When you apply the brakes in your tow vehicle, deceleration occurs and momentum pushes your trailer toward the rear of your vehicle. With surge brake systems, the actuator is triggered as your trailer moves forward while the tow vehicle slows. The actuator telescopes, applying force to its master cylinder, which in turn supplies the necessary hydraulic pressure to engage the trailer's brakes.

Electric reverse lockout with solenoid is automatically activated when you shift the tow vehicle into reverse. To use this feature, you must have a 5-pole flat, 6-way round or 7-pole wiring harness.

Have not installed at time of writing, but is a perfect match to my old unit! Looking forward to install! Thanks trailer.

The Dexter hitch is performing well, although I have found it needs to be lined up precisely to the ball to connect...low tolerances that way. Another concern I have, although it has no direct bearing on this hitch, is that I recently learned some jurisdictions are only allowing tandem trailers with electric/hydraulic brakes...I guess they feel solely hydraulic surge brakes are "less" safe? You guys might consider a small note about this in your descriptions.

@Bruce I am not 100 percent sure on their thinking however electric over hydraulic brakes gives the quicker, smoother control of electric brakes combined with the stopping power of hydraulic brakes. We always recommend checking with DMV to see what is required when it comes to trailers and brakes.

  • Can You Reverse With Brake Actuator T47457207K And The Brakes Not Lockup
The Dexter Actuator part # T47457207K has a lockout you can then reverse the trailer without the brakes engaging. In summary, no lockout means you cannot reverse the trailer without the brakes engaging and lockout means you can reverse the trailer without the brakes engaging. Please note, in order to use the reverse lockout feature you will need to have either a 5-way trailer connector, 4 to 5-way trailer connector adapter, or 7-way trailer connector. The Curt Trailer Connector Adapter...

  • Replacement Brakes for Sailboat Trailer With 3500 lb Single Axle
A 3500 lb axle would typically use a L68149 inner and L44649 outer wheel bearing and the hub would have a 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern so you'll want to confirm that by pulling a hub and getting the reference numbers off the cages of your existing bearings. If this is what you have, then you do indeed have a 3500 lb axle and the parts I recommend below will be based on that assumption. If the above is true, you'll have 10 inch brake assemblies, and I'd recommend # 40716-15 galvanized brake...

  • Does 5-Way need to be Installed on 16 Ram Pickup to Activate Electric Lockout on Actuator
You do need at least a 5-Way connector like what you find with adapter # 20036 (designed for this type of use) so that the reverse lockout function is activated on your Brake Actuator w/ Electric Lockout # T47457207K. If you only had a 4-Way on your Chevy Avalanche then I am a little confused as to why you were able to back up your trailer but regardless, you need to connect the actuator to the reverse light function on your 2016 Ram pickup so that you can back your trailer up.

  • Replacement Brake Actuating Coupler for Ranger Boat Trailer
Unfortunately, we don't carry a Dexter 48970, nor could I find anything about that part. Assuming your boat and trailer have a combined weight of less than 7000 lbs and has disc brakes and a 3 inch wide tongue, the Titan # T47457207K surge brake actuator you'd looked at would work well for you. The coupler is compatible with 1-7/8, 2 inch or 50mm trailer balls.

  • Replacement Surge Brake Actuator For Atwood 85736 That Is Discontinued
Your best route is to replace your entire surge brake assembly as Atwood no longer produces any parts for their brake actuators. The Titan Zinc-Plated Brake Actuator # T47457207K is going to be your best replacement available. It is specific to disc brakes and has a 7,000lb weight rating while your Atwood 85736 has a 6,000lb. This does have a bolt on design where your Atwood is likely welded on so you will need to cut off your actuator and drill holes to bolt on the new actuator. The...

  • How Does Reverse Lock Out Solenoid of Titan Surge Actuator Get Wired
The Titan Actuator part # T47457207K should have came with instructions but sometimes like anything they get misplaced before shipping. With the reverse lock out solenoid basically one of the wires runs to the reverse light circuit of the vehicle and the other gets grounded. The wires aren't polarity sensitive so either could be used as the power and ground wire. There isn't a coupler lock available for this coupler due to it being the multi-ball setup that fits more than one ball size....

  • Where is Voltage Coming From When Using Actuator With Electric Lockout for Hydraulic Disc Brakes
When using the Dexter Zinc-Plated Brake Actuator w/ Electric Lockout - Disc # T47457207K, the voltage for the solenoid is coming from the reverse light circuit. It will supply voltage only when the reverse light is on when using a 5-way connector. If you need a 5-way you can use the Tow Ready 4 Pole to 5 Pole Trailer Wiring Adapter # 20036, and I have added a link to a video install for you to check out as well. I have added a link to a help article on trailer wiring you may find useful,...

  • Disc Brake Actuator with Electric Lockout for Magic Tilt Trailer
For your Magic-Tilt tandem axle boat trailer with disc brakes and a straight tongue I recommend Titan Disc Brake Actuator Coupler # T47457207K. • Replacement Actuator Recommendation For An Older Atwood 85736 Actuator
Since the Atwood 85736 has been discontinued for quite some time, we as a result, do not carry it's replacement parts, however I do have another alternative. I know it's not ideal, but since it's going to become harder and harder to find replacement parts, I recommend just upgrading your entire unit instead. I will say that you should check the bolt pattern on the back of your current brakes to make sure you have a 5 bolt, however. I included a picture of how it should measure as well.
