Use this corrosion-resistant actuator to synchronize your trailer brakes with your tow-vehicle brakes. Over-center latch mechanism only engages when the actuator is fully seated on 2" hitch ball. Designed for hydraulic drum brake applications.

Features:

  • Hydraulic actuator activates trailer's brakes when tow vehicle slows or stops
  • Low-profile coupler latch ensures easy, secure connection
    • Over-center latch mechanism only engages when the actuator is fully seated on hitch ball
  • Aluminum master cylinder is better at reducing corrosion than cast steel master cylinders
  • Zinc plating offers excellent corrosion resistance
  • Bolt-on installation
  • Manual lockout kit sold separately
  • Made in the USA

Specs:

  • Application: hydraulic drum brakes
  • Ball size: 2"
  • Mounting: 3" x 5" straight tongue
  • Capacity: 7,500 lbs
  • 2-Year limited warranty

When you apply the brakes in your tow vehicle, deceleration occurs and momentum pushes your trailer toward the rear of your vehicle. With surge brake systems, the actuator is triggered as your trailer moves forward while the tow vehicle slows. The actuator telescopes, applying force to its master cylinder, which in turn supplies the necessary hydraulic pressure to engage the trailer's brakes.

Because this model does not include a reverse lockout, it is recommended that you equip your trailer with free-backing brakes so that you can drive in reverse without triggering your trailer's brakes.

I’m very satisfied. I always check out etrailer for all my trailer needs and this time was no different. In under 2 hours by myself I changed out the old with the new ( pictures) and ready to bleed the brakes. I always let people know to contact etrailer with there needs. Thanks

The new Brake Actuator is working great and I haven’t had any issues at all. Thanks etrailer

I ordered this surge brake hitch without the back up solenoid. Due to supply chain problems it was going to take 3 months to ship. Upon receiving it far ahead of schedule it had the solenoid included at no extra charge meaning that someone at etrailer expedited my order and kept me happy at etrailers expense. How can you top that for service?

by:

It is the right part and I got it fast thank you

by:

Delivery was very fast. Quality seems very good. Installation was super easy since my Shorelander swing tongue trailer has this standard hole pattern. I love how it looks and the extra foot of distance I get between the boat and my tow vehicle (so less chance of needing to get my feet wet or crawl through the SUV).

by:

Finished drum to disc brake conversion on my 1993 year model Bass Cat trailer. Installation went smoothly and the UFP-A60 Actuator replaced the obsolete Atwood Actuator. Shortened the outer member a bit and added a 1" flat bar to the bottom for welding of 4" channel trailer frame.

We are a trailer repair company. We purchase the actuators for our customers. But we have had a lot of experience dealing with Dexter/UFP products. We try to only buy the best products available for our customers. That is why we buy Dexter/UFP products on a regular basis.

Pros.

Works great really noticed
the difference right away.

Ed W. with etrailer was great to work with helped determine which one to get.

It was a fairly simple install.

Con.

The reverse lockout was further away than my original, just a little, so my brake line was too short.

Auto parts places didn't have a flex that fit the thread. I was doing this on a Sunday so I had to drive across town to a trailer guy who was open for a flex line.

I would give it 4.7 stars if I could would of gave a 5 star had they included a short flex line with the kit.

It's about a 2 hour job with everything you need I spent an extra 2+hours getting a part.

All in all been using for a year and I am completely satisfied.

Updating my old surge brake coupler, I really like this Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator w Electric Lockout - Bolt On - Disc - 2" Ball - Zinc - 7.5K fits 3”x4”trailer tongue, it was easy to install, I did have to drill new holes, I just wish the manufacturer would have included the bolts and the information on how much to torque the bolts to, it’s about “2 drop from my old coupler. etrailer was super fast with shipping !

by:

Shipping was quick and it was packaged nicely. Exact fit for my 2013 single axel Karavan trailer.

by:

Exactly what I needed. Didn't require the outer housing, the insider mechanism slid in nicely as a replacement on my trailer. The etrailer videos for installation and bleeding were very helpful.

by:

Just what I wanted. I am building a custom trailer for my vintage boat. I have used these actuators in past projects. etrailer has great pricing and fast delivery every time.

by:

Fit was seemless to replace an old actuator with the impossible do get landed hitch latch. Changed brakes from drum to disk, and all new lines. What a difference in smoothness (and effectiveness) while braking. Electric lockout in reverse is also a nice feature. Just plusses all around. If you are replacing the same components be very patient with the bleeding process...it will take some time and a lot of pumping.

by:

Have not use the Actuator yet. However it came in a oversize box. No packing material to protect it. It was damaged when I opened the box. Scratches and damage cable

by:

The product is as expected and an exact replacement for my trailer. The exceptional part of the transaction was the speed my order was filled and shipped.

by:

Product arrived quickly (as always, thanks etrailer!) bolted direct to my shorelandr trailer without issue. it did not come with the reservoir cover or the manual lockout which was expected given it was a full tongue assembly. Also did not come with the manual (and specifically the spare breakaway clips in case the emergency cord is pulled). Save old lockout and reservoir cap if replacing a busted tongue!

by:

I have not got it on the trailer yet can't wait to use it it looks awesome hope it works as good as it looks

by:

Fantastic product selection excellent customer service

by:

