This was exactly what I needed to make my hitch work on a Grand Caravan. The adjustable hitch was too close to the bumper after installing the Curt receiver hitch.

You will want to keep in mind that using an extender will reduce the capacity of your hitch by half.

by:

The hitch extension is heavy duty and I’m extremely happy with the quality. Service was superb and received the product in 2 days. Happy, happy, happy. Before and after photos are included.

I just wanted to provide you with a heads-up that using an extender like the # C45791 will reduce the capacity of your receiver hitch by 50 percent, as mentioned on the product page.

by:

The extender worked as expected. No iss ues

by:

This thing is an absolute beast! well made and solid, with an exceptional finish. Worked as advertised and cleared the spare tire on my Wrangler such that our bike rack could be installed correctly. An exceptional product!

by:

The shaft length of a standard insert for a receiver hitch was too short to allow towing a 96 gallon trash can because the trash can lid was wedged against the tailgate of the ATV. The hitch extender has added sufficient length that the lid hinge can be dropped onto the trailer ball without being wedged against the tailgate.

Still working as intended with no downtime or difficulties.. also useful as an easy tiedown point when transporting the atv on a flatbed trailer.

by:

Great. Extended my hitch just enough to keep my truck bumper from hitting my v-nose trailer. It greatly reduces the weight ratio, but length works out great.

Actually I bought a superduty and took extender out. Went with new B&W hitch on new truck. But the extender worked great on the f150

by:

I purchased this extension to use with my front end Curt Class 3 receiver hitch. This setup was installed for use of my Warn Wench that is installed in a portable receiver cradle that I use on either the front or rear of my truck. I chose this extension because of the solid shank that made it stronger than most other I shopped. As all extensions reduce the hitch weight rating, this one provided the least amount of reduction. I am very happy with my purchase and it works as advertised.

by:

The shipping was very fast and it was packed with care. Much appreciated.

by:

Great product, excellent website, very user friendly (the "how to" videos were especially helpful in making sure the product I was ordering was the right one), highly responsive customer relations department. The hitch extender worked correctly the first time, and fits perfectly with my new Thule bike rack (see photos). I highly recommend eTrailer!

by:

Heavy metal, fit current hitch well. Good extention for Thule bike rack.

by:

super fast shipping and worked perfect as described this was for my personal lowered c-10 1970 step side I wanted my hitch hidden behind the lic plate and was having some clearance issues with the plate as it had to flip up not down to clear my hitch We use the m a,lot at work for hitches trailer parts ect with supply chain issues they take the time to call you and offer other solutions if not in stock for your on online orders excellent customer service

by:

I got this for my side by side as the receiver was mounted too far underneath the unit to be practical. This adapter moved it out to just the right spot. I use my SxS to move my trailers around my property mostly, & it works great.

by:

Received the 8” extension and it does exactly what I needed it to do. Matches up nicely with the Curt hitch on my SUV. Now I need not worry about how closely my trailers come to the rear end. Fast delivery and great support.

by:

Put a receiver underneath my travel trailer and I needed to Ring the receiver out 8 inches from underneath the trailer and it fit perfect and it’s heavy duty And with the anti-rattle device I got from etrailer it works perfect.

by:

This extender worked perfectly. It is the perfect length to clear the spare tire on my Jeep. I haven’t noticed any problems with the additional tongue weight that this supposedly adds. It’s a better solution than removing my spare tire. I’m pulling a 17.5 foot bass boat.

by:

Great product, very heavy duty. Allowed me to mount bike rack behind a large Jeep tire. Easy ordering and quick shipping.

by:

Waited to answer, pkg arrived empty, called etrailer to advise, you shipped replacement right away and it has arrived. Thank you so much

by:

Way too much play between it and the receptacle. I use it for a bicycle rack and the whole thing wobbles too much. I still use it, but it's unnerving.

by:

As usual you always have what I need. Thank you also for rapid, reasonable shipping.

by:

Didn't work for my jeep because of the 35 inch tire attached to the tailgate.

by:

Perfect. !! I have a 2017 Ford Expedition and I needed this for my front hitch.

by:

Both products excellent.

by:

Well made and finished. It was exactly what I needed. The product was delivered earlier than promised. I like doing business with eTrailer.

by:

I purchased this Extender for my RV. The factory hitch was installed right under the bumper which made it very difficult to get the trailer hitch on top of the ball. With the extender, it is a snap to hook up my trailer without damaging the fiberglass bumper.
The extender is extremely heavy duty and well made. I am thrilled with my purchase and it sure make my trailer hookup much easier.

