Can Tire with Weight Rating of 1,925 lbs Safely be Used to Transport 1,190 lb Boat

Question:

My question is if my boat has a hull weight of 1190lbs would a load range C tire with a load weight of 1925lbs per tire be ok ? It is a single axle trailer and I would get 3 tires. Two of them to be used plus a spare. Thank you.

Helpful Expert Reply:

Yes, a tire with a Load Range of C (1,925 lbs at 60 psi) like the Kenda ST205/75R14 Radial Trailer Tire # AM10234 has more than enough weight capacity for your 1,190 lb boat. When you calculate tire weight capacity you will add the capacity of each tire together so in this case the combined weight rating is 3,850 lbs. Please note that even though you have a fairly high weight capacity you are still limited by your least rated component so if your axle weight rating is only 2,000 lbs you will need to remain under that limiting factor.
