Bias Tires vs. Radial Tires

Bias vs. radial tire graphic

Bias ply tires are designed for off-road or agricultural applications. They are built with thick, durable nylon cords that are positioned at a 30- to 45-degree angle to the direction of travel. The layers alternate in a crisscross pattern, making the sidewalls stiffer so that the entire tire is able to flex easily. As a result, the tire provides a smooth ride and improved handling when trailering on uneven surfaces.

Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

These are very well behaved tires. They track straight and do not cause trouble with the other tires. When on the boat ramp they never complain about getting wet, or tired.

Yes round, yes spinny.Perfect fit, No problems.

order, processing, and shipping could not be faster. packaging was first class. genuine kenda tires of oem trailer quality with very nice, heavily coated galvanized wheels. all for less than the competitors inferior no name tires on cheap rims. these are a really good value.

by:

Tires and wheels look great, no issues with mounting and the trailer pulls well going down the road. Hoping the galvanized wheels hold up far better in a salt water environment.

by:

Wheels came quick and packaged nicely so they wouldn't get damaged. Seem to be of great quality and the value was fantastic.

by:

Good pricing, quality product, easy to navigate website and quick delivery. All around good experience. Thanks.

by:

Exactly as advertised, packaged well, prompt shipment and delivery.

by:

great product

by:

just what I needed to replace the tires and wheels on a 4'x4' ATV utility trailer we use around the farm. Products arrived quickly and packaged well.

by:

Exact match for original. Took a little longer to arrive than expected.

Everything has been fine for these wheels and tires. The trailer sees minimal use and the tires will no doubt rot long before I wear them out.

by:

I have an old boat trailer that needed new wheels. The old ones were painted steel, and were rusted badly. The tires had become dried and cracked. Sources
where I live are few and far between. My new galvanized wheels arrived yesterday! Can’t wait to install them, and head back out on the water! Great price, and quality! I am very happy with these!

These wheels have worked out very well. This turned out to be the most simple of solutions, and I am happy with the way it turned out…

Tires fit perfectly

Working just fine, not one issue.

by:

Tires and wheels are great. I have an aluminum Starcraft and they match the boat perfectly. Tires came fully inflated to the proper air pressure. That was a nice touch. Just open the box, put em on the trailer and go fishing. Just they way I like it!

A year later and lots of fishing trips and the tires and rims are still great. Recently replaced the bearing and seals and the tires look brand new still.

I just love buying from this Company.
The
shipping is super fast and the products are top notch. THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH. THANK YOU

by:

So far so good! Replacing tires/wheels on a trailer that has been sitting. They went on without a any issues.

They have mostly been sitting in the garage, but they havent lost air.

by:

I received exactly what I ordered in a very short period of time at a reasonable price.

by:

I have mixed feelings about buying tires and wheels from these folks. On my last order there were little rubber nibs sticking out on the bead where it seats the tire. The tire did not hold air because of this and I found it flat with the side wall ruined. This was for a 20" tire. And a waste of $100. These tires shown above are for lighter loads and I do not anticipate a problem. I like the galvanized wheels as they look great years later while the painted wheels look like rust crap in just a few years. Generally, I save my painted wheels and cut the old tires off, clean and paint them, or get them galvanized for spare tires. I have a lot of trailer so I do a pile of these at one time.

by:

The wheels were shipped in a sturdy carton, so they arrived in perfect condition. These wheels will see a lot of salt water so I wanted wheels that could stand up to that kind of use. These were exactly what I expected. The service provided by etrailer.com also met my expectations with respect to delivery, price, and quality.

by:

looking for new wheels/tires for my jon boat trailer and etrailer had exactly what I was looking for at a very good price. They responded quickly and I had the tires delivered within two weeks.

by:

Though I don’t know that much about boat trailers, I was able to order the correct tire after only a little bit of research and cross checking. The wheel and tire arrived in great condition and ready to install!

by:

Quick shipping, great prices & good selection. Hard to beat etrailer.

