Thoroughly Tested for Safety

This hub-and-drum assembly meets the requirements for certification by the Canadian Standards Association (CSA). The CSA creates standards, which when complied with ensure a safe and quality product. This assembly underwent extensive testing to measure stopping distances when braking. This assembly has also been tested by QAI for braking performance in a complete automotive setup and under real-world conditions to provide the most realistic scenario for the everyday driver.

Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: 8 on 6-1/2 means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: 5 on 4-1/2 means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance (D) from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

I installed these on a boat trailer. No sign of rust so far.

by:

I painted mine to match my wheels

by:

Shipping is horrible. They placed (2) drum kits, (2) brake kits and (1) wheel in the same package without any rigid support between the components. Upon delivery, a brake drum with a chip where the seal is installed and one brake kit was almost disassembled. Studs in the backing plates were dislodged due to hitting other parts. Your best bet is to order everything individually or at most in pairs if you don’t want damage. Package was so heavy, UPS driver basically rolled it out the truck. Have not installed so can’t comment on quality. With so many bad reviews on packaging, one would think it would be addressed.

by:

Step by step shipping updates were fant astic

by:

Seem to be good quality. They fit beautifully over the no adjust brake assemblies.

by:

Outstanding costumer service each rep I talk with help me find the right trailer hub that I was looking far. Iwill most difinitely use you again.

by:

Installed on a cargomate 6x12 enclosed. It all (brake kit and drums) just fit, and now they just work. As advertised. No issues.

by:

Product looks great, heavy-duty and ready for install! Would have given 5-Star if the shipping boxes weren't damaged.

by:

Went on great and easy to install! No cotter pin with this kit so save yours!

working great. no messing around every year with my boat trailer brakes now.

by:

Great communication and fast shipping

by:

Thanks to help from Ashley, all the components I ordered were a perfect fit for adding brakes to my boat trailer. Since I am pulling my 18' runabout with a minivan, like feeling the trailer brakes kick in during stops. Hopefully they do not turn into a maintenance issue but since the majority of the time I am launching in fresh water, optimistic they will provide years of service.

by:

VERY FAST DELIVERY

by:

ETrailer always has what I need at a fair price and super fast shipping.

by:

  • Correct Replacement Hub/Drum for Starcraft Boat Trailer 3,500 Lb Axle 1.379" Inner and 1.06" Outer
It sounds like you have a pretty standard 3,500 lb axle therefore you can use the Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly part # AKHD-545-35-K or part # AKHD-545-35-G-K for galvanized (better for salt water).

  • Replacement Hub and Drum Assembly for 3,500 lb Boat Trailer Axle with #84 Spindles
Thank you for all of the specs! To replace your hub/drum assembly I recommend the Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly # AKHD-545-35-G-K which meets all of the specs you gave and has a galvanized finish to it will hold up much better to water exposure than the standard powder coat finish we see on regular hub/drum setups. This comes with a grease cap for a standard spindle but you can swap that out with your Bearing Buddy caps no problem. Attached is an installation video for you to check out.

  • Recommended Hub/Drums Compatible With AKFBBRK-35-D 10-Inch Hydraulic Brake Assembly
We don't offer the # AKFBBRK-35-D brake assemblies kitted together with the brake drums, but I'd be happy to make some recommendations for you. A 3500 lb axle typically uses a L68149 Inner and L44649 Outer bearing along with a 58846 grease seal with a 1.719 inner and a 2.565 outer diameter. If that's the case with your existing hubs, I'd recommend the # AKHD-545-35-G-EZ-K for E-Z lube spindles or # AKHD-545-35-G-K for standard spindles. E-Z lube spindles have the zerk fitting on the...

  • Do All 3500 lb Axles Use a 10 Inch Brake Assembly
Modern (within the last 10-15 years) 3500 lb axles with electric or hydraulic drum brakes do indeed use a 10 x 2-1/4 inch brake drum which is compatible with the # AKEBRK-35 brake assemblies you'd looked at. You can confirm this by measuring the inner diameter of the brake drum which will be 10 inches and the inside depth which will be 2-1/4 inches. If you're needing replacement brake assemblies, I'd highly recommend going with self-adjusting brakes, like part # AKEBRK-35-SA. The price...

  • Trailer Hub/Drum that has 7 inch Drum and 5 Lug Bolt Pattern
We have hubs that fit your spindle but they are 10 inch drums like you said wouldn't work. We don't have any that would fit that have a drum that's smaller. If by chance both of your bearings are L44649 you could use the part # AKHD-545-2-EZ-2K which has the bolt pattern you need and the drum is 7 inch.

  • Recommended Free Backing Hydraulic Brake Assembly for 3,500 lb Boat Trailer Axle
For your Macgregor boat trailer with 3,500 lb axle, you will want the Demco Hydraulic Brake Kit - Free Backing - Galvanized - 10" - Left/Right Hand Assemblies - 3.5K # 40716-15. This galvanized assembly will work great for your boat trailer to resist corrosion and the free backing means you don't need a lockout to allow backing up without brakes applying. I've attached a video to assist.

  • Replacement Hub and Drums and Brakes for EZ Loader Boat Trailer
If you are going to replace the axles and hubs then our hubs will come with the proper bearings. But in order to determine the correct bearings you would either need to replace the axles first and then tell me which axles you have so I can find hubs to match or if the axles are exactly the same as the old axles you could tell me the inner and outer bearing numbers stamped into the sides of the bearings. I checked the EZ loader site and did not see replacement axles as an option so I am...

  • How To Determine If Boat Trailer has 10 Inch or 12 Inch Brake Assemblies
When determining if you need 10 inch or 12 inch brake assemblies there are a couple of easy things to check to confirm the fit for your trailer. The first thing is you can measure the diameter of your hub. The second thing is you can look at the brake flange, if it has 4 bolts then it is 10 inch if it has 5 then it is 12 inch. Because you know you have a #84 spindle we can be confident that you have a 3,500 lb axle and you will need the 10 inch assemblies. I recommend the Hydraulic...

Thanks for the information you sent. To make a more accurate recommendation, I need to know your bolt pattern, whether you have brakes, inner and outer bearings sizes, and the capacity of your axle. With the information you sent, it sounds like you have a 3,500 lb trailer axle which often have inner bearings like Item # L68149 and outer bearings like Item # L44649. • Parts Needed to Add Electric Brakes to 3,500 lb Trailer Axle that will See Salted Roads
For a 3,500 lb trailer axle that will see salted roads I would recommend the galvanized hub/drum part # AKHD-545-35-G-K which will do a much better job fighting corrosion than a painted hub. There aren't any galvanized brake assemblies available but the Dexter assemblies are known to hold up really well so for that I would recommend the Dexter Nev-R-Adjust part # 23-468-469 which also happen to be self adjusting so you'd never have to mess with brake adjustments.

  • Are there Specific Electric Drum Brakes for a Boat Trailer with 3,500 Pound Axle
Electric brakes nowadays can be used on boat trailers but they are not all that common because of the whole water and electricity incompatibility issue. There is less likely to be a problem if you were to first unplug the trailer from the tow vehicle and then submerge it. In the 10 x 2-1/4 inch brake size, which is likely what is required for your 3,500 pound axle, there aren't any marine specific brakes. So I recommend etrailer brakes # AKEBRK-35R and # AKEBRK-35L.
