Bias Tires vs. Radial Tires

Bias vs. radial tire graphic

Bias ply tires are designed for off-road or agricultural applications. They are built with thick, durable nylon cords that are positioned at a 30- to 45-degree angle to the direction of travel. The layers alternate in a crisscross pattern, making the sidewalls stiffer so that the entire tire is able to flex easily. As a result, the tire provides a smooth ride and improved handling when trailering on uneven surfaces.

Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

A good alternative to 20.5 x 8-10 tires

I had a sort of hard to find size for my old 76 Apache. Measurements on the website were very helpful and accurate. Delivery was very prompt. Tires and wheels are in great shape. Five stars for etrailer. They just went on, the rest is on Kenda

by:

I needed a replacement tire. Etrailer had the replacement and superfast shipping at a great price.

by:

Purchased two replacement tires for our Yamaha golf cart. Tires arrived quickly (2 days) and were packaged well. Perfect fit. Would purchase from etrailer.com again without reservation.

This is a review for the whole process of using Etrailer.com. I recently bought a very old and used camper that I am going to rebuild from the ground up. As you can see from the before pictures the tires were in very bad shape. I live in the Houston area and no one had this size of tire, which is the ten inch tire. I found them on your site and a fair price.
Within an hour after ordering the tire I received an email from a real human saying thanks for the order and that it would be there in 5 to 7 business days. About 30 minutes later I received another email saying it would actually be there faster because they had a truck going out that day. The tire came in 4 days and I got another email from a real human saying my package was at my house ( I was at work).
This morning I put both tires on, they fit perfectly. I could not be more pleased. I will be using this company again for sure, which I am sure I will need with this 40 year old camper

etrailer has a very informative website that taught me how to measure what lug pattern I have and also the difference between a radial and bias tire. The shipping was fast & I was able to swap out the old tires/wheels on my 1983 Coleman pop up trailer before going on a camping trip to Jedediah State park. Very happy customer!

by:

Its a simple item for sure, not much to say. These were installed on a popup camper and they have been on two tripa so far. The wheels are holding up well, no rust on the wheels and that is big living on the coast. I am glad I bought these wheels and tires.

by:

I’m so happy I found etrailer.com! I’m rehabilitating an ole faithful trailer with new hubs and tires...
Their product descriptions are spot on. The video’s included in the photo gallery tells you everything you need to know as well. Very informative. Can’t go wrong.
I’m hearing disabled, so I like to shop without calling and struggling through a conversation, and their website is so informative you can find what you need!

by:

  • Replacing Existing 20.5/8.0x10 Wheel/Tire on Pop-Up Camper With Nicer Options
The only 22/9.5-12 tires I'm aware of are for lawn and garden use, nothing rated for extensive road use at highway speeds. We don't offer them, so I couldn't say with certainty if they could be mounted on the wheel size you specified. The closest modern equivalent size to the 20.5/8.0-10 tires you have would be a 205/65-10, which measures 20.5 inches in diameter by about 8 inches wide. We offer a load range B tire mounted on a white powder coat finished rim with a 4 on 4 inch bolt pattern...

  • How Much Does a 205/65-10 Load Range B Tire Weigh
For starters, the weight that 35 psi of air will add to a tire will be so insignificant that it would require a scale that measures to the thousandth of a lb to even record any change. Also, there is no standard weight for a 205/65-10 load range b tire as it will vary from manufacturer to manufacturer. The weight of the wheel is going to be the main factor as you cannot exactly air the tire up unless mounted to a wheel. With that being said, the Loadstar K399 Bias Trailer Tire part # AM1HP50...

  • Trailer Rim/Tire Recommendation for Replace for 20.5x810
You will need to verify your bolt pattern even though it is very likely you have a 4 on 4 inch bolt pattern like what the # AM3h330 that you referenced has. You will want to measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the one across from it. I attached a help article on how this is determined. The size you mentioned having is the same as the 205/65-10 that the # AM3H330 has as well so this wheel/tire should work for you as long as the bolt pattern matches.

  • Using Trailer Tires on 2003 EZGO TXT Electric Golf Cart
According to my contact at our local golf cart dealer, you can indeed use a 205/65-10 trailer tire on your golf cart. Your cart should use a 4 on 4 bolt pattern, but I would recommend measuring to be sure it matches your existing wheels. The article I have linked you to shows how to take that measurement. The 205/65-10 tires used on the # AM3H330 wheel/tire combo will measure right at 20.8 inches tall (or in diameter). The section width (width of tread) is 8.3 inches. It sounds like these...

