Recommended Trailer Hitch Receiver and Extension for 2012 Toyota RAV4 with Spare Tire and Thule Rack
Question:
I just purchased a 2012 RAV 4 and already own a 2inch Thule T2 bike rack. Is there any hitch receiver model that I can purchase that will allow the bike rack to fold up without hitting the spare tire?

On your Thule T2 Pro XTR # TH69TX, the closest bike carrier rail when folded is 5". This is an important measurement so we can get the proper fit for your 2012 Toyota RAV4.
I recommend the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver # e98864 which has a hitch pin hole that measures 4 inches from the outermost part of the bumper and 8 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the back of the spare tire.. This will only allow a fit without the spare tire unless using a hitch extender like Curt Hitch Extender for 2" Hitch Receivers - 8" Long Item # C45791 which is my recommendation for your bike rack. This will clear your spare tire even when the bike rack is in the folded position.
The only negative is the extender will reduce the tongue weight of the hitch by 50%. Based on the tongue weight capacity rating of the hitch, your bike rack max capacity of 160 lbs won't be an issue. To secure this extender and give you an anti-rattle, I recommend # 63232.
