Bias Tires vs. Radial Tires

Bias vs. radial tire graphic

Bias ply tires are designed for off-road or agricultural applications. They are built with thick, durable nylon cords that are positioned at a 30- to 45-degree angle to the direction of travel. The layers alternate in a crisscross pattern, making the sidewalls stiffer so that the entire tire is able to flex easily. As a result, the tire provides a smooth ride and improved handling when trailering on uneven surfaces.

etrailer shipping and price were GREAT!

The
issue I have is with the tire itself. The date code is nearly 2 years old and they arrive looking like it. Smashed into a pancake that took a lot of time with my straps, tire changer and warming up in the sun to mount and seat. Fortunately I have a motorcycle tire changer and am experienced with tires to get them mounted and seated.

No wonder all the local places only sell the tire mounted on the wheel!

by:

The tires look great and I’m just waiting for warmer weather to put them on my wood splitter.

by:

Perfect match for an old 1960's era Montgomery-Ward utility trailer I found buried in a junk pile and restored for use on the farm behind ATV and golf cart.

by:

price was less than I could purchase the tires for locally and service was fast. I was surprised that the 3 tires I ordered were squished almost flat and came stacked in a box only 8.5 inches high. Hopefully they will work fine once mounted and inflated. They were also manufactured in 2022 which means they're already 2 years old when I received them which is significant if one goes by the industry standard that trailer tires should be replaced every 5-6 years. Hopefully they were stored in a cool dark warehouse.

by:

Awful - The problem isn't the quality of the tires, it's the condition I received them in. The tires came squashed so flat they couldn't be seated tubelessly. I had to put tubes in. I didn't want tubes. Sure, now that they're stretched I could maybe take them off and mount them without tubes but who's going to do that? I could tell by eye these weren't squashed flat in shipping, they are stored that way in the warehouse and probably came that way packed from the manufacturer. Very disappointing experience. Wouldn't order again.

This is some thing that we do hear about these tires. When the manufacturer ships the tires. they are tied together and shipped on large pallets. Since they are compressed together to save spacTye, they look a bit out of shape or smooshed when they are delivered. Typically it will mount on the rim just fine however if they are troublesome then I recommend setting out the tire in the sun to make the tire more pliable. Or by a fire place when the temperatures are cold outside.

by:

Great tire! A little tough for me to wrestle onto the rim, but my buddy Charlie did it easily with tire spoons. It is tubeless, it sealed really well, it's DOT approved for highway use, and it is a perfect fit for my heavy duty 7/8 axle utility trailer. For my off road use it will live forever! Thank you.

by:

good tire, should work fine on my tow behind motorcycle trailer.

by:

My wheelbarrow got a flat...again. So I tried a different route. It's a trailer tire but I noticed it is 8in, the same as my wheelbarrow. This is a much more robust tire than the ribbed [tire] that typically lives there. I think the load rating is like 750lbs, way more than I will ever put in there. Anyway if you want to put a truly heavy duty tire on you wheelbarrow, this is it. etrailer had the best price and it got here fast.

by:

I have an old wheelbarrow that takes this size tire. This trailer tire is much higher quality and carries much more weight than an ordinary wheelbarrow tire. Installation was simple using the old tube. I am very happy with this product and the service.

by:

Worked well for my log splitter.

by:

Tires were very good. Fit to my trailer perfectly
Thanks

by:

Quick delivery, easy to find on the site and reasonable price. Site seems very user friendly.

This has worked out great, the log splitter that the tires were placed on have held air. I am very happy with my purchase and definitely will be back for other products.

by:

Rec'd tires 3-13-24. Now I can finish my yard cart repairs.

by:

These tires are perfect in every way. What I received was exactly what I was expecting. I would absolutely recommend etrailer for tire needs.

by:

Identical tire to my 18 year old log splitter tire that finally wore out. Wasn't easy to find but of course Etrailer had it and got it to me in Montana in a couple of days. Great tire from a great company!!

by:

Still holding air still looks new

by:

Tires were what I was looking for

by:

Hello etrailer Eric, great communication with the salesman. Speedy delivery, can't wait to mount it. Always dependable products and service from etrailer. Highly recommended.

by:

