What a lockout on a hydraulic brake coupler does is prevent the brakes from applying when you back the trailer. An electric lock out is tied into the reverse lamp circuit on the vehicle so that when the vehicle is shifted into reverse the solenoid in the coupler is activated which prevents the trailer brakes from applying. If your boat trailer had free-backing brakes, you won't need a lockout because after being pushed a foot or so the brake assemblies disengage.

For a 7500 lb hydraulic coupler with a lockout, the Dexter # 099-175-20 would work great. If you don't need the lockout, use # 099-175-00.