Ordered brake actuator from Etrailer after several attempts from EZTrailee with no response. Wished I had checked out Etrailer sooner. Received notification at each billing, shipping.
It was easy to find the parts got fast shipping with working brakes now, can enjoy the boat again. This is the third trailer you helped me repair with correct parts, fast shipping
Many thanks guys

by:

Amazing price for my favorite hitch, tongue actuator system made. I own 6 trailers and have had another dozen in the past. There is no better looking or functioning system .

by:

I slipped this into my boat mate trailer for 2001 moomba. Took about an hour to hook up and bleed the system with a buddy. Works great! If you can use simple tools and are mechanically savvy this is a no brainer.

by:

Perfect fit. I had to notch one corner where my wiring came out of the box tubing. Really nice compared to the original that was on there

by:

Great replacement for a damaged actuator. A plan came together and it don't get much better.

by:

This was an easy replacement and has worked very well

by:

works perfectly

by:

I was very pleased with the help from the staff when I ordered it. I was thrilled that I received it in 3 days! Thanks!

  • Replacement For A-60 Surge Brake Actuator
Yes, you do need a bolt-on to replace your A-60 actuator, and the swing-away won't be a factor since you are not using it. So long as you have a 3" x 5" straight tongue and drum brakes the correct replacement for an A-60 actuator is the following: - Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator - Bolt On - Drum - 2" Ball - Zinc - 7,500 lbs # DX83FR

  • Can Electric Locket Be Added To Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator
Yes, you can add the # T4748800 to the Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator # DX83FR so you have an electric lockout. This is also compatible with the Dexter Hydraulic Brake Line # T0980100 which is perfect for your folding tongue.

  • Replacement Coupler for UFP Model GDC-70 for Drum Brakes
For a replacement I recommend the Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator # DX83FR. Your UFP GDC-70 is the same as the A-70, and this actuator is a direct replacement for the UFP A-60 and A-70. This fits 3" x 5" straight tongues and is designed for drum brakes. If you want a manual lockout you will also need the # DX94FR. If you would like an electric lockout you would need to add the # # T4748800.

  • Video for Bleeding Surge Trailer Brakes
We have one brake bleeding how-to video that I attached to this page that shows the process is done on surge brake trailers like the Dexter part # DX83FR that you mentioned. We do not have a video for this specific coupler though.

  • Does the Dexter DX27FR Use the Same Inner Member as the DX83FR
Yes, you can use the inner member from the # DX27FR and the # DX83FR interchangeably. Although they are designed to fit different trailer tongue sizes, they both use the same inner member # DX97FR. You could either purchase the inner member separately or if you want an extra/new housing the # DX27FR fits a 3" x 4" straight tongue and the # DX83FR fits a 3" x 5" straight tongue.

  • Replacement Brake Actuator for 2003 Zieman Trailer
In order to choose a brake actuator you need to first choose one that meets or exceeds the GTWR of the trailer. You also want to choose one that matches the hitch ball you are using, the type of brakes (disc or drum), and fits your trailer tongue. Another thing to consider is whether or not you want a manual or electric lockout, or no lockout at all. For example, the Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator - Bolt On # DX27FR you were looking at has a capacity of 7,500 lbs and is designed for...

  • What is the Difference Between the Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuators # DX83FR and # DX27FR?
This is an excellent question Brad. The Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator # DX83FR is designed to bolt to a 3" wide by 5" tall frame while the Actuator # DX27FR is designed to bolt to a 3" wide by 4" tall frame. This is the only difference between the actuators as they are both for a 2" ball and have a 7,500lb capacity for drum brake trailers.

  • Can Trailer Brake Coupler Actuator Be Used for Flat Towing a Jeep Wrangler
In order to safely apply brakes while flat towing your Jeep Wrangler you need a supplemental brake system. The Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator # DX83FR is designed to be installed on a trailer and apply hydraulic trailer brakes so it won't be compatible with a Blue Ox tow bar OR the bakes on your Wrangler. • Replacement Trailer Surge Brake Coupler For a ShoreLandr Trailer With Tie Down Engineering LP7000
It sounds like either the Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator for Disc # DX56FR or Drum # DX83FR brakes is going to be the best replacement option. According to the information I could find from ShoreLandr your trailer does use a 3" wide by 5" tall tongue. As I was unable to find exact information for a Tie Down Engineering LP7000 surge actuator I did see they offered an 70 LP which was rated for 7,000lbs. This Dexter has a similar design to the 70 LP from the limited documents I could find...

  • Comparing The Dexter T43397007K And T63FR Brake Actuators
We can certainly help you replace your Atwood Actuator. The Dexter # T43397007K and # T63FR actuators you mentioned are going to be similar in that they are made for trailers with drum brakes and they both will bolt on to a 3" tongue. As far as the height/ dimension of the actuator itself, it really just comes down to design and the placement of the internal components. The # T43397007K has the master cylinder connections above the tongue, whereas the # T63FR is more for trailers where...

Based on the information I was able to find on your Demco DA603 it appears the Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator for Drum # DX83FR or Disc # DX56FR brakes is going to be the best replacement. The disc brake actuator includes an electric lockout while the drum brake actuator would require a Lockout Key # DX94FR if you do not have free backing brakes. Both these have a 2" coupler and are rated for 7,500lbs to fit on a 3" by 5" trailer tongue.
