Recommended Trailer Coupler With Breakaway Kit Replacement
Question:
I have an EZ Loader trailer for my 19 foot fishing boat manufactured March 2005. The coupler is a Fulton A50. I need to replace the sacrificial clip for the brake away cable, but can find no online information or manuals for this product. Any help much appreciated.

I spoke with my contact at Fulton and they told me that the A50 coupler was for a surge brake 5,000 lb system and is no longer available. They said the parts for that are no longer available either.
The coupler you will need depends on the kind of brakes you have on your trailer, either disc or drum. If you install a disc brake coupler on a trailer with drum brakes, you run the risk of having the brakes locking up.
If you have disc brakes I recommend part # 099-175-20. This coupler includes the breakaway kit, is a bolt-on installation, and will adjust for different ball sizes. I have attached a product review video you can check out.
For drum brakes I recommend part # 099-175-00. I have attached a video for this coupler also.
