Bias Tires vs. Radial Tires

Bias vs. radial tire graphic

Bias ply tires are designed for off-road or agricultural applications. They are built with thick, durable nylon cords that are positioned at a 30- to 45-degree angle to the direction of travel. The layers alternate in a crisscross pattern, making the sidewalls stiffer so that the entire tire is able to flex easily. As a result, the tire provides a smooth ride and improved handling when trailering on uneven surfaces.

Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

A good alternative to 20.5 x 8-10 tires

Tire arrived in good condition, and it fits my trailer

by:

I received my boat trailer tires from etrailer sooner then I expected. I am very pleased with the product. I would definitely recommend them to all of my boating and fishing friends.

by:

The reservoir I fish at has a questionable ramp. I removed the 12 inch tires and replaced them with the 8 inch. This puts it a little closer to the water and I don't have to back in as far. Retrieval will also be better. Fast, accurate service with a very reasonable price. Thanks for everything.

by:

by:

Perfect replacement for a large kayak kayak trailer.

by:

I put the tires with wheels on my trailer this morning. Haven't had an occasion to use the trailer to transport my riding mower, but the wheels and tires look fine. I had some misgivings about buying wheels and tires online because of the hassle of returning them should they not fit. The description of the of the tires and wheels was complete and they fit my trailer just fine. I'll buy again from etrailer.com.

A year later and still holding up like day one. Perfect tire for small yard utility trailer.

by:

Timely and the right part! Thank you!

by:

I ordered the tire/wheel as a spare for a Mini-Mate pop-up tent trailer. It did not come with a spare. I also ordered the mounting bracket. Both arrived in same box and were delivered very promptly. I am very satisfied with product as well as the service and highly recommend this company.

by:

Wonderful

by:

Upgrading my two boat trailers and tires, rims and lugs a priority. E-trailer had both sizes I needed and delivery was very prompt.
Last year I ordered new taillights.
Two years ago ordered car hitch.

Best resource for all things trailers.

by:

My order arrived much sooner than I expected. Packaging is always excellent and the service from the E-trailer team members is beyond compare. Online site is super easy to search and prices are excellent. I needed the wheel/tires for a Kayak trailer. Thank you again etrailer and Natalie in particular for all her help!!

by:

This tire and wheel was a perfect replacement for my old, under-rated set. They came fully pressurized ready to be mounted. I'm impressed with the tread, they should last a long time.

The packaging for the items shipped was heavy duty and delivered fast.

by:

Super Fast shipping and products is as advertised quick installation. Buy with confidence

by:

Arrived in expected time frame. Tires appear to be good quality out of the box. No paint or rubber defects. The product fit as it should. Time will tell if the product is quality .

Service from Etrailer was 4/5.

Rating the product is not going to be accurate until the product is tested.

by:

The quality of the products was only surpasses by the speed with which I received then. The tires and rims seem to be top quality. Of course, I will know more after a few miles on them.

I will be hauling my boat and jet skis on the interstate and needed better equipment as well as spares for out on the road. I certainly felt that these were affordable and will make very cheap insurance for not leaving my boat on the side of the road.

I would certainly recommend etrailer.com to anyone.

by:

Nice little tire and rim for my trailer. Shipped fast and was installed in ten minutes.
Loved the whole experience especially the price.

by:

great tires & wheels, love the quick delivery and fine product. Will definitely use these guys again.

by:

I was VERY impressed with the tutorial videos on measuring my existing wheels, the ease to order, the quick shipment/ delivery in spite of the restrictions caused by the Covid-19. The wheels were packaged well, and the quality was exactly what I had hoped. Best prices I found, excellent service and top quality etrailer is the total package, the way all companies should be. Thanks so much!

  • I Want a Larger Tire for my Coleman Pop Up Camper That has Tire Size 4.80/4.00-8
We have what you're looking for. Depending on the amount of room that you have is going to determine the size you can go up to. The original tire that you have like the Kenda 4.80/4.00-8 Bias Trailer Tire part # AM30060 is about 16.1" Tall and 4.6" wide. The first notable step up would be a Kenda 215/60-8 Bias Trailer Tire part # AM3H325 which is about 18.3" Tall and 8.9" Wide. This one is significantly wider than you current tire but just slightly taller. For a good increase in height...

We don't offer a higher rated 4.80/4.00-8 tire, but we do offer one mounted on an 8 inch wheel with a 4 on 4 bolt pattern in a load range C, as part # AM30060. The tire has a 745 lb capacity. If you wish to retain your existing wheels, we offer a 5-70-8 tire in a Load Range B as part # AM10013 which has a 1075 lb capacity per tire. This tire will measure about 2 inches larger in diameter and 1 inch wider than your existing tires, which will move the tire 1 inch closer to the fender and...

  • Does Kenda 4.80/4.00-8 Bias Trailer Tire with 8-Inch White Wheel # AM30060 Accept Hub Caps
Usually a smaller-size 8-inch trailer wheel like the Kenda # AM30060 is not fitted with a hub cap. The small projections you noticed (and there are actually 3 of them on this item) are not intended to hold a hub cap although on larger wheels this can be the case. These small round nubs are simply a result of the tooling used for production of the wheels.

The measurements you need will be where the seal and bearings ride. Check out the picture I attached to see which measurements are needed. The Kenda 4.80/4.00-8 Bias Trailer Tire with 8" White Wheel # AM30060 will fit in place for a 4.80-8 tire size. The wheel has a 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern so as long as that matches your existing bolt pattern it will work. If you just want the tire and want to keep your old wheels you can use # AM10004.

  • Recommended Higher Speed Rating for 4.80/4.00-8 Trailer Tires on Small Trailer
I do have an option for you but it doesn't look like you have room for larger tires without modifications and that's how you'll obtain a higher speed rating. That said, we do offer wheel/tire combos in the size you need with a slightly higher speed rating of 65 mph, the Kenda 4.80/4.00-8 Bias Trailer Tire with 8" White Wheel part # AM30060 is what I recommend. Unfortunately, these smaller trailers are really not designed to be pulled at high speed.

For a 4.8-8 trailer tire with the most weight carrying capacity, we have # AM10004. This is a tire by itself and it is rated for 760 pounds at 90 psi. It fits 8 x 3-3/4 inch wheels. • How Trailer Tires are Balanced and Recommended Trailer Tires for Small Boat Trailer
Trailer tire balancing is different than vehicle tire balancing that use weights to ensure an extremely smooth rotation. Trailer tires are made different with stronger sidewalls and they don't use weights or ball bearings to balance them. Instead the tire has a high spot and a low spot (heaviest and lightest point) that are indicated normally by a mark on the tire. Then you simply match the valve stem of your trailer wheel with the high/heavy spot on the trailer tire. Trailer tires...

I can't confirm that the Kenda K371 Bias Trailer Tire - 4.80/4.00-8 - Load Range C # AM10004 or any other trailer tire will work on your drag mini bike as they haven't been tested for that use or the speeds...