Very pleased with the wheels & tires & plan to purchase from you again

by:

Just what we needed for our small boat trailer. One of the old tires split, and we realized that the tires was 12 years old. It's nice that we could get pretty much exact replacements. The tires mounted on galvanized wheels were a better buy than trying to replace just the tires locally.

by:

I was extremely happy with eTrailer. They provided fast shipping and a great product at an excellent price. The galvanized rim pictured for this wheel set appears dull gray but it actually came with a bright galvanized finish. Of course over time the finish will age, but the wheels look great!!

by:

Products (wheels and hubs) were delivered on time and were in excellent condition. Study packaging keep everything intact. With online videos Installation was very easy. I will certainly order from etrailer in the future.

by:

These tires look to be an upgrade to the tires that came with my Trailex trailer (one of which was in surprisingly bad shape after minimal use). Shipping was fast and free!

by:

Perfect for my all aluminum trailer with galvanized rims

  • Replacement Tire and Wheel for a TeeNee Trailer with 4.80/4.00-8 Tires
Are the wheels on your TeeNee Trailer hub piloted or lug piloted? If they are lug piloted then you would only need to make sure the size of the pilot hole on the wheel exceeds that of your trailer hub. It does not need to match this or the wheel you have now. Therefore, the Kenda 4.80/4.00-8 Bias Trailer Tire with 8" White Wheel part # AM30000 with a 2.5" pilot hole should work for you but if not we have the Kenda 4.80/4.00-8 Bias Trailer Tire with 8" Galvanized Wheel part # AM30010 which...

  • Recommended Axles Hubs Tires And Wheels For A Mormon Hand Cart
I can certainly help point you in the right direction. That definitely is a unique application. For an axle I would lean towards something smaller like the # e25GR. This is a 60" long axle with a 1-3/4" tube diameter. It comes with 4 lug hubs. The axle and hubs weigh only about 30 lbs combined, so I imagine this would be light enough to manage moving by hand. For wheels/tires we have the # AM30010. This is a 4.80/4-8 trailer tire that measures 4.6" wide and has a diameter of 16.1" when...

  • Availability of Tires That Fit 8" x 3-3/4" Wheels
We do have tires that will fit the Steel Trailer Wheel - 8" x 3-3/4" Rim - 4 on 4 - White # AM20001. You can use either a 4.80/4.00-8 tire or 5.70-8 tire. If you're replacing tires on your trailer I recommend choosing one that matches the size of your current tire. The Kenda K353 Bias Trailer Tire - 5.70-8 # AM10013 and the Kenda K371 Bias Trailer Tire - 4.80/4.00-8 - Load Range C # AM10004 will both work with this wheel. • Trailer Tire and Wheel Combination Sized 4.80/4.00-8 with Galvanized Wheel and 4 on 4 Bolt Pattern
A wheel, like on the Kenda Galvanized Wheel and Tire Combo # AM30010, shouldn't have a pilot hole the exact same size as your hub. It will be a little larger. These trailer wheels are lug-centric and not hub-centric, meaning they are supported by the lug nuts and not on the hub center itself. It can be used as a hub-centric wheel but in that case the pilot diameter will have to be the same as the hub center's diameter.

  • Speed Rating for Kenda 4.80/4.00-8 Bias Trailer Tire with 8 Galvanized Wheel
The Kenda 4.80/4.00-8 Bias Trailer Tire with 8" Galvanized Wheel - 4 on 4 - Load Range B # AM30010 has a max speed rating of 65 mph which is becoming more of a standard for trailer tires. You always want to run trailer tires at max psi capacity which will be stated on the sidewall - for both tires mentioned above that would be 60 psi. The only exception is when the trailer tire manufacturer comes out with a table showing what different weights different psi ratings can handle, but these...

  • Upgrading From 4.80/4.00-8 Trailer Tires to 145/12 Trailer Tires On Boat Trailer for Long Trip
The Kenda 4.80/4.00-8 Bias Trailer Tire with 8" Galvanized Wheel part # AM30010 that you have now is a bias ply tire which is not my first choice for long highway trips as they will run hotter than the radial counterpart which then increase the chance for a blowout. If you have the space for a new larger, radial ply tire then this would be a wise upgrade for your 1,200 mile road trip. The best option we have for this is the Kenda Karrier S-Trail ST145/R12 Radial Tire w/ 12" White Spoke...

  • When Is it Time to Replace Trailer Tires
Trailer tires typically don't wear out before they need to be replaced due to age. In nearly every situation a tire will need replacing when it hits 6 years of age unless you have a suspension issue that causes a wear issue.
