Corrosion Resistance for Marine Use

This trailer hub-and-drum assembly has a zinc coating that resists corrosion, making it ideal for use on your boat or snowmobile trailer. All GAL-DEX hubs and drums undergo a test in which they are sprayed with a 5-percent salt solution to determine corrosion resistance over time. These products are able to withstand 500 hours of constant exposure to the saltwater mist. This 500-hour salt spray rating indicates that a product is not only durable enough to last in freshwater environments, but it can also be used on trailers that come into contact with saltwater.

Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern Side

Measuring the distance (D) from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

Shipping was pretty fast and packaging nice and secure. The drums and brake backing assembly were a breeze to install without instructions. I was a bit surprised though that the back kit did not come with 4 new bolts to secure onto the flange. I used the old ones. The drum kit comes with new lug nuts though. I have no real complaints, I would definitely use etrailer again. Excellent pricing and quality. I installed these brakes the next day after receiving them. I used marine grease from autozone to pack the new bearings. The brakes are bled and adjusted as per the sticker on the kit...adjust til you cannot turn by hand and 10 clicks out. All that's left is to test drive it.

Cheap junk. One of the hubs was not properly coated. Will not recommend this to anybody. Cheap junk from China. Photos will be attached.

We had a break down on Saturday when we picked our boat up from storage. Went online and ordered the necessary parts to repair the trailer and forgot about it for a couple hours. Etrailer called to notify us that the selected parts would not arrive as hoped based on the shipping I had chosen. They went out of their way to locate the suitable parts and verify that they would arrive by the time I needed them so we could get the trailer repaired and back on the road. Thank you Etrailer for the excellent customer service!!! I look forward to my next order with you!

Stripping down a 16 year old 21 ft. salt water use trailer - from end to end. The folks @ etrailer were very knowledgeable, and helpful in my decision making. From placing the order, to tracking the order, to the way the items were packed for transit. Other distributors could learn from these people; in regards to customer service, following up, both office and warehouse. Unloaded the products last night, nothing short, all quality in regards to their products, with great pricing. The installation videos are a big bonus, and something I'll be taking advantage of, during the restoration. Will follow up with picture, (before and after) when I'm done

Everything purchased worked exactly as expected and continues to do the job I needed of them. I have and will continue to purchase all my trailer products from E-Trailer...

I'm just getting around to installing
my drums, thanks for promptly getting them to me, they look great!

I'm wondering if this product has the free backing feature or if I need to manually lock out the brakes when backing up. Any information is appreciated.

by:

Bought the galvanized drum brakes for a 6000# boat trailer used strictly in salt water. With rinse off after use they seem to be holding up pretty good.

by:

I used these on my salt water boat trailer. The product works very well and have stood up to the salt water quite well.
I am happy with the results and ease of use.

by:

I would highly recommend etrailer if they have what you need. These people really care about filling your order properly and followup with anything you order from them. They assume nothing!

This is a class AAA business to do business with.

by:

Excellent resources to help determine the exact parts I needed for my trailer project. Great product descriptions and videos. Competive prices and quick shipping! Thank you very much!

by:

Perfect replacement for my old worn out Hub/Drum. I went with the galvanized becasue of use in saltwater.

Thanks E-Trailer.

  • How to Pick Out Replacement Hubs for a Boat Trailer
In order to pick out the correct hub assembly for a trailer you are going to need know a few key pieces of information. The first thing you will need to know is the bolt pattern of your hubs. Since the figure you came up with doesn't match any of the 5-bolt bolt patterns I am going to need to to recheck your bolt pattern. For further info on this check out the FAQ article I attached on this. Next thing you will need to know is what spindle you have on your trailer. In order to do that...

  • Inspecting Hubs, Bearings and Spindles on a Boat Trailer
Thank you for the measurements you provided, they are very helpful and tell us everything we need to know to recommend parts that will work for you. Based on your bearing numbers and spindle measurements you need a 3,500 lb hub with a 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern. The type of hub that you need will depend on whether you have brakes or want a galvanized versus a painted finish. For idler hubs (no brakes), you can use part # 84545BX or # 84545UC1-EZ for EZ Lube spindles. These hubs come with...

  • How to Measure Trailer Hub Drum for Dimensions
You can refer to the linked photo that shows how to measure both the diameter and depth of a boat trailer hub/drum. When selecting new hubs there are several characteristics you need to match up to ensure compatibility. Those are weight rating (to match the axle), wheel bolt pattern and the bearing set used in the hub. A new hub has to use the same inner and outer bearings in order for it to fit on your spindles and you want to ensure the bolt pattern for your wheels matches the new hub....

We do have galvanized trailer hub/drums available for travel trailers. For example we have the part # 8-247-50UC3 which fits the very popular 3,500 lb trailer axles and has a 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern. If you have a different need for a hub/drum let me know and I'll see what we have that would be best option.

Yes, the Brake Actuator part # T43397007K will be sufficient to power two sets of the Titan Hydraulic Brake Kit part # T4423500-400 and the Dexter Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly part # 8-247-50UC3 will work with these as well as the spindles on your trailer if what you provided is correct. The weight capacity for the actuator is for the coupler portion, not the master cylinder so you could use braking assemblies that exceed this without issue.

Sometimes with all the studs of a hub sheer off it's because one lug nut started to come loose which then caused others to work loose and with enough play the impact on the stud as the wheel turns eventually sheers off the stud.
