Expert Reply:
When using the Dexter Zinc-Plated Brake Actuator w/ Electric Lockout - Disc # T47457207K, the voltage for the solenoid is coming from the reverse light circuit. It will supply voltage only when the reverse light is on when using a 5-way connector. If you need a 5-way you can use the Tow Ready 4 Pole to 5 Pole Trailer Wiring Adapter # 20036, and I have added a link to a video install for you to check out as well.
I have added a link to a help article on trailer wiring you may find useful, and I also strongly recommend using Dielectric Grease for Electrical Connectors # 11755 to help prevent any type of corrosion in your connector; using it will increase its durability and extend its lifespan.