  • Recommendations for ATV Search & Rescue Carrier
We unfortunately don't carry hubs compatible with the 4/110 bolt pattern as that is not standard for any trailers. My recommendation is to use the Timbren Heavy-Duty Axle-Less Trailer Suspension - Straight Spindle - Wide Tires - 1,200 lbs # ASR1200S03. This will give you the independent suspension and allow you to dictate the width of the unit for your precise desires versus having a standard axle length. This does require a 2 inch square bar unless there is a cross brace in the location...

  • Replacement Tire and Wheel Needed for a Camper with 20.5-8-10 Wheels and Tires.
The Kenda 205/65-10 Bias Trailer Tire with 10 inch white Wheel - 4 on 4 bolt pattern, Load Range B, item # AM3H330, is a a good alternative to replace the 20.5 x 8-10 tire. You will need to select a wheel and tire with the closest load range to, but not lower than, your existing tires. I added a link to all of the wheels and tires in this size, with 4 load ranges to select from You also need to be sure that your trailer wheel bolt pattern is 4 on 4 inches. • Do Trailer Tire and Wheel Combos Come Already Balanced
Trailer tire and wheel combos are balanced like this: every tire and every wheel has a high (heavy) and low (light) spot. The manufacturers offset the high spot on the tire with the low spot on the wheel to balance them. Trailer tires do not need to be balanced beyond that. The problem is that to balance the tires on a machine it takes a special machine and rig to do so because trailer tires and wheels are not the same as vehicle tires and wheels. Most tire places do not have this special...

  • Can Kenda 205/50-10 Bias Golf Cart Tire Be Used on Small Trailer?
This golf cart tire and wheel combination would not be a good choice for a camper trailer. They were not designed for highway use, and it is hard to imagine not exceeding the load limits in typical use. Additionally, these are very short tires and will undoubtedly cause some clearance problems. Since you are considering a 10” wheel with a 4” X 4” bolt pattern, I would recommend the Kenda # AM3H330 tire with wheel that is rated for 910 pounds of load per tire and is speed rated “M” for...

  • How to Determine If Kenda 205/65-10 Tire w/ Wheel & 4 on 4 Bolt Pattern Can Replace 5.70-8 Tire
While we have no way of knowing off-hand, I can definitely tell you what to measure to determine if your 5.70-8 tire and wheel can be replaced by the Kenda 205/65-10 Bias Trailer Tire with 10" White Wheel - 4 on 4 - Load Range B # AM3H330. Since you have the same bolt pattern, you just need to check clearances, and keep in mind that you want about 3" of clearance from the top of the tire to your fender and at least 1" of clearance between the inside of the tire and your trailer's frame...

  • Trailer Tire with Same Height as 4.80-12 but is Wider
Your current tire size of 4.80-12 is 20.5 inches tall and the size you mentioned is much shorter so your best option would be the tire size 205/65-10 which is exact same height but much wider like with the part # AM3H454 for a 5 lug wheel or part # AM3H330 for a 4 lug wheel.

  • Is Bolt Pattern for 8 Inch Wheels the Same as 10 Inch Wheels
You may not have to change out your hubs it just depends what your current bolt pattern is. Both 8 inch and 10 inch trailer wheels come in 4 on 4 and 5 on 4-1/2 bolt patterns so all you need to do is choose a 10 inch wheel that matches what you have. For examples, we have part # AM3H330 which is a 205/65-10 size tire on a wheel with a 4 on 4 pattern and part # AM3H350 is the exact same tire on a wheel with a 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern. • Tire and Wheel Replacement Recommendation for a 4.80-8 with 4-Lug Bolt Pattern
For your application I recommend using the Kenda 165/65-8 Bias Trailer Tire with 8" White Wheel # AM3H200 as it will be a little larger but not large enough to cause clearance issues like a tire that fits a 10" wheel would (the 10" wheels have tires almost double the width of what you currently have). The combo mentioned above has the 4-lug bolt pattern and is a load range C (800 lbs at 70 psi) so it will be a great fit to replace your current tires/wheels. If you are determined to use...

  • Can Trailer Tire Size 205/65-10 Replace 8 inch Wheel and Tire
Yes, you could go with a 205/65-10 like the part # AM3H330 which has correct bolt pattern and has an 81 mph speed rating in place of your current 8 inch wheel and tire. The width of this tire is 8.3 inches so you would need to make sure you have the width needed. Keep in mind you want at least one inch of clearance between the trailer frame and the tire sidewall.

  • Is The Hub Pilot Size Important When Using Wheels With Lug Bolts
Thank you for the compliment. Yes, the pilot hole size is very important when the trailer uses lug bolts. That means the wheel is a hub centric wheel instead of a lug centric wheel. The difference is the wheel that is hub centric will center off the pilot hole size and a lug centric wheel will center off of the studs that are on the hub. You are correct the 12 inch wheels do not have the 2.5 inch pilot diameter. The 10 inch wheels with the 4 on 4 bolt pattern are the correct wheel you...
