire up there. We got it all in place so it should just go right in there. Fits just fine. Now we'll put on the lug nuts. The lug nuts aren't included in with the spare tire carrier. You'll need to make sure you get the right ones, depending on the rim of your tire. You know, if you have steel or aluminum, make sure you get the appropriate lug nuts. So you're gonna wanna put these on hand tight now, then I'll tighten 'em down. And once you get the lug nuts tightened down, you're good to go. And that does it for a look at the Demco spare tire carrier..

Trailer tongue tire carrier mounts your spare tire up and out of the way. Base attaches around trailer tongues up to 4" tall x 3-1/2" wide. Wheel bolt pattern from 4 on 4" to 8 on 6-1/2". Black powder coat resists corrosion.I like the quality of this carrier but the description indicates that it fits a 4”x4” trailer tongue. The bolt pattern in one direction is 4 1/2” and the bolt pattern in the other direction is 3 1/2” (inside hole to inside hole) so it will not fit on my 4”x4” RV bumper without modification. I like the carrier enough that I will modify it to fit my RV and would recommend etrailer update the description. Also, there is already rust forming behind the upright support. If it weren’t for these two issues, I would have rated the product a 5..
This has been an excellent accessory to my motorcycle trailer as it allows much more room to maneuver people, motorcycles and equipment around without constantly bumping into the spare. This is a quality built item that stays put once installed. Actually looks great and has enough adjustability to center itself so that it looks OEM once installed. I needed to order longer screws for my aluminum trailer frame but they were inexpensive and fit perfectly. I also ordered a locking hard-cover for the spare so it’s secure and looks great too.
Good quality product. Doesn’t fit a 235/80/16 tire. Needs to be two inches taller.

You mentioned that it did not fit with your 235 80 16 tire and I wanted to ask a few follow up questions. Would you be able to send a picture to show how it is not fitting? What is the bolt pattern of your rim?

Here are three pictures of the tire and mount. I already have made a fix for it. So I’m good now. But l am trying to let you all know that for a 2358016 tire it’s to short. On the first picture the bolt in the center of the rim is the highest adjustment that it can go. So it doesn’t catch the top of the bolt pattern on the rim. So I got so flat stock and extended it. So it’s all good now. Thank you

I reached out to the manufacturer about your experience with the spare tire carrier. Since the carrier works with a wide range of bolt patters, the tire size can vary drastically and they do not have a specific max tire diameter that will or will not work. There are too many variables to take into account. The modifications that you did will work as long as the bottom side of the tire rests on the bottom plate of the tire carrier. There should be enough support on the bottom side of the mount to withstand that tire
This tire carrier mount works great, super easy to install on our race car trailer and we no longer are tripping over the spare trailer tire inside the trailer at the race track. And if we ever get another trailer it will be easy to transfer over to that trailer.
the Demco Spare Tire Carrier.....Great product, well made. Works as advertised...Only improvement would be if Demco furnished the two lug nuts.
Price was fair with included shipping. It was delivered in 4 days!! It only fits up to 4in channel trailer tongue. My trailer has a 6" channel tongue so purchased (separately) 8" carriage bolts to work on the larger channel. Worked great! 225/75/15 tire fit perfectly.
Easy to install and able to mount on the front of my trailer so I can still open my backdoor on my Toyota FJ.
15 inch spare wheel and tire fits the front of my 5 x 8 v-nose trailer nicely with room to turn the hitch crank handle. Wish they had included a couple of 1/2 x 20 tpi trailer lug nuts. But I am otherwise very happy with the purchase. Very heavy duty.
This tire carrier is very heavy duty. It is easy to install. I needed my tire to be mounted on the front of the trailer tongue. This solves that issue. The bolts that hold the tire are adjustable so it can take any tire you have. The only thing I think would help would be the lug nuts to be included or suggested to be purchased in addition to the carrier so that the right ones are used.

Still working as needed
Solid piece of gear. Works as advertised. Love etrailer!
It mounted up as described with little difficulty and holds the spare tire solidly.
Very robust design! This is going to stand up well.
Great product. Very well constructed. Great communication with trailers during the purchasing and shipping. Will definitely use trailers again
It’s solve my spare tire problem
Took me a long time to find a product like this but it was exactly what I was looking for.