Just as I expected. This was a direct replacement for tire that had a punctured sidewall.

by:

Very good tire. Worked perfectly.

by:

Easy to order and it was delivered very quickly

by:

Great tire, put on a bayliner

by:

Perfect fit for my boat trailer- FAST s hipping!

by:

  • Higher Speed Rating Trailer Tire in Size 4.80-12
75 miles per hour is a pretty high trailer tire speed rating, especially in the size you have of 4.80-12, but we do have the Taskmaster wheel and tire part # TT48012C which is rated for 81 mph, a radial, and has a higher weight capacity of 990 lbs at 90 psi, and Load Range C. This would be my recommendation for either just a spare or for a replacement for all the wheels on the trailer. I attached a review video for you to check out as well for this tire.

  • Width and Load Rating of 4.70-8 Tires Versus 4.80/4.00-8 Tires
A typical 4.80/4.00-8 tire like # AM10002 will have a tread width of about 5.7 inches. Two load range B tires in that size would have a combined load rating of 1180 lbs. A load range C tire in 5.70-8 like # AM10012 would have a section width of 5.9 inches and a combined load rating of 1820 per 2 tires. Both tires are compatible with an 8 x 3-3/4 inch rim. The 5.70-8 tire is about 2 inches larger in diameter, which would make the trailer sit right at 1 inch taller that it currently does. If...

  • Minimum Trailer Tire to Fender Clearance Recommendation

  • What 4.80-4-8 Tire Would Work For My Log Splitter
When it comes to the 4.80/4.00-8 trailer tire we do not carry a 2 ply load range A tire only. The closest that we have is The Kenda K371 Bias Trailer Tire - 4.80/4.00-8 - Load Range B # AM10002, and the Load Range C # AM10004. The load range B has a ply rating of 4 and the Load Range C and has a ply rating of 6. Going up from a load range A to a load range B or C will give extra life in the tires since they have more tread to them. I have attached a review video below.

  • Can 5.30-12 Trailer Tires be Used to Replace ST205/65-10 Tires on a Snowmobile Trailer
The more narrow the tire the less contact with the road it will have which means the ride will be smoother. But I would go with the tires the trailer manufacturer recommends for the trailer. It should indicate the proper size on the tongue or frame somewhere. The ST205/65-10 tires, if they are a load range D or E will have a higher capacity than all sizes for a 5.30-12 tire so you would be limited to the lower capacity if you did make the switch. The 5.30-12 will only be about 1.4 inches...

Yes, we do have a replacement wheel and tire for a wheelbarrow! You are going to want the Replacement Wheel for MaxxTow Trailer Dolly with 1-7/8" Hitch Ball item # FHG23VR. The overall diameter of the tire is 12-inches; width is 4-inches. The wheel itself has a 6-3/4-inch diameter. • Recommended Tires for Motorcycle Trailer Carrying 900 lbs Harley Davidson
Kenda trailer tire # AM10002, which you referenced, has a weight capacity of 590 lbs per tire at 60 psi. With a two wheel trailer your capacity will be 1180 lbs, which is not quite sufficient for the 13000 lbs load you intend to carry. I would recommend going up to a Load Range C tire, like # AM10004, which has a weight capacity of 745 lbs per tire at 90 psi. I have attached a demonstration video of this part for you to check out.

  • What Is Maximum Highway Speed For Kenda K371 Bias Trailer Tire
The maximum speed rating for trailer tires is 65 MPH. The B rating is the load rating for the tire, which is 590 pounds at 65 PSI. You always want to have the tires of your trailer inflated to the maximum PSI rating at all times. If they are not inflated to maximum PSI, the thick sidewalls can heat up and wear faster than normal. I have linked an FAQ on trailer tires that you may find as a good reference.

  • Balancing a Trailer Tire with Weights or Beads
You can use beads or weights to balance your tires if desired, but you will need to use a pin plate adapter to do so with trailer tires. Because of the design of trailer tires, the need for specific balancing is not the same as vehicle tires. Most trailer tires are simply balances by matching the high heavy spot to the tire with the low light spot on the wheel. All of the combinations we carry are balanced in that manner so you can simply install them and get on the road. I've attached...