Fantastic

by:

I'm sure the product was good as etrailer is always excellent. But when we got back two of the pieces were in the box but the curt hitch extender was not. The box had a hole in it and was tapped over. Who knows what happened.

  • Bike Rack for Travel Trailer to Clear Rear Spare
I have a great bike rack solution for your travel trailer that will clear your rear spare but we do not recommend using a hitch extender with bike racks at the rear of travel trailers due to the very harsh ride quality at the rear of them. Instead we have the Swagman Trailhead part # S63381 which has 9-1/2 inches of clearance between the pin hole and the back of the racks upright mast which will easily clear your spare since you need at least 8 inches.

  • Will the Kuat Transfer V2 Work on My 2021 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited?
If you have heavy mountain bikes, you are definitely going in the right direction of a hitch-mounted bike rack instead of a tire-mount rack. Since the current distance from the center of the hitch pinhole to the closest part of the Kuat Transfer V2 Bike Rack # KU84FR is 6-1/2 inches, a hitch extender will be your best route for trying to clear your spare tire. If your hitch sits close to the bumper like the Curt Hitch - 2" # e98835, you are looking at around 7-1/2 inches of clearance...

The Thule T2 Pro XTR 2 Bike Platform Rack # TH83JV requires a minimum of 1-1/2 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the end of the receiver opening of your hitch according the manufacturer, but we have customers that have confirmed it will work without it. If you want an adapter to follow the manufacturer's recommendation, I have a work around option for you. I recommend using a hitch extension like the Curt Hitch Extender for 2" Hitch Receivers - 8" Long # C45791. This...

  • Do I Need a Hitch Extender with the Kuat Transfer V2 on My 2021 Jeep Wrangler with Spare Tire?
There is definitely a way to find out! Since the Kuat Transfer V2 # KU84FR has a 6-1/2" length from the center of the shank's pinhole to the closest part of the rack, I recommend making a measurement on your 2021 Jeep Wrangler. You need to measure the center of the hitch's pinhole to the outside surface of your spare tire. If that length is less than 6-1/2", you do not need a hitch extender. I went ahead and attached a photo that shows how to do this measurement. If you find that you need...

  • Which Hitch Extender will Give a Jeep Wrangler Additional Clearance to Install Bike Rack
Most commonly with Jeep Wrangler the hitch extender part # 13432 does the trick as it adds 8 additional inches to the hitch tube. But that will depend on the bike rack you have and how much clearance your setup calls for. You should note that hitch extenders do cut the capacity of the hitch they are installed on in half. I attached a review video that shows the extender being used on a Wrangler just like yours.

That said, I attached a demonstration video which shows this cargo carrier installed on a Jeep SUV and you can see that there is plenty of the room for the rear hatch to be opened, so it would likely work fine for your vehicle as well. In order to verify if this bike rack will clear the spare tire on your 2014 Jeep Wrangler, you will want to first measure from the trailer hitch receiver's hitch pin hole to the rearmost part of the spare tire (see photo). If this distance is less than 11-3/4" then you can use the Kuat NV 2.0 Base Bike Rack for 2 Bikes - 2" Hitches # BA22B. How much extension were you needing? The Curt # C45791 extender you'd looked at has an 8 inch extension. For greater clearance, a 14 inch extension is available as part # HE12 or # ST18 for 18 inches. Using a hitch extender moves the tongue weight load further rearward from the trailer, which increases the leverage placed upon the hitch. Because of this, using an extender will lower the tongue weight capacity of the hitch by one third to one half. The product description for each item...

This will give you only a 3-7/8 inch extension while reducing the size of your receiver opening. If you need a longer extension, I recommend the Curt Hitch Extender for 2" Hitch Receivers - 8" Long # C45791 which will give you an 8 inch extension but will also reduce your trailer hitch tongue weight rating by up to 50 percent like all hitch extenders do including the Blue Ox.

It measures 1-1/4 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the center of the hitch ball, it has a 3/4 inch rise or a 2 inch drop and it was designed to be used with 2 inch trailer hitches.
