Are there Specific Electric Drum Brakes for a Boat Trailer with 3,500 Pound Axle

Question:

From the research Ive been doing, I have found out that there are a couple options to installing electric drum breaks to a boat trailer. I guess the break pads are made of something different that will tolerate repeated submersion. The trailer will never be submerged in salt water, only fresh water. The axle is 3500 lbs and a 4 lug mounting bracket. Ive tried to search your site for marine specific drum breaks, but cant find anything that tells me its made for marine applications. Any help you could provide will be greatly appreciated.

Electric brakes nowadays can be used on boat trailers but they are not all that common because of the whole water and electricity incompatibility issue. There is less likely to be a problem if you were to first unplug the trailer from the tow vehicle and then submerge it.

In the 10 x 2-1/4 inch brake size, which is likely what is required for your 3,500 pound axle, there aren't any marine specific brakes. So I recommend etrailer brakes # AKEBRK-35R and # AKEBRK-35L.

If your trailer currently has idler hubs instead of hub and drum assemblies then you will need new hub and drum assemblies as well. For that we do have some for marine applications such as # AKHD-545-35-G-K which is galvanized with a 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern and uses inner bearing L68149 and outer bearing L44649. If you have different bearing numbers or bolt pattern let me know what they are. I have linked video reviews of the brakes and drums for you.
